  1. Yes, of course. You can quit WoW and any games if you dare. I was used to be a WOW player in Taiwanese realm for three or four years, and I have two lv80 characters and tons of under-lv80 ones. As computer gaming bought a negetive impact to my interpersonal relationship and my studies, I decided to withdraw from WOW just one month ago. If you found you have lost something in your life, you may stop playing games (computer, gaming console) for weeks or months.

  2. I am virtually neither a AMD fan or a Intel fan and I would consider the cost/performance ratio of each desired hardware product before I buy them, including CPU. For example, I found an AMD Althon 3600+ suit my need, so I switched my platform to AMD one. One or two years later, I found the C/P ratio of an second-hand Intel E6750 is good enough, so I switched back my platform to Intel.

  3. Well to my limited knowledge about linux and steam there is no version of steam which can run on linux. Steam is the program which allows you to run Half Life 1 Half Life 2 and source games, and seeing Counter-Strike is a "mod" for Half Life 1 I don't think you will be able to run it on default linux, you could try the emulating with wine but they will cause you major drops in gaming performance most of the time.

I have found a tutorial about installing steam and counter strike under linux wine. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
You may have a look on it.

  5. Google can mail you a check or transfer through paypal or something. I heard that they're really evil and when you do click fraud or visit your own site often, they will wait until you reach $100, then they'll disable your account to get in the maximum clicks for themselves.

Ya, it is true. I ever heard one of my schoolmate had got his adsense account suspended when his income nearly reached $100 for the similar reason.

cadams, have you tried the solution described in https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/916251?

  7. If you wish, you can also patch your TCPIP.sys file with LvlLord's TCPIP.sys Event ID 4226 patch. This will open up the ability for XP to make more half-open outbound connections... which Service Pack 2 addressed by crippling this capability to reduce the propogation of the spreading of malware to other machines should it happen to that host machine. (The problem with that logic is that it cripples everything else that rely on the capability of sending outbound data.) Increase the value of uTorrent's net.max.halfopen attribute under the Advanced tab as necessary, but remember not to set it too high less you chance crippling your Internet again.

Some Chinese computer users wrote a similar patch called TCP-Z, which its Virtual Drive function can do the same thing of the Event ID 4226 patch without modifying tcpip.sys, and can be activated automatically since boot into windows.

  8. From personal experience, loading a web page on different will have different loading time. For me, I find that chrome loads the fastest, followed by IE and then Firefox. I am not sure if that is what you experience as well. Wondering in those plugins like firebug and etc will slow down the loading time.

A Hong Kong IT magazine called PC Market has done a performance test for IE8, Firefox 3.52, Chrome 2.0.172.43 and Opera 10. In browser initalization test, Chrome is the fastest, then IE8 follows. However, the results are very comparable.

  9. Free Download Manager. It's simply amazing. Completely free, it has youtube download options, a helpful community that warns you if any download you're attempting is malicious and very easy to use. It also has very powerful options like auto batch downloads and downloading specific file type from a site, site explorer and site leecher.
I have tried every downloader out there, and think FDM's the best.

Mine is same as you, Free Download Manager. I have accustomed to it.
But I like using uTorrent to download bittorrent stuff, because it is "small, simple but powerful" and can be used as a green software.

  10. Hello everyone, I'm from Brazil and I came here to get some good hosting for my clan website and some other projects, and for the good community that Xisto(and the users of course) offers, I'm a webdesigner and I know the basics of coding stuff and hardware, I came here to enchance my English too, my main language is Portuguese, so if you guys need anything translated to portuguese just ask me x), and you guys can help me with English by telling me if I'm making any mistakes or whatever(just if you want to :P ), well, this is the first time I'll try a "post for host" free webhosting.I live in Rio de Janeiro, near Cristo Redentor, one of the New Seven Wonders x)

    See you in the forums.

Nice to meet you, Hax. I am from Hong Kong and I also host the site of my World Of Warcraft guild. The hosting service offered by Xisto - Web Hosting is great, even better than some Hong Kong paid hosting service provider.

Your written English is quite understandable, don't worry too much.

  11. Hi I was wondering if we can host small vent or team speak servers on our hosting?
Iam looking for a way to have one cheaply for my guild.

    thanks

I afraid the shared hosting of Xisto - Web Hosting won't provide such services. It is a "traditional" webpage and email oriented service.

If you want a cheap or free speak server, you may have a look at http://www.freeventriloserver.com/ or http://www.freeteamspeakservers.com/, but I cannot guarantee their service quality.

If you want a RELIABLE speak server, purchase a paid service. I have googled one of that for you, https://www.ventriloservers.biz/, and it is cheaper than what my former WoW guild purchased.

  12. SourceSeriously, this is innovative. I can't wait for them to produce these...though you know the sellers are gonna jack the hell out of the price. In any case, I can only wonder what this will mean for desk top and laptop computers. I mean if they can fit a terabyte in a thumb drive with this technology, think of how much they can fit into a normal comp. Think of how much music that would hold....how many games you could fit.....the possibilities are almost literally endless.

The technology underneath of that solid state memory is the key of the article. Alike perpendicular recording technology, this recording technology would furthur boost the storage capacity of SSD in the future. Also, I think an 1TB thumb drive will be nothing special after 3 or 4 years.

  13. Well when you get forum that are pre installed i don't think you can upload plugins in them. And forums without plug ins are just bodies without life. Well so i believe there should a be a directory for forum installation where you can upload stuff.
And yes the website forum77 is not working my dear. So that it shows that the other website is a winner. It has been open since 4 years and has many forums in it. Well the other thing proved here is that free forums are not to be trusted at all. If you had a forum on that website hope you had back up or else i feel sorry and the good thing is that you have learnt never trust most free forums the hard way

Ya, I like using addons to enhance my website software, including forum, portal and personal space. And I doubt if forum hosting would limit the use of some PHP functions like CURL, sockets, therefore I personally like traditional web hosting.

  14. Hi i have just completed most of my site if anyone is interested. Hopefully over the next couple of months i'll get a few tuts up on it, but that will be gradual. Unfortunately i dont know enough about making javascript (ajax) SEO friendly, so navigation for instance is much more crudely constructed than i would have prefered.
Its my business site so its main function is to advertise my portfolio and get business. If anyone has any ideas on how it can be improved in this way, i'd be happy to take any constructive comments you have to offer. Also if anything is out of place (the positioning of elements goes pear shaped) i'd really like to know.

    http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

    Thanks.

The coloring scheme of your website is great - black, gray, red and white. The contrast of text and background is not too sharp to make my eyes uncomfortable. But I would like to recommend you to make the top margin of the content frame wider, at most 2em is okay.

  15. If you are using some web-based applications having backup feature, e.g. Discuz! (a BBS software), you may consider it first. Then you may consider phpMyAdmin, assume you are using both PHP and MySQL, as its backup function is greatly configurable, for example, selecting tables, compression method, and I have not encountered any problem regarding its outcome yet.

  16. The only disadvantage of using a live CD/DVD is the long boot-up/shut down times. But after that small inconvenience, I think there won't be any more problem, will there? Ubuntu needs just 256MB of RAM and it won't use all of that at a given time. These days the minimum amount of RAM that most people seem to be having is 1GB. So I think there won't be a big problem for using this procedure. IT has more pros than cons, in my opinion.

If there is any spare pen drive, we can also make that as a mobile linux gaming station, because many pen drive is faster than DVD drive.

  17. I believe Windows XP SP3 is the best gaming OS right now. As there are some minor bugs running win games under Linux and more driver-related problems in linux than that in windows, Windows Gaming under Linux is very possible but not as easy as and more bugs (actually OpenGL can not fully emluate Windows-specific DX APIs, but Wine have done it best) than under Windows. Otherwise running Windows games under Linux will be more stable than running Windows games under Windows XP/Vista, and I guess even Windows 7.If you do like 16bit games (i.e.legacy DOS/Win9x games like C&C), Windows 98 SE is the best gaming OS for those, while there is no 16bit app support since Windows Vista. However, the OS design of Windows 9x series is much worse than Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7, be prepared for a easily-collapsed OS.So why not Windows Vista/7? As there is a big change of display and sound driver mechanism between XP and Vista/7, there raises some compatibility problems, e.g. some games need apps like Creative Alchemy to make EAX work properly under Windows Vista/7.
