  1. I have a 40 gig Ipod and you are so right for getting the mini, 40 gigs is just too much. I had to be creative to find other uses for it. e.g. i now use it to back up the important files on my pc.
  2. connecting a key to a program is not that difficult, take a look at the microsoft 'white papers'they did it for the offive keyboard. pretty basic stuff really. I think that ibm is a great innovator, love the new 'fingerprint security feature' as well. But I am not so wild about the backup/recovery option. takes up too much space in my opinion. I am still in favor of external (cd etc) backup options. Its not such a great feature on small tablet pc's that have limited memory cpace - like the new X41
  3. I wish that all the eu countries would have had a referendum - with or without consulting the people - all at once. Now everyone is not sure where the countries stand who did not yet vote. If I was english, polish or danish I would still want to have my say in the matter. I think this is an oppertunity for europe rather than a setback. If the people can make clear why they don''t want the constitution then that is going to be great learning lesson for the european union that can be used to plan the future of europe. Maybe it will also get the eu to listen more to citizens as well as start a debate amounst citizens of europe as to what they want from europe. I know quiet a few people inivolvved in the eu and they all tell me that they would love the people to come to them with ideas for europe- except no one does. The future of europe? not sure at the moment - but sure that there is one for the european union. hope there will be a role for france and holland to play though...... especialy if every other country gets a chance to vote and says yes. Techinically speaking the constitution can still be passed with a 2/3 majority of european countries voting in favor for it.....
  4. I so agree that you are right - in the arguementational sense only. and I feel you do have a valid point. however the reason why I say it would be better to take the societal perspective and leave out the political one (and again i think it is a valid point you are making) is because organised religion has its own politics ad does generally not bend to political leaders. I also am of this opinion because I thinkw e should stick to societies views rather than political views. Even though the analoy with the us president is correct, I would leave it out because it opens up with discusion to politics and religion.
  5. I think it looks great, no more paper notebooks! I love the digital world. its so much more suited to my lifestyle- being on the move all the time you want to have tech at your fingertips. I am just not sure about the performance of these notebooks, I doubt they will be able to run proper games and video demanding software. Also the are so bloody expensive!!
  6. To answer your question: You can upload the songs from a Cd to your ipod, you can buy them online, and you can even put your mp3's on the ipod as well.
  7. I am dutch, and also very sorry that my country said no. From what horus says its clear that the debate was not only about the constitution but more about the european enlargement, the euro and local politics. Don't get me wrong, I think that the way that the debate was being run was appauling. Horus, one thing you should realise is that the no campaign treid puttting the constitution in a negative light and the yes campaign treid putting it in a positive light that was thier job. I think the yes campaign in nl should have been better at adressing the no compaigns concerns. obviously they did not. A number of things must be made clear in regards to the three 'concerns'i mentioned earlier if there is going to be a sensible debate about this topic 1. Local buisness in the netherlands took advantage of the euro and invreased prices, as a result it seemed that it was due to the euro. But really it was due to the government not being strict enough in controling the price mechacnisms. The euro in fact is good for europe economicaly and there is no way that you can argue in economic terms that the implementation fot he euro would lead directly to a price increase. you can blame a) the greeedy buisnesses (e.g. the horeca) and your own governments for that. 2. The qoute you gave is rather weak. Don't believe everything you read. the 'limitations of freedom'that are mentioned in that quote are also ones that you will find in any normal western democratic government (e.g. the right to enforce schooling is something very normal). + they are also things that you will find in any government that is actively adderssing the threath of terrorism. In the netherlands we have laws like this as well, the uk has them, france has them, germany etc. So there is no more than strange limitations of freedom int he constitution thats just crazy. if anything - i am repeating myself in this discusion - by giving citizens the right to 'throw out' eu legislation it is giving more power to the people. 3. 'Healthcare'is not an issue of the constitution and you are confused on this point. it is a choice - and an issue - of the local government. there are very other reasons why health care is going to be become more expensive in the netherlands. mainly the innefficiency of the system is to blame as well as lazy polititians who need to get down to buisness and stop wasting time. People forget that the Eu cobnstitution is also a compromise between the right and the left. no one will get everythingt hat they want from the constitution. I wish people would just have looked to make sure that what was most important to them was in the constitution. But I guess I live in an ideal world. + I also believe that we should have had a vote all at once.
  8. This seems to be a common complaint, do others have problems with the help service of pay pal? I am not too keen on joining an organisation that has bad service. thanks everyone for the responses, this is all really great stuff for someone who is thinking about opening a paypal account.
  9. Google does this to be able to track with sites are good or bad, good ones get on the list of quick hits in the search engines bad ones don't. and thats all folksThe google toolbar is so handy
  10. In any order- Victoria an empire under the sun- Hearts of Iron II- Rome total war- civilisation III (IV coming soon)- counterstrike
  11. In my opiinion the best and most snazzy of them all is the ipod! its awsesome. you can put as many songs as you like on there,as much as you want in terms of movies and other stuff that you can take from pc to pc. the only drawback is that you need a driver to be installed on every pc you want to use it on. so its a part of the apple cult. too bad about that. other than this its design ios great and modern and it looks cool and sounds good!whats your favorite?
  12. IBM is coming out with a brand new tablet PC that you can turn around and use. I am looking to buy one myself when it comes out because I think it would be great to use for taking notes in class, working while traveling and playing the odd game. IBM tablet PC http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ ACER tablet PC http://www.acer.com/worldwide/selection.html Does anyone know any more? But Since I am a careful consumer I would like to heard your experiences/opinions about tablet pc's.
  13. The Problem with this debate is that everyone is talking about how the feel about the issue rather than thinking logically about who this positive and negative sides of abortion and who this affects. Allow me to argue the following. Society (at least western democratic society) is based on the individial rights of each individual citizen. Women are the people who are affected first by this issue and then others. ergo we should only be asking women what they think about this issue because it is them that are going to have to make the choice as well as have to bear the consequences of it first. In my opinion women have been forced to take roles in society for way to long and they need more rights. I believe there fore that the only logical answer to this question is that abortion must be a right for women. However, given the large consequences that abortion has I also believe that there should controls and much support for women who make this choice. a phycologist or a doctor needs to decide whether the person should go through witht he abortion on the basis of thier motives and so forth. This not only for control, but also because the person (and family) going through with the abortion are going to be traumatised and will ask themselves if they made the right descision in the future and so if they go through with an abortion they need to make sure that it is the right descision and that they have thought it through otherwise they may have a life of regret ahead of them.believe me going through with an abortion is no fun and people do not do this for fun. The best thing that can be said here is that you need to watch out, not by abstaining... but by making sure that you use proper contraception and are safe! So, the only life that should be dicussed is the life of the mother in question, not the unborn baby because that life does not exist in this world untill it is actualy born.
  14. Don't be a shamed of what you family does. I agree with dark lord as well good comment
  15. "I do not agree with a unified currancy especially one that is as weak as the Euro is currently" Why is that you do not agree with the currency? can you be more specific on what points you feel it falls short. Because as a traveller I am all for one euro, the little person wins al round. Also as a union we are much stronger with the common currency. Did you know that all the currencies are linked together anyway? If the pound moves then the euro moves, if the euro moves then the pound moves. so you might as well have the euro anyway, because your currency has been linked to it for ages already!!! "I would also like to see less interference from Brussles " I am sorry to day that this is really up to you, no member state has to accept anything from brussels except if it is law. No country can force another do do anything. For example there is a law banning snuff in europe. but the crazy swedes are not going to ban it in thier own country because too many people value it. So you see that no country has to accept anything that comes from brussels and nothing if forced on people. the fact that much is decided in brussels is in fact nice because it is a sign that all the countries are agreeing on things!!! "I have very little knowledge of the workings of the European Union, however I do feel this is in part down to burocracy" Well why do you feel this comes down to bureacracy? I think people expect too much of a 'free lunch' from thier democracies, its the states fault its the states fault! The fact of the matter is that the EU works really really hard to put all the information out there for its citizens to read about. The Eu website is one of the best I have seen and most transpartent. There is also a toll free number that people can call from anywhere in europe so they can get information, as well an commision and parliament information offices in each member state where you can go, or call to get all the information you want. this is a point that frustrates me very much because I believe that citizens should be active in informing themselves, especialy when the information is out there. The Eu is in fact completely reliant on the member states to actively market the EU because it is not allowed to do itself! so if there is any ignorance about the EU one van only blame oneself and thier own government. Lastly I would like to say that I mean no offence by taking this line, I completely understand your concerns and worries, I too would like to seee leaders that are more in touch with reality and I think it is great that the Eu constitution has been rejected because I hope that it will send a very clear message to our leaders. The sad part is that we elected them. the only sad part about having the constitution rejected is that there was a clause in there that would have allowed us to elect a president as well as reject Eu legistlation as european people! that I do mourn.
  16. Its true that women are allowed to be priests in some religions (e.g. anglican church), but they are still not allowed to be bishops. The fact that there has been no female president in the US should only be of a minor consequence to this debate. organised religion in the way we are talking about it should not have anything to do with politics. However I do get your point that traditional values need to shift since it is traditionaly been men who have been religious leaders. In think this really has to come down to people's preceptions and how much change they are willing to accept. I hope that they will be able to accept more. It still seems to me that religion is outdated and needs updating, if only because it already functions as thje guideing spirit of so many people. Maybe if religion changes it can bring about that great change in societies that it has done so in the past. Just like a civilisations need to innovate and reinvent itself to stay alive i believe a religion should adjust itself to the needs of its followers and not the other way around.
  17. So overall it sounds like its pretty safe. I have heard a lot about email scammers trying to get info and bank details. For anyone who is interested this webstie has some very interesting stories. http://www.419eater.com/ Its a scam the scammer website where crazy (in my opinion) people have a lot of fun getting back at scammers. the letters section is where you will find the interseting stories
  18. ok so its the responsibility of the un, but did they do anything no? I at least am happy that Bush did something that may bear positive fruit regardless of his motives to do so. I wish the un was more active in enforceing its resolutions. maybe then they would be taken more seriously by everyone. The middle east will be a much easier mess to solve now that a western power is actualy threatening with war and as a matter of fact, to enforce UN resolutions (even if they might have done it for thier own purpose)
  19. getting sadam out of power was a good idea, however the way it was done was not a good idea. i believe dicators should be overthrouwn and i definitely don;t like terrorists. What frustrates me is that its takes a bad excuse for the western world to invade a country and overthrow a dictator. There are plenty more countries where we should be doing that. And why didn;t we do it in the first place during the kuwait war? there are too many political and economic intersts involved in the iraw war for anyone to say that it was just about kicking out a dictator. because if that was the case then i can name a long list of countries that need invading just for that reason alone. Maybe bush was mad because that 'man treid killing my (his) daddy'!!!Well then I wish that some more dictators treid killing his daddy.ps/ credit to bush for invading though! Iraq is better of.
  20. the best answer would be: none of them would win. 1. USA does not have the capacity to occupy china2. China does not have the capacity to occupy the united states3. Both have very sofitocated armies and weapons (not to mention nuclear weapons) 4. Both sides have very different ideologies and socities that are also very proud meaning that they would not surrender to each other5. we have something called the Un where people go before they respove wars and search for compromise. 6. the only reason why they might go to war is over taiwan, which is an issue that will be resolved. War is not a good thing, and it is dumb to speculate about it. Even though it is fun..
  21. http://www.paypalwarning.com/ I have considered opening a pay pal account to conduct transactions on the web but after reading this webite I am not so sure... It offers plenty of warnings and stories of people that were scammed. I am curious about your opinions and experiences if any. EDIT : Please check your spellings
  22. Religion is outdated, it hasn;t developed as society did. women can't be priests in nearly every christian religion and definitely cannot be a part of the higher church echelon. confoms sexuality, marrige. On all of these topics the church and christianity seems to be out of date with normal world opinions. in my view the chuirch needs a haulover. One thing is strange thought... numbers of members of protestant churches have been on the increase in the states and more young people are getting married! ca it be that society has become so fragmented that people cannot deal with thier own individuaity anymore and have to resort to moralism and the church... to find an opinion for themselves. I do not understand this trend.
  23. religion should have nothing to do with this subject! only rational logic.
  24. the answer has to be yes, if only because we all enjoy the freedom of liberty and should not take away others freedom. Gay and lesbias should have the same rights as everyone else! Family is the conerstone of any society and by rejecting 'gay' familes we are not at all helping that corner stone to act as an important part of society. Grant all people the same rights! then we can move onto a topic that should be discussed in the twentieth century and not one that should have cleary been descided years ago. People are too afraid of change and that what they do not know. Go meet some homosexual people if you do not know any of them. Only then you should be able to have an opinion on this topic that is educated and well though tru. otherwise please think about whether you know what you are talking about!
  25. Anyone have an opinion about the european union and where you believe it should be going? (I am very curoious what non european think as well). Now is the time to talk about it! the dutch and the french have said no to the european constitution, european federalism has thus been declared dead? I would like to have a strong united and working europe where countries economies benifit each other and relations are good. Many people who were alive during the cold war are worried that the european union will crumble and we will all start fighting again what do you think? I belive that europe will function but that a number of things have to change for it to function more effectively. the goal of the european union should be change that benifits all the member states as well topics that enourage innovation accross europe in all fields.
