My Idea For A Form Of Government Eleutherionism

Recommended Posts

I call it Eleutherionism, which is based off of the Ancient Greek word for freedom. It's fairly similar to socialism, but also vastly different. Here is the basic idea for it:

Eleutherionism is an interesting concept. It's based off of socialism, but it gives the citizen much more freedom.

In socialism, everyone is paid the same thing for working different jobs. I want to expand on that concept. Different jobs will have different wages, increasing based on popularity, difficulty, and talent required. In order to get a certain job, you must study (after you graduate high school) for as long as you want and then you will take an aptitude test (created by people who currently/previously worked the job you want to have). You will need to get a certain score on that test in order to successfully get the job. If you don't pass, you'll either have to study again and re-take the test (you can re-take the test for a single job five times per year) or study in a different field. The government will provide housing and food for all of it's citizens. You will use the money you have to buy clothing and non-essentials (video games, computers, etc.). This allows all citizens to live a well-to-do lifestyle and enjoy themselves.

The government will work using the checks & balances system. A congress of 500 elected officials (directly elected by the citizens, who must be 18 to vote) will share equal power with the elected Chancellor (I like that term best for leader ). They will share equal power in regards to military decisions, and any other government decisions.

Abortions are legal. Drugs are outlawed, and sea ports and borders are HEAVILY monitored. Smoking is illegal. Marijuana, however, is legal. Alcohol is legal to sell to to anybody over 18. You can drink it at age 16, however.

Driving under the influence causes license revocation for a year, and you are not allowed to be within ten miles of any establishment selling alcohol or Marijuana during that year.

This form of government allows for the government to ally itself with any other country. Congress and the chancellor will vote (the chancellor counts as ten votes) to decide if a country is able to be allied with.

The government will not intervene in the matters of other countries, and will not enforce it's will (unless it feels threatened and they hold a vote for it) upon other nations.

You can leave the country at any time, but you will be sent to prison if you violate your Visa in another country while still a citizen.

If you are in another country, you will obey the laws of that country, and not the Eleutherionist country you belong to.

Marijuana doesn't carry anywhere NEAR the amount of health risks that smoking does.

Marijuana has not been documented to cause any deaths directly (i.e. driving under the influence doesn't count).

If you're caught drunk driving you're not allowed to go within 10 miles of any alcohol store, what doesn't make sense about it?

If you drink and drive, I don't want you near alcohol.

Capital punishment will be used IF and ONLY IF a murder has been committed.

There will be an income tax (quite large, considering you only have to pay for your clothing).

No other taxes will be necessary.

I call it Eleutherionism, which is based off of the Ancient Greek word for freedom. It's fairly similar to socialism, but also vastly different. Here is the basic idea for it:

is this made up by you or is it publically available? if publically available, point me to a website. i want to refrain from posting on this subject until i get more facts here....

if i was your age, i would be all for the drug and alcohol use. i'm not anymore and you and the others who think like you are the ones who drive my insurance premiums sky high.

do you know the statistics of teenagers and the laws they break while behind the wheel of a car? and you want to lower the drinking age to 16?

you're a pot smoker aren't you. its funny that i hear the same arguement from the same people. it's never their fault and they can never admit their own guilt. all they want to do is get high and float through life while killing their own brain cells. get back with me on this when you reach 19 and have the opportunity to take a college health course. as far as pot not the cause of any deaths, BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!! in fact, there are several documented facts that people have died just by inhaling ONCE and they found no other drugs in their system.i'll bet you 100 Xisto credits on that one and show you proof beyond doubt. also, you said cigarettes are a killer and should be outlawed? i don't know one instance where a a death was documents when someone died from inhaling the tobacco. yes, it's a long term killer. pot however is a long AND short term killer(short term killer in two ways). alcohol is the leading cause of illness and death. it is both a long term and a short term killer. it not only causes people to become depressed and kill themselves, it causes them to get behind a wheel and kill others. it also destroys vital organs and inoperable desieses not to mention continuously dehydrates you and causes your immune system to drop.

get a clue before you start promoting b.s.

now as far as the other things, yea, i want more information. some of it sounds interesting like job pay.

i never liked our wage system in the u.s. so that part interests me but i disagree with the suggestion. it should be based more on how much time it took to get qualified to do the job. not based on anything else and the government should set that standard. reason being, you get paid for the time you put in. obviously there are 24 hours in a day. if the average work day is 8 hours and everyone worked 8 hours for example, everyone is putting in the same amount of work time wise. wether you're a teacher or a bread maker pay should be the same based on time since everyone is working just as hard in the same amount of time. BUT if someone is required to put more time in to train before they get paid, they should be compensated for the with extra pay when they finally get out of school or training

this type of system would not only be fair to the lower class, it will create a competitive market for the same services and the people who succeed will be the ones doing it better. not the ones who don't do it better who are usually forced to increase their prices to make up for the loss of business. since the system i stated will cause a more competitive market, prices will drop and the value of the dollar will increase(in the long run)

there is a downside though. money will leave that countries marketplace. also, it will turn investors away and in the short run, a change of government so drastic could just cause the economy to collapse.....especialy when you have drunk and high 16 year old stock brokers trying to sell stock for a company that sells swamp land in florida because they thought it would be funny to do.

again, you are posting about a subject you know nothing about. i've been following you around tonight. i should know.

Drugs are outlawed, and sea ports and borders are HEAVILY monitored. Smoking is illegal. Marijuana, however, is legal.

So what are you gonna do, chew on your pot leaves?

Marijuana doesn't carry anywhere NEAR the amount of health risks that smoking does.

Yes it does, just take psychology in college. Causes more critical damage than smoking ever will, but hey, by that point, you couldn't care less.

Marijuana has not been documented to cause any deaths directly (i.e. driving under the influence doesn't count).

That's a weak argument. Sort of like saying, "No, no, no, I didn't kill him directly your honor. The gun did it."

No it's not a weak argument. If someone is dumb enough to drive after doing anything that may (or may not) impair their judgment, or operate heavy machinery, or wield a weapon, then I wouldn't blame that on the substance.

Furthermore, no I am not a pot smoker.

I've never smoked anything nor drunk any alcohol in my life. Characterizing me as such because of the opinions I hold is absurd.

It's an concept that I came up with the other day. Obviously it's got kinks and it's very rough around the edges, but give me a break, it's still a concept. It has major work to be done, and that'll be accomplished whenever I have time. I'd like to write up a paper on it at some point, but I'd definitely like all of your input to go into this concept. I'd like to know what you all think will work and what won't.

Furthermore, recent studies have shown that Marijuana doesn't carry anywhere near the negative effects that tobacco does. Obviously any sort of smoke will cause lung damage, but that is the users choice. Feel free to correct me (with proof of course) if I am incorrect in my statements.

I was actually thinking about outlawing alcohol, but I'm not sure how free a country would be if it were outlawed, and the maturity difference between 16-18 seems to be negligible in most of the people I've ever known.

And anwiii, I've been reading your posts as well, you seem to be the one talking about things you have no knowledge about.

Like I said, this is just a concept. I'd love for all of you to make changes and corrections and to post them in this thread. Personal attacks on my level of knowledge are useless and annoying. Instead of saying "Oh, you're dumb, you know nothing!" try saying "Recent studies have shown that marijuana usage can cause severe damage to the liver, etc." instead of insulting my intelligence. It's much easier to take you seriously when you back up your points, and you present them like a rational human being.

You sound like a Marxist to me. Communism didn't work. Face it.

Not a Marxist at all. You shouldn't assume that at all. I never once said it.

I agree, Communism didn't, doesn't, and can't work, this however, is only loosely based off of socialism.

I wouldn't put it into the fire just yet, wait until I get a more refined, smooth idea. In fact, bounce ideas off of me that you think would be good for this system. I'm completely open to new ideas, and I'd love to hear what you have to say.

What changes would you suggest? I understand there are many kinks. A lot of it needs to be switched around.Keep in mind, I though this up in a very short period of time, for the specific reason of having others input very early on.

Ok, i've sort of thought about this when I was working home. If I were you I would make the laws a but harsher and ban marijuana.I wouldn't give people free food, because how would it be delivered? but the idea of giving everyone a house would be a very good idea. In my ideal government, everybody would have a house to live in, be eligible for government welfare support.there would be no, NO! smoking of any kind. The fine for smoking would be EURO$10,000. As I said the punishments for disobeying the law would be a lot harsher.Drugs (the bad kinds) would be totally banned, the punishment for drug use is EURO$50,000 and a 2 year prison sentence. There would be state housing for people who can't afford to buy houses.Tax will depend on their salary $0-$10,000=5%, $10,001-$30,000=8%, $30,001-$50,000=10%, $50,001-$80,000=13%, $80,001-$120,000=16%, $120,001-$180,000=20%, and $180,001+=28%but this is just a bit, there would be extra tax for people who have salaries of over $500,000 and $1,000,000 etc.The tax would also decrease according to how many children they have. Downloading pirated copies of software will be legal (Only if used for personal purposes) because finding people who download it is... impossible. There would be capital punishment although there would be a extremely fair trial and would only be executed if there is proof that the crime has been committed. The government would be different to other countries, there would be a 'Supreme Chancellor' with a 'Senate' representing different parts of the country. The senate together have more official power than the Supreme Chancellor. There would be special teams of scientists that would research different things (Nuclear fusion, rail guns etc). Well there you have it... I was thinking this mostly 'On the spot' and might refine it someday... but I doubt I will run for president or in this case 'Supreme Chancellor'

In my form of government there would be no parliament per se, so for each issue that arises, there is a committee that organizes the sending of voting cards for a referendum, and each day the citizens simply read the card and tick "YES" or "NO" and a committee van would drive down the streets, collect the votes and they are pumped into a big machine that determines all the results etc. At the end of the news that night, the results are shown to the citizens. There is a big cavern 200km below the surface where criminals are sent. They are stripped naked, have no cells, there just in one dirty cavern. Its a case of dog vs dog, one man for himself, and theres a big open fire where you can cook the meat of people you kill in a fight, like cannibals  the perfect punishment. There is no electricity either, so burning torches keep it lit up. When a storm comes, theres nothing to stop water going down, so they either learn to swim, drink it, or drown. And because its a hole they fall down, with a big net at the bottom to catch their fall, they have no chance to ever return ;) their families are then left to live in peace, with the knowledge their horror son is living a long and horrible death. After 20 years, each hole is sealed up as the criminals are presumed dead.Citizens must sacrifice 100% of their pay to the committee, which in turn divides it up 50/50 to everyone. You own nothing, you are worth nothing, once you visit the country you can never return back, as the airports and seaports are all arrivals only and there are no departures. Attempting to escape means you get put in "the hole" (see above). If you miraculously escape the hole, you get dropped straight down again. All your houses and items are owned by the committee and the public, so everything you own is also owned by everyone else.Haha the most evil country on earth :DBTW, everything is illegal, and breaking the law, the citizens push you into the hole!!! hehe

This allows all citizens to live a well-to-do lifestyle and enjoy themselves.

Now, tell me son, WHY should the government provide expensive things for all its citizens? That's not fair to the lowerclass tax payers, ya know. I don't think that the governmant should have to provide anythings. I say the citizens get of their lazy arses and get a paying job and stop mooching off my paycheck!

The government will work using the checks & balances system. A congress of 500 elected officials (directly elected by the citizens, who must be 18 to vote) will share equal power with the elected Chancellor (I like that term best for leader :D). They will share equal power in regards to military decisions, and any other government decisions.

I don't think that is anywhere close to socialism, son. Socialism is where the goveernment makes ALL of the rules, and you have little say in it or no say. And I am not quite so sure that the avarage joe needs to be making military decisions. . . but that's just me.

Abortions are legal. Drugs are outlawed, and sea ports and borders are HEAVILY monitored. Smoking is illegal. Marijuana, however, is legal. Alcohol is legal to sell to to anybody over 18. You can drink it at age 16, however.

Abortions are legal? Baby killing is LEGAL?!?! The only time an abortion should be made legal is when bot the baby AND the mother are threatened (i.e. a fallopian pregnancy)

Drugs are outlawed? So you mean my adville that I buy to help relive my blown out elbow is illegal? I think that youe should bee more specific, not all drugs are bad, just the illegal ones.

Smoking is illegal but marijuana isn't? What pothead came up with that one? I don't know if you know this or not, but smoking ciggerattes isn't nearly as dangerous as Mary Jane is. That's just flat out stupid right there.

Booz can be sold to anyone who is over the age of 18... hmmmm... that's a bad idea because you are STILL growing at that point in time, and it can stunt your growth plus alcohol does not need to be in the hands of someone that young. And the 16 year-olds drinking??!?!?!?! That's a badddd idea, 16 year olds don't always make the best choices, ya know.

Driving under the influence causes license revocation for a year, and you are not allowed to be within ten miles of any establishment selling alcohol or Marijuana during that year.

I don't think that's very fair... A whole year? And what happens if your job is within 8 miles of a liquor store? So if I drink drive that I am going to have to quit my job just because it's down the road from a booz store? Rethink that one. . .

This form of government allows for the government to ally itself with any other country. Congress and the chancellor will vote (the chancellor counts as ten votes) to decide if a country is able to be allied with.

I thought the chancellor was equal to everyone else. . . And what happens if you allie yourself with a volitile contry that turns on you?

The government will not intervene in the matters of other countries, and will not enforce it's will (unless it feels threatened and they hold a vote for it) upon other nations.

Will it not now? Sometimes, a country NEEDS to be intervined woth, take Iraq for example. If it wasn't for good ol Uncle Sam, they would still be under the rule of Sadam Heuseign, and who's not to say we wouldn't have had the twin towers attacked again?

You can leave the country at any time, but you will be sent to prison if you violate your Visa in another country while still a citizen.

You can leave the country at anytime. . . I WANT OUT ;) And what if the laws are different in the other country, and in order to follow the laws, you have to violate your visa? Looks like a lose-lose situation to me.

1. I'm not your child, don't call me son.

2. I said it's based off of socialism, not that it IS socialism. As in "I was kinda thinking of socialism at the time that I came up with this idea"

3. You don't seem to understand how the job system, the tax system, or the government provisions system works in this concept.

4. You have no idea what you're talking about in terms of Marijuana. No, I'm not a pothead.

5. "Illegal drugs" are illegal doesn't make sense. You think I'm going to adopt the corrupt, US war on drugs system?

6. Humans in general don't always make the best choices. The difference between 16 to 18 year olds is negligible. And it's the persons choice, not yours, if they want to take the chance at stunting their growth.

7. Then you don't ally yourself with that country any longer.

8. To suggest that our invasion of Iraq was in any way a good idea is literally the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Iraq didn't attack the twin towers, Osama Bin Laden != Saddam Hussein.

9. I'd like you to come up with a situation where following the laws in another country would break laws in America.

Just wondering, are you a Republican?

I'd like to see the proof behind your statements before I go on to correct it first, since you bring it up so much.

Also, now thinking about it, why is socialism a type government at all? It's based on Marxism, the ideas of Karl Marx, which really were that no government is the system, the people rule themselves.

Next:

Will it not now? Sometimes, a country NEEDS to be intervined woth, take Iraq for example. If it wasn't for good ol Uncle Sam, they would still be under the rule of Sadam Heuseign, and who's not to say we wouldn't have had the twin towers attacked again?

Imagine a world where Saudis rammed jets into towers where Afghanis were blamed... I highly recommend a class called AP U.S. History, interesting stuff you learn. For example, America has a bit of history when it comes in and "liberates" other countries, for example, Cuba, or the Philippines, and just happens to stay there for a couple of decades. Americans seem to not know their own history and are puzzled about why foreign countries are not excited about America "helping." Many teachers don't like to go over the history of American imperialism, so if that's the case with yours, then I recommend you read a book called Lies My History Teacher Taught Me, really good stuff in there (not sure if name is perfect, but close enough).
