Grindhouse

Recommended Posts

Okay so it's the spectacular movie-going event that everyone's going to be talking about. I'm sure it's really good, and I admit that QT has got an immense talent for writing and directing. He is a film-making fool. i mean that in a good way. he brings such style and originality to the table. No one can match him in raw talent and passion.

In other words, i am surely a huge fan of QT. But i have a huge problem with Grindhouse.

The first problem is that it is way too violent for any decent human being. It's just kill, after murder, after suicide, after drug overdose, after mutilation, after sexy girls dying sexy deaths while being sexually exploited.... i must admit, i haven't seen it so i don't know what's in it--i just know that it's God damn violent!

The second problem with it, is that Robert Rodrigez directed half of it. This means that if you subtract the brilliance and ingenuity of QT's style, you have nothing but a corny, unqualified, sub-par slasher film, just like all the others. I obviously can't stand slasher films. They serve no purpose other than to try to 'scare' you, but they don't even do that.

The third problem is... well, the paradox. I really really want to see this movie. At least the one half of it. *(QT's half!) I've seen a clip and it's good...it's sooo good. What to do? It's being called a masterpeice. QT's part is supberb i'm sure. But ...it's ...so ...violent! i detest violence in films, but i love a great movie, and i love great art. Why is the greatest artist of teh century so addicted to uncivilised violence and crime!?

Maybe there is a point to QT's madness, and that is to put the mirror up to mankind. We are capable of this kind of violence, and we could do it, sure, or we could just watch it safely on the movie screen where it can't hurt us, and then we can silently promise ourselves never to engage in such illicet activities. Sounds ideal, right? The problem is that it gets into our subconscious minds, to the point that we may react in a violent way when normally we'd kiss and make up. There is evidence that QT is becoming more violent in real life: He got sued for $5 million for bashing a guy's head against the wall. Nice. Maybe he's becoming influenced by his own movies.

What do you expect most of Quentin Tarrintino and Robert Rodrigez movies are loaded with violence, the trailers to grindhouse have shown that this to be two very viloent movies. However, I disagree wtih your view about Robert Rodrigez directing skills. I would assume you seen the Mariachi Trilogy? I would say those are the three best movies Robert Rodrigez has done since he first started out with Dust till Dawn (I think). You can't escape the fact these two directors movies are completely based on violence, Kill Bill, Reservior Dogs, Dusk Til dawn Trilogy to name a few. What you said is true that this is a pardox for you but if you can't get past the violence then maybe you shouldn't go see the movie then.

I don't think that you can assert or assume much of anything about the movie unless you've seen it for yourself. When the clips are assembled to make trailers/previews/commercials, we only see a couple of the juiciest parts of the whole film. The people who put together that stuff are trying to entice us. If they have to misrepresent a film, then they'll often do just that. Maybe "Grindhouse" isn't the most violent movie that QT's ever had a hand in making. Maybe the clips show only the worst scenes so that they'll attract a large crowd of moviegoers who want to see that sort of thing. I don't know. I haven't seen the movie, so I'm not qualified to say one way or another.Anyway...that's my mini-tangent for the day, so on to something else now, I guess

Not that violent, huh? Well,

I think the film is excessively violent based on the reviews that I've read.

Based on this article, it sounds like ...quite the experience...

These parts are going to have to be cut (down to an R rating), and even though they have nothing to do with "Death Proof", they are still in the movie, and I DEFINATLEY DON'T want to see any of this...

 This makes me angry...

"Grindhouse" Should Be Renamed "Pornhouse"

“Grindhouse” is actually two short movies - one directed by Tarantino, the other by Rodriguez - with an intermission between them. During the break, a series of fake trailers will be shown for such fictitious titles as “Werewolf Women of the SS,” directed by Rob Zombie.

"In one scene, a cute, topless girl is roughly tied down on a table by evil female Nazi experimenters who begin draining her blood and, as she screams in agony, they brand her like livestock with a coal-hot steel swastika,” our source said. “And every girl in the Nazi concentration camp is topless."

Another trailer, directed by Eli Roth, of "Hostel" fame, is called “Thanksgiving,” in which a town's celebration of Turkey Day is interrupted by a mad slasher.

"There's a part where Jordan Ladd [daughter of Cheryl Ladd of 'Charlie's Angels'] is in a car with her boyfriend and giving him [oral sex] when she lovingly reaches to stroke his hair and discovers his neck is just a bloody stump - some maniac had just cut off his head while she was in the act."

Later, a frisky cheerleader climbs onto a trampoline and begins stripping naked as she jumps up and down until she does a split and her skirt blows up without panties underneath. "You get the full 'Britney Spears-getting-out-of-the-limo view,' " our source says. Another jolting scene shows a grossly obese man chewing on a baby.

How much of these moviegoers will end up seeing is anybody's guess. "Some cuts definitely will have to be made. There's no question," conceded one studio insider. A Dimension rep declined comment.

P.S. --Just read his interview in this month's issue of GQ magazine, and he talks about the violent aspects of his films. It's a v enlightening interview, you gotta read it. V funny, too..

Like I mentioned in my review after seeing this movie I think it was more of a comedy then action movie with blood and guts. I considered the blood and the violence as a bonus to the movie because most of the time when I was watching the movie me and hte rest of hte people that watch it were laughing our heads off. To bad though it's not making as much money as some of of their older movies, but most likely it will be a big hit when the DVD comes out in about 5-6 months. Of course with all the movies that are coming out within the 3 months of summer most people are saving their cash for those.

Grindhouse is a great movie. I am going to tell you right now, the QT portion of the movie is not as good as the Rodrigez portion. And to the guy who said it was over violent, why don't you watch the movies that it is paying homage to before you make such a blanket statement about it. That is the point it is supposed to be over the top violent, it is supposed to be aweful acting, it is in the vain of old campy, ultra violent, sexplotation flicks of past. It is actually pretty mild compared to most movies that is is supposed to be paying tribute to.I don't understand how people can make judgements about movies before they even see them.

Haha, you don't like violence? But it's so fun to see on the screen! I won't deny the fact that there is lots of violence in this movie - that's made clear by the previews, and I can't say the violence is spaced out, its more like wham! bam! woopow! But that's the fun part, you will not yawn during this movie! Not only is the violence fun but it is comedic at the same time... what else can you ask for? Scary movies now-a-days aren't scary at all and are laughable - even when they are trying to be serious. But this movie seems to know exactly what it is, that it will have stupid funny parts but it also doesn't take it over the top to where it's retarded and pisses you off (Jackass - for example, both of those movies sucked too hard). The zombie part (the first film) is gory as hell but what do you expect - it's a zombie movie. And the car chase film has little parts where it is gory but I'd say it is a little more violent because it seems possible in real life - but you'll sure get a kick out of it. My girl and I left with huge smiles on our faces after this movie - it was a blast.
