Hey Gang, You guys brought it up before I did. We most definitely should build our own site as a group. I think with our collective strengths would should create something beautiful.We got a good sized group of people here. I think it's about time we all started working. Here is a good task/project manager program that we all can use. I am not saying that we are going to ditch Xisto (no way) this is where we will communicate. it's a stock photo!I think I got it from wikipedia, since this is the logo (the start of one at least) I did research on it. This is a Japanese/English Company, it needed to be totally relevant (which it actually isn't exactly). This bonsai image grows in the northern part of JP. The company serves people on the southern side, the southern pine tree is not as pretty, lol. I don't think it's that much of a big deal. EVERYONE: We can talk about who has what task after we learn everyone's skill set. There are so many components of a website... This is an idea I had, not a constructed system. It's wonderful that momentum has been growing however the actual development of this idea will be built by us, together. Naturally the first project will be our own design site, and we all will be individually in charge of finding clients.

Web Design would be it. From there find sponsors. Be sure to have a subject that people are interested in. Find something that the community you live in has interest in, advertise around town, build traffic and find sponsors in the same area. e.g. I live in JP... English Lang Networking. Automatically will build traffic, alot of us foreigner cant read the jp language. support english business (sponsors, money). Connect EN speaking people with entertainment, jobs, whatever. It's quite a bit of work.

The design of the site is about a 3rd of the way there. I am somewhat satisfied with it, and I think it's about time to go to you all for feedback. F.Y.I. The posts and the sidebar area are not even near finished. It may look bland there. I'm working on it.

This is one of the best sites I have seen in the website review forum. Very professional. Nice work. Other than you it seems that most people are not very experienced in WD.

Sounds like a great problem...well I wouldn't even consider this a problem! I have worked with several youngsters and so many of them don't even know that they have interests (and they do them every day). I also have a million interests, I love drawing, graphic design, surfing, guitar... Maybe this might be a bit helpful. I got 2 simple points to make. Do what you love:For example I know for a fact that I am not gonna be a pro surfer, but the feeling I get after the session makes me feel like a kid again. It makes the whole day that much better. This is what makes it worth doing everyday of my life. Do what your good at:I was (or kinda still am) a web & graphic designer. There is a lot of value (egocentrically and monetarily - I mean it in the best way) if people sincerely appreciate your work. But on the contrast, before I was in the design biz I thought this was going to be an undying passion however, the business and politics part really can damper the fun. All in all I still love it. hmm. as I was writing this a thought has dawned on me. It's the BALANCE that is key. I hope you enjoy the search, what ever you decide, I think you will be happy. Your decision will probably be correct.

UPDATE:I am now learning PHP. I can't say that I can right it but I can read it on a third grade level. You guys are right, this thing is way to easy to learn.From what I am learned, the basic is just "getting" things. I know there is much more to it. It's not nearly as cryptic as I thought it would be.

The idea of collaborative work is great and I'm not trying to shoot your idea down but be warned it is much more difficult to manage a team when everyone is so far away that face to face meetings are not possible. You need people who can work together and know their role and are willing to listen to others ideas. If you have someone who thinks they know everything and believes they are the only one who is right then you will have trouble. I think for a small project it may be possible with a designer, developer combo but anything more complex or large and it will require much more effort. Everyone has to agree on the process of doing things from start to finish. In a larger project a project manager definitely needs to be competent enough and communicate effectively to all parties involved on the development team as well as the client. Because you are developing a website I think the most important role is a experienced Web Developer. The designer can design a really good website but in the end its the developer who has to build it. If the developer is not skilled and experienced enough you will end up with a really bad website with many bugs and missing functionality in the end. Sonesay... Fully fully 100% agreed. Project Management is a must. I also have been in the field for sometime now and have been through similar issues. I am actually very pleased that you wrote this. I started as an IT Intern in Atlanta and ended up being the Online Director there due to short staffing, during this time I started a small business and ended up in Japan for a while which created some issues. But I know that this can happen if we can find the right people (mature, responsible and professional). I have had some very satisfied customers, I can design and develop very beautiful sites...but it never will be interactive. This hurts everytime I think about it.

Of course all teams will be made acustomed to the project bieng built. I think that is a good idea circala, I personally am not a gamer but I think the team building concept would work fine with that.Let's to this. Let's build a team!

I think you got a good start. I would suggest getting a professional sitebuilder. It's alot more difficult to use, but you'll get much better results. Don't be discouraged, there are more than a few issues but, keep on working on it.

Cool. I see that some people responded to the poll. so far it 20% does not know PHP and the rest love it. I do code them and I know HTML and CSS enough to experiment and learn on my own. Java - I cheat, I just take from tutorials that offer the code. I don't steal it; not cool, I don't mind if people use my codes as long as they don't steal the creative parts. I got a website I am working on now, it's for a small ESL Tutoring Program that I will be starting in a couple of weeks. I will most definitely post it on Xisto forums on completion

The are tons of programming languages out there. I have been a web designer for a while now and I am looking to finally take that big step into programming. It seems that PHP is the popular one out now days but I don't want to waste time and energy on the wrong language. It certainly can talk the talkCan it walk the walk?
