  1. Dell has always been my favorite brand. I like their laptops because many of their product lines (Inspiron, studio, etc.) give you a choice of many designs/colors. The customer service is great in my opinion, although not everyone thinks this. They offer a lot of customizability and extra features available at purchase time (online), such as extra RAM, higher resolution display, choice of networking card, etc. I also like the fact that they let you choose what software comes preinstalled and pick accessories easily.I've also had a good experience with Lenovo, although their case designs are generally bland and ugly . They do, however, offer systems at lower prices with higher specs. I don't own one, but my relatives use them, and they seem to run quite smoothly. If I remember correctly, neither Dell nor Lenovo computers have very much unwanted software preinstalled.
  2. Hi, you can do all of this by editing grub.conf. First, backup your current grub.conf in case anything goes wrong. Then open it with a text editor. By default, grub.conf should look like this: default=0timeout=10splashimage=(hd0,0)/grub/splash.xpm.gzThen, there will be several sections similar to this (one for each menu option): title Ubuntu Linuxroot (hd0,0)kernel /boot/ubuntu/vmlinuz-2.6.31-14initrd /boot/ubuntu/initrd-2.6.31-14.imgplus one for memtest, WinXP, etc. Delete all of the sections with the title Ubuntu Linux except for the current one and its debug/recovery modes. To make Windows XP the default, change the line default=0to the number of the WinXP section. Just remember that numbering starts with 0, not 1. For example, if the Windows XP option is now the fifth one on the list, you would use default=4and it would boot up by default. Sorry if I forgot anything, and hope I helped!
  3. I own both, and I was wondering what everyone thought about them. What do you think?
  4. Hi everyone, I'm new at Xisto. I'll do my best to be a good member! My hobbies include game programming in C++, installing linux distributions (Arch is the best), having fun on forums. :)Interesting fact: 17 is my lucky number!Anyway, I came to Xisto after dealing with a few bad web hosts. I was reading about various services, none of which were really any good, when I came across Xisto, which seemed to have very positive reviews. I checked out the forums, they seemed quite friendly, and read the hosting procedure. The thing that attracted me is that the hosting space and bandwidth is paid for with credits, earned by posting. So hopefully I'll stick around and post often. ;)Wish me luck as I try to earn my web hosting!
