funny thing though the oclor of the text was the hardest part yet i spent like 5 minutes going through colors for it

Just make a hue-saturation with the saturation all the way down for the grey box, then ctrl-click your text layer to select it, then delete that from the hue-saturation. It'll be the same color as your bg. Or at least it should be.

Or, you can just follow Brooks' tutorial on coloring. Either way works. I prefer the latter because it explains in specifically.

snlil when you do the text you have an option of doing a outline of the letters and when you cut them out that what the background will look like once your done.the text marque option.
