Not Starting All Services At Bootup

Recommended Posts

go to start, click run, type in "msconfig" go to the services tab up at the top and uncheck any of the following programs you would not like to start at the startup screen. Then click apply and you can continue without restarting or you can restart (recomended) and this will speed your computer up.

Be careful which services you disable tho, some services may be needed for Windows to be ran properly. Virus scanning, registry cleaning, defragmenting, and spyware scanning are also effective ways of increasing your computers speed.

The worry I have with doing this is that I do not know which are the essential services, as a result I may not be starting the services which are necessary for windows to run properly. It would be helpful if someone actually posted the list of services which windows requires to run properly.

There are many sites that have the information you are looking for, they are:

http://ss64.com/nt/syntax-services.html
http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

A good list of "fake" services can be found here:

http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

You can access the service list by going to Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services.

Good Luck!
