It is 1.8GHz with 256KB cache and is a socket 754. Basically equivalent to Intel's Celeron line of processors. It's a low cost processor based on the AMD XP.If you want a faster AMD processor, then I think you should be looking at an Athlon64. It has 64-bit extensions and is a high end processor. Comes as socket 754 and socket 939. Speeds from 1800MHz to 2400MHz and either 512KB cache or 1MB.Athlon64 FX is available in speeds up 2800MHz.

The thing is - Intel's MHz's are very different from AMD ones. AMD has less MHz's but their processors work a lot faster than Intel's 3GHz+.

Can you explain how that works? In another thread, please.

Maybe as a tutorial? I would sure like to know the details ( well, some of the details)

An amd cpu like sempron 3100 runs at 1800 gh but this speed can not be compared with an intel's cpu.Amd's CPUs run much faster than thier clock speed that is recognised by the computer. When you want to compare two different cpus of intel and amd you should better compare them by using programs like Benchmark 5 e.t.c.For example an Amd CPU can be better than an INTEL's one in video proccesing but it can be worst in games to say the truth it the other way round.Furthermore an AMD's CPU has greater potentials of getting overclocked in order to achieve higher speeds.
