adriantc 0 Report post Posted January 31, 2005 I think the best thing that ever happend to the computer industry is the open source concept. Many say that they do programming for a living (like I am planning to do in the fuure) and they have to sell their programs to earn money.Well, we all see what happened to poor Bill after creating DOS. He got 40 billion $. I now ask: If he already has 40 billion $ (you can buy a country with that amount of money or almost put a stop to world hunger) why doesn't he give Windows for free, like his gift to mankind. There is the reverse side of the coin. The open source concept is defined by Linux. A world community of people have created one of the best (if not the best) OS ever. They don't sell it, but they still receive money for advertising. They are not working in the same room (as the guys from microsoft) but in every corner of the world and it seems to me they do a great job: stable systems, few bugs (if i where them i would improve the term user-friendly because we all know how difficult is to install a program on Linux). My point is: You don't have to sell a program in order to get money. Open source is the best example. LONG LIVE OPEN SOURCE.
