As indicated, you need a default access page to avoid that visitors see your entire directory structure.
There are a few names you can use, like; index.htm - index.html - default.htm - default.html - home.htm - home.html etc.
This can be your main page or it can be a access page to direct visitors to specific directories.
Here's a basic example.

<HTML><HEAD><TITLE>Index</TITLE><META HTTP-EQUIV="Content-Type" CONTENT="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1"></HEAD><BODY><BR><BR><BR><BR>      <A HREF="http://forums.xisto.com/ the forum</A><br>      <A HREF="http://forums.xisto.com/ the geeklog</A><br>      <A HREF="http://forums.xisto.com/ to the portal</A><br>    </BODY></HTML><html>
To try it, just copy and paste into notepad and save as index.html and upload to your public_html folder. Just edit it to fit your needs.
