What Happening With Intel?

I don't know why Intel insist in the HT technology, while AMD put into the market a 64 bits processor.Well, i have an idea, possibly Intel have a 64bit processor but it not work very well, or they want to continue selling older technology....Tell me what do you think about this.............kservice

intel also has 64bit CPUs now, they are being sold.And pretty soon AMD will have something similar to HT, that is multicore CPUs that work as one which is pretty much what HT does.However you are right as to say Intel's 64bit doesn't work very well, in fact it is mostly stolen technology from AMD anyway.

Intel has its 64 bit platform for a long time. IA-64 platform, which was out in 2001 and mainly serves as a server and workstation CPU, is an example. It is just that Intel previously did not aim to migrate to 64 bit platforms for PC users. AMD starts the 64 bit line and become quite successful due to its lower cost and forces Intel to enter the market. Yes, Intel is a little bit slow in reaction. But their EM64T technology which is now built in their 6xx series CPUs, is an authentic 64-bit technology. Actually, I think Intel generally has higher clock speed, better FSB and higher L2 cache, theses are the things that really make a CPU faster and I wonder why AMD fails to keep abreast with Intel in this aspect and try to fool its customers by misleading benchmarks like 3000+ (I really hate this label). The duel core thing is also an issue (forget about hyperthreading, which only makes a 10% difference in CPU performance). AMD?s technology is good in this aspect, but it now try to target the high-end market, which I think is a mistake. Pentium D will get a bigger market share and AMD previous victory over 64-bit CPU will be over. Perhaps AMD is now falling into the same trap as IA-64.

Ok, But Intel every time that launched new technology this new features need special Software, like HT that need special software to give a 25% better performance than a Not HT P4, or when was launched SSE and SSE, Generally not all the software that all use, have support for this features. A real improvement is better hardware processor, more cache memory, the ability of process more bits per instruction, etc...And another thing, a processor is faster than other if at the same task, make more MIPS, because, you can get a higher clock processor that make the same number of MIPS than a slower clock processor. I am agree that all these names: (3000+ , HT, etc etc) are marketing , and the people that is not specialist in computers, think that is the best......kservice
