The History Of Wrrc World RockNRol competition

The History Of WRRC
In 1974, 4 countries (Italy, France, Germany and Switzerland) founded the European Rock'n'Roll Association - ERRA. Other countries, such as Austria, the Netherlands, Denmark and Sweden quickly joined.
When Canada became a member a few years later, the ERRA became the WRRA (World Rock'n'Roll Association). In parallel, there was also another international Rock'n'Roll group, the FMDJ, or Fédération Mondial de Dance de Jazz.
In 1984, the two associations - the FMDJ and the WRRA - combined to form today's World Rock'n'Roll Confederation, or WRRC. At the same time, the WRRA and FMDJ were dissolved.
Since 1992, the distinction between amateurs and professionals has generally ceased to exist.
In the spring of 1994, the IDSF (International Dance Sport Federation) joined the WRRC as an associate member. As a result of the provisional recognition of the IDSF given in April 1995 by the Executive Board of the Olympic Committee, recognition is also granted to the WRRC.
Rock'n'Roll has grown into a high-performance sport over the last 20 years. 31 nations now belong to the WRRC:

France, Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Belgium, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Canada, Italy, United Kingdom, Sweden, Finland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Hungary, Denmark, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Russia, Croatia, Latvia, Norway, Spain, San Marino, Ukraine, Australia, Greece.

Extraordinary members: Singapore and Bosnia Herzegovina.

We also have contacts with New Zealand, Argentina, Ireland, Turkey, USA, and Israel.
Every year, the WRRC awards international championships in Rock'n'Roll, Boogie Woogie and Lindy Hop, issues international guidelines, and trains and regularly examines the assessment judges.
The following championships are run every year: 6 world masters tournaments for couples, European and world championships for couples, formations and juniors, world cups for juniors and boogie woogie couples and the Lindy Hop world and European championships.
The international rankings contain over 200 couples. Depending on the size of the national associations, between 20 and 2,000 couples dance in these associations in all classes including juniors and formations.
In order to make the judges' rating systems and the competition system more transparent, the couples also dance in a knockout system against each other in the main rounds of the Master competitions.
Public interest in the national events has increased amazingly in recent years. Almost all the important international championships have been broadcast on television since 1990. A number of sponsors are also permanently associated with the WRRC and the sport of Rock'n'Roll.
Regulations on Advertising and Television, which were drawn up in 1989, help the WRRC to market its events, particularly in the interests of the couples dancing.
