1. Hello Everyone,

I am setting up a wireless network for my house, im finally getting rid of the dial-up (cost justified it). My cable line will be installed soon, and I am going to wireless network it so my two desktop PCs can share the Internet access. I've heard the mysterious security issues, but most of them seem pretty obvious that you have to be ignorant to overlook, like changing the admin password on your router, etc.

Anyway, what I am getting at here is a question: do you have any tips for securing a wireless network?

    Thanks!

    149636

If you are planning for wireless network security must be secured... Part of that security is by changing all the default settings of each hardware like your router. Don't ever use the default setting of each device, if you do so, then your security is not secured to tell you frankly.

Try to avoid using the DHCP setup or set your router as the DHCP Server because if you do so, many can have access to the net using your connection.

To make sure that everything are secured put some firewall and specify only the allowed IP to accessed your router. in short customized you internet connection settings.

I have encountered before when I visit my friends office and opened up my notebook and I found out that I have internet. See, that what I am talking about, to limit unexpected users.

Solution for this is really to customized everything, install the best firewall you know and don't used default setting for all hardware you are using...

  2. Okay theres a new virus going around MSN, I thought only my dumb friends were the ones accepting it, but turns out its across the nation. So I dont know if you've got it and deleted it, or was smart and didnt accept it. Well it goes by (as far as I know) three names. There like "Frog something something blender" "My new photo!" and like "Me and my lesbian friends!". Its a 17kb file, so if some1 in your list tries to send you one the those, DONT ACCEPT! It goes into your list(takes total control, so you cant do anything) and sends itself to EVERY1 in your friends list! And again, you might get this file, and you might not. But it is smart to always be aware.

It may also be something like really funny pic or something like that but we have been warned not to get onto MSN messenger.

Keep on the lookout for this virus and they said they would have it fixed in a few days.

    58807

I believe that microsoft is aware of this issues, is there any fixer available for this virus? I havn't read the article with regards to this virus. Is it only works in MSN program? tell me where I can find the links to that article you read. or if you aware of the activity of the said virus please let us know..

    tnx anyway for the info...

  3. Problem:

The cookie for admin is set by default to one month for most scripts. This is dangerous because anyone can enter a certain script (which I won't paste here), and IE will auto-correct it, sending information to that person, who can then change the UID and log in to the site as admin!!

    Solution:

If you're using IE to login to, clear your cookies, it's not too late!

Then, switch over to Mozilla. You know you want to...

    134675

Is this bug works only in IE? What if I switch my browser to mizilla, is it safe then? I found a lot of cookies in my computer and some of theme are detected as spyware. what does it means, coz sometimes I opened out cookie files and it contains lots of info which is usually originated from my PC. like my e-mail address visited website etc... I my own Idea cookies was created to increase the speed of your computer when browsing the internet.

For example if you browse yahoo some files required by yahoo are saved inside your computer so that the next time you login or browse the same site it will not look again for that file in the internet but instead load the file from your local computer. In this way it will help you to browse the net faster, the more cookies you have the more faster the browser is.

This is the purposed of having cookies inside your computer, it just so happened that potential user or let say a hackers use the cookies as entry point. that's the problem, that is why cookies or some cookies detected as spyware by some anti-spy program...

  4. Here are some advantages of having a computer in your bedroom.

    1) you can talk to your friends all the time without having to exit because no one else will be going on.

    2) you can stay up as alte as you want on the internet.

    3) no one can see what you're using the computer for (for example, if you say you're doing homework you can play games)

    4) no one is ever trying to kick you off so they can have a turn.

    5) you can have your own settings

    6) you can play music off your computer in your room

    154854

That was really nice setup, but how about if somebody wants to use your PC's you just let them in and stay in your room until they finished what they are doing? how about your privacy? unless somebody has their pc too. If thats the case well, I like the way you think... pc inside my room, but if somebody is using your computer just put it outside your room.

Anyway if somebody used your pc and you put it inside your room maybe they will think that you are selfish...

  5. Hello... You all like to download MP3's online right? Well, hmmm... i love to download them and burn them in a cd but there's some unanswered questions roaving in my mind.

Example, I have many duplicates of one song with different file names, well, I want to remove those duplicate ones... how?

And MP3 is compressed right? Is there a way to uncompress those compressed sound so that I will really do unlock the wonderful sound of the audio?

    154877

OK, I think that was alreadyt posted here maybe a weeks ago. there are programs that detect duplicate files not only mp3 any files, it looks for the format, filenames and the bytes of eachs files I just forgot the program name, I will search them for you and post it here once i got them. anyway try searching for and old topics here that same as yours. maybe it will help you.

  6. For enabling hyperthreading one goes in the BIOS....but of course your motherboard has to be able to handle HT!!!! (/me kicks shopkeeper of Pc-Clinic... darn non-computer people!). So I got a inferior CPU with HT support....and of course a inferior motherboard of 1994 without HT support...and they told me them both had HT support! (Mind you, I bought it 4 months ago). Info could say you have a HT support processor, but if you can't find where to activate it you might have a non-HT motherboard....good luck!

    150829

Right Hyper-Treading not only found in CPU, even if you have CPU with HT supports it still requires a compatibility with mainboard, some board don't support Hyperthreading, there is a mainboard that really designed for HT. In short to enable hyperthreading you must have the two, CPU and the MaindBoard.

  7. Hey people,

I recently bought Halo combact evolved and installed it into my HDD but to my surprise, I could not play the game due to VGA Hardware problems.

I am using an nVIDIA RIVA 64 PRO/64M with 32 MB memory and it is running at 300MHz onboard processor speed with 1.4GB transfer speed. The game complained that It is having probs with my VGA.

I ran an analysis of my VGA with a system analysis software called Everest Home Edition and I was able to detect that my VGA does not have a feature called Hardware Transform and Lighting. I think thats the problem with t he game cause the software recommended that I should get a VGA with that feature as most modern games require it to play.

I would like someone to recommend a good VGA card with that feature for me. ATI or nVIDIA are my prefered VGA cards.

    Please help...

    151020

Try to search from "http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/; you can find many video card there and check for the requiresment you need.

Check it first if it fits the requirements needed for your games before you buy a new one, theres a lot of vga card out there, but for me I suggest asus VGA card Radeon X850Series is enough.

  8. That's crazy and thats a selfish one... grrhhh... If this real why microsoft do that? Are they insecured? Why? I used FireFox but so far I havn't encountered the same case a you mention earlier. Any way, I forgot to mention, in business is not a new issues. may be all of you realized the possible reasons why MS blocks firefox, simple maybe just to stay in IE, and get away from firefox and or other browser, if some links was blocks by microsoft how about other browser? may be not or may yes? I 'm sure those who created firefox can overcome this issues. Microsoft is sometimes do selfish things.

  9. YES, it may be the hardware or some parts of your computer that forced you pc to reboot... If I remember when Microsoft release the new windows XP professional, they say that this OS increases the security that old windows OS don't have and one of them are the automatic shutdown or reboot once the computer detected a hardware failure in your computer. To prevent large damage mostly to your file system windows reboot your pc and try to reload all the system files needed by windows to run properly. Some hardwares that forced the PC to reboot when having trouble are as follows:1. Memory - If one or more of your memory installed into your computer is not function or mul-functioning the computer will reboot and tried to refresh and check the memory.2. Hardisk - This usually occured if you are using old hard drive or hard drive with damaged. if the windows detected damaged from your harddrive it will also reboot the computer to prevent corruptions of system files. this will also scan your hard drive once the computer restarted.3. PRocessors - Usually AMD as this problem, amd need to maintain certain heat in order to run faster and better. if the heat exceeded, it will reboot your pc alos. Usually AMD DURON and Althon has the problem before, I don't don't if they considered this as part security or a bugs.Motherboarth and process sometimes also the reason why your computer is restarted. As I said this is still part of security measures to prevent more damaged in your PC.

  10. 1. You do not need all that spacing so this is a warning.

    2. Newer OS's do not need such expensive programs for Remote Access.

    3. I can connect to any computers I buy out of the box without a KVM over the NET or 3rd Party Remote Software.

    4. Windows 2000, Server, 2003, XP comes with Remote Desktop Connection by Default

    5. Linux or any flavor there of, has SSH, Telnet built in which allows me to run commands as if I was sitting there.

    6. Grant it KVM over the NET allows me to go to the BIOS, but who wants to mess around in the BIOS with out actually being in front of the Computer?

    153740

Actually KVM is just for administrative purposes, it is an option if you want to managed your computer anywhere in the world.

Those remote access desktop allows you to managed your computers, but with limited accessed. The KVM is usually for a large number of servers (server farm) that allows you to fully control your computer remotely up to the bios level. Remote accessed program don't have this features. That is why for me I like KVM switch

but again this is just an option for the users or for the administrator

  11. I dont get that many. I know what I'm doing but some others I know get over 13 virus a week.

    154105

Me, I got with an average of 7 virus aday in my computer.

but I know how to removed that crazy programs when trying to access my computer, some of them is just an old virus and some are new.

I have a collections of virus fixer in my computer and from day to day I checked my pc for new virus and immunized if found.

My pc is always run normally and in good performance.

Virus is not new to me, when you are online your computer are exposed to so many viruses, you should know how to manage them or else you may get headache...

  12. so your using dial up thats why your asking about that

    154052

Nope Saint_Michael I am using DSL connection right now. What I am trying to know is the program that supports that function I am wanted to have, software's dont' support that, hardware maybe do but very expesive and it also requires authority from the telephone company.

Caller ID is all I have now but those features I mention before are not in the caller ID. BuffaloHELP told me that what I am trying to do is illegal and can be consider as hacking.

So now I clear out my mind that there is no such programs that supports those features.

Anyway I am happy with my program right now, If you can read my post earlier, it works like a caller ID also bu has limited functions and works only if my computer is turned on...

with this program I don't need to subscribe a caller ID.

    Thanks for the info...

  13. What you are asking is what the original "hacker" used to do, called, 2600 people a.k.a. alt.2600. The word hacker started when you can dial into a POS, let's say AT&T, and with the correct numerical sequence you can tell that POS to transfer you to the outside extension. Then, you can call anywhere in the world by dialing into AT&T 800 number. This is illegal then, and it is illegal now. And the process of knowing and finding out which number you are being transferred to is "hacking" the POS of the company you dialed. As far as I'm concerned you are asking for an illegal operation. Do not ask it again, please. That's part of the reason that Bernie S. went to jail for about 1 year without bail.

    154043

Thank you BuffaloHELP, now I know and I cleared out my mine that there is no such things that gives what I wanted to have in my computer, if there is, your right that is illegal and can be considered as hacking...

Sorry to ask that question, I am just wondering if there is such programs exist.

But since no programs available for that function atleast I am aware off.

Maybe right now I will be using my programs made in visual basic. This porgram stored number in the database and once the registed caller is in the database I will see in the screen who's calling...

But only works if the number is registered in my database...

It works also like a caller Id provided by the Telephone company but this one has limited function.

But I am happy for this. Anyway I really Appreciate you reply and the information you shared to me...

    Thank you....

  14. If you just purchased a new modem 'm sure it works wellHave you tried to check or contact your ISP provider? Maybe is your provider having problem not your modem. If you are using modem for your internet connection don't expect to much for the performance, it only gives you 56kbps, or less, if you want to have internet connection that fits your desired try to subscribe for DSL or cable connection m sure this will work more than your modem did and with less headache for you too...One thing I forgot, check also the security settings of you computer like firewall and security.

  15. Ahhh.. Ok, In my own idea that font was depend in your computer setup, you can change that using control panel display properties but that was only work in your computer. If you are talking about change the font style of IE or other browser, well I think that's a great idea but I don't see any website with unique font. what i know is that the display of your browser depends on how you configure your computer.Maybe you can change that style but honestly I don't know hot to do it. maybe somebody here can help you with that...:lol:

There are many fonts are available in all windows OS and in another platforms, if you are concerned of the font style to be used in your website, well you can used any of them..

You choose your own font you like then includes in the command. like for example I want to use Tahoma in my website the code goes something like this..

    <font size="2" face="Tahoma"> your text goes here..</font>

so all text you typed in between the opening and the closing tag will be used Tahoma font sytle...

what do you think ???

  18. I just wondering if there is a caller ID program that can be used in my computer.I google for this program but those I found is just a dialin program but dont support caller ID.What I want is if somebody phoned me I want to see what number they are using. also If I dialed a number and somebody transferred me to another line I want to see what is the number of that line they used.Is there any program that supports all of these features? If there is, Please somebody guide through that site so that I may download my own too....

  19. hi,

Well I just started this thread to discuss

what kind of features people would like to have in a mobile phone?

Also which phone currently out there is the best in your opinion?

I currently have the T610 and I think its an awesome phone even when compared to some of the newest ones out there. I think my ideal phone would be fashioned around it. It would be better to have:

    A bigger screen.

    More colors.

    TFT Screen.

    Speaker Phone.

    MPEG Video.

    Polymorphic & MP3 Sound.

    More powerful camera with Zoom.

Built in Memory stick for storing files from any computer (atleast 128 MB)

More easier customizability (changing of face plates like with nokia its so easy)

Better software on it (wider range).

And finally a lot more memory with the option of using memory sticks.

If that could happen I think I would have the phone of my dreams lol.

Especially a phone which allows me to carry my files with me (i use a USB device 128MB to carry all my office files around as a backup) I think that feature in any phone would be awesome, to be able to transfer your files to and from any computer onto a built in "memory storage" in your phone - platform independant.

I dont really stay that up to date with new mobile phone releases but I do love "Sony Ericsson" Products since they really do have a clear edge over all competition.

So if anyone knows of a phone out there with the features i mentioned be sure to let me know lol.

I would love to hear what other people have to say as well - so join in

    140936

For me I like nokia mobile phone with cam and video recorder on it.

I like stole photos and records funny events... aside from that I want to have collections of all memorable events that happens in my life, with mobile supported with video recorder I can do it anytime..

so far I don't have that mobile yet,, its very expensive here in the philippines, m just using ordinary mobile phone only but I am planning to upgrade to a higher version as long as I have enough peny to buy it...

    Thanks!

    149636

Well, if you know the basic security of the cable networking it just the same... imagine that in your wireless you still have cable on it and setup the security.

technically speaking wireless LAN works line cable LAN, the only issues here is that wireless can be in any places as long as your locations covered with your access point.

But still you can set it up personally by modifying yo IP address, if you used HDCP maybe somebody can get you in and access your pc.

wireless setup and cable setup almost the same thing it just technically remove the cable and put some receiver and transmitter device on it that makes two devices communicate to each other...

Wireless fidility is know to be a safe wireless connection but still, those potential users of computer can still get you in no matter what connections you have...

My suggestions for your setup is to personalize everything, your IP, your accesspoint must be limited to other and put some firewall as part of basic security setup.

  21. Yes,It's time to think about this issue now.We download sidebars,News & weather tickers on our desktop. We watch Movie

on Media player by small task bar fit window (feature included from Windows Media Player 9 & 10).

We use search engine tool on desktop to enter our search term within the tool & get search results below the frame.

People who work on computer interfaces think that the web browser interface is providing easier and more initiative than

the famous desktop interfaces (Folder,Menus,Lots of double clicking).if thats so they reasoned, then perhaps the computer

desktop should look like a web site, and you should be able to browse it by clicking on hyperlinks. Also maybe it shouldn't

make difference if you're looking at your local disks or a remote web site.

Though there is much development into Internet technology but the rate for Internet access are still high in many

countries. So people using operating systems without Internet that have such on line goodies will get Question mark signs

on their desktop, this will be annoying. So during installation user must get option of to have system on line or not.E.g.

Simplymepis 3.3 have Kweather tool that prompts every time you log on,shows question mark if you can't connect to

Internet (Best of all you can't remove this tool).

Many Desktop Ticker tools from leading OS developers are as follows:-

    Mac OS X (Tiger) :Dashboard

    Windows Longhorn :Sidebar

    Linux:Kweather & News tickers

You can access many such Free desktop dazzling tools from site http://www.aquaxp.com/

Web development program Like Macro media's Flash if integrated into the Operating system's User interface then the

possibilities are endless. You can see most of the Web Site effects are now offered by such apps but if operating system able to do much animation then you will see your desktop much like browser.

If Functionality of Remote assistance is used for FTP, then FTP would be like looking at users desktop including wallpaper on

desktop.Tools like Hyper terminal,Telnet will became more powerful and destructive too.

Ticker Forums,BBS or IRC would be interesting to see on desktop that new post will scroll Transparently on screen.

Discussion not ends here,Functionality that is being offered by Operating systems that it allows accessing your workspace

through Internet (Remote desktop Connection),Making it possible to overlay web tops on top of your operating system's

desktop, whether it be windows,Mac OS or Linux.

Let me tell what are your views on this.Reply to post.

    153713

I think not all functions from the browser can be found or put into your desktop, there are codes or functions that don't works under desktop, if you notice entering the secured website, like goverment website, website supported by java application, and many more...

those function that can be found in your desktop is maybe just a shortcut that links to some site but still used and calling your browser to load up the whole thing....

You cannot set your desktop as your default browser, can you? see in some other way desktop and browser works the same but not totally the same, just work the same only.

In my opinion browser still be powerful to browse the web, desktop is be part of it and in your computer but for me there is no possibilities to replaced the browser with the old desktop...

  22. As go along and work in IT company I just realized the difference between the Remote Access program and the KVM over the NET.1. First the KVM over the net used special device with firmware embedded on it. This work by assigning IP in to the piece of Hardware and with off course internet connection but found to be as expensive.2. Remote program works also over the internet but need to installed both remote and the client programs. If the remote don't have a client program it will not be able to accessed.3. KVM over the net works without installing any programs on both the remote and the local computers.4. Remote Access program won't allow you to access BIOS or DOS command. if you log off your computer it will terminated the connection from the remote side.5. KVM over the NET works even in DOS Mode and or BIOS setup, your can stay connected eventhough you restart your computer and enter the BIOS setup of DOS command.6. KVM over the NET can be connected to the KVM switch and manage your computer anywhere in the world.7. Remote access programs don't have these features.:rolleyes:Thats the only thing I know right now between the remote accessed program and the KVM switch over the NET.

  23. I'm about to buy new lancard but I am confusing of LANCARD with BOOTROM and WITHOU BOOTROM socket, How important is that and what it's function?

    149621

In my own idea bootrom is an embedded program called firmware into the piece of device. this mostly used for especial function for the device like LANCARD with bootrom and wake on lan function, this was used to awake you computer remotely.

some hardware or even program has its own bootrom also.

I know one program like NeoGeo has a bootrom, this bootrom was used by the program itselt to load the games without installing the whole programs in to your computer.

COmputer has a bootrom also, some swithes has a bootrom.

in short bootrom is a program that communicates with one another for a special function..
