  1. Well, I would lie if I said I'm here for something other than the free hosting. :)However I like that the forum is so big and there are many topics to talk about; I've already found the Games Area suitable for me, but I don't understand why there is a Strategy sub-forum and a RTS (real time strategy) sub-forum; that just doesn't make any sense.Regarding my job ... yes, it may be a dead-end one, but sometimes it gives me enough time to study about stuff I really care about, like networking and programming. Sometimes it may be a real pain, like today we changed the main printer and I installed the new one on all PCs; all the users have to do is set the new one as default and they don't even know how to do that. This means that I have to get around to nearly 50 PCs and do that myself. Even so some users swear that not all their jobs are printed on the new printer. This was amusing the first couple of times I heard it, but now it just got old.Anyway ... I need the free hosting account so I can test my programming skills on an "out there" website instead of the one and only localhost.
  2. Even though I never used them, I've heard a lot of good things about Linksys routers. I guess this is expected because they are made by Cisco Systems, which you know are the best in networking.I personally own an Edimax Router and I'm very happy with it. It supports the "n" technology which provides great bandwidth. Also, most Edimax routers come with a Wireless LAN USB that enhances the wireless distance and can give a wireless connection even to desktop PCs.
  3. I agree, uTorrent is the best torrent client because of all the reasons mentioned above. There is also a version for Linux called kTorrent.Another great torrent client is Vuze (used to be know as Azureus); however I don't use it as much because of all the ads.For LANs there is nothing better than DC ... in all its forms (DC++, oDC, stronDC).
  4. VLC is the best choice for those "unknown format" clips that no other player seems to know. It's not the best looking, but it can play almost anything, even broken clips. As for an all-around good music and video player I recommend Jet Audio. It's light on resources, the audio quality is very good, it supports subtitles and reads all playable media if you have the right codecs. As for those in the poll ... none for me, thanks.
  5. Ah, Heroes of Might and Magic ... the good times.I've played them all, including HOMM IV, which was a rather downfall in the series.HOMM III was, without a doubt, the best of them all and arguably one of the best strategy games ever made. I played it with my friends over LAN, but mostly in HotSeat for years.
  6. It's not fair to compare Civilization with Warcraft because they belong to different genres. Yes, they are both strategies, but one is a TBS (turn based) and the other is a RTS (real time). While Civilization lacks the dynamism, it fully compensates through an endless number of features. The first time I came in contact with a Sid Meyer product was perhaps 10 or more years ago when I laid my hands on Alpha Centauri, a game I still worship. I think that Turn Based Strategies ask much more of a player than quick reactions and that's why I find them more challenging and overall above other strategy games.
  7. Hello to all of you! I am Michael (in my language it's spelled Mihai). I was unfortunately born in Romania and, even more unfortunately, I'm still here now. I work as an IT Helpdesk for a company that you never heard before and probably never will. For those that don't know, Helpdesk means I have to make sure that users inside the company don't wreck PCs and printers. I always have my hands full because I have to deal with a lot of "what does this button do?" kind of people. Hoping of better days... (hmmm... should add this to my signature ) Mihai
  8. I am a faithful FireFox user. The only place I don't use it is at work because it is restricted :)Internet Explorer is awful and I don't wish for anyone to be forced to work with it.I've heard good things about Opera, but I never got the chance to use it, because I feel that FireFox does everything I need and very good.I've never even seen Chrome although it's being hyped up everywhere I look; I just don't like the idea of a browser made by Google because I just know they'll sneak in somehow a lot of extra ads in there.
  9. If you are a soccer fan like myself, but your feet are not quite strong or fast enough to make it on the field, then Pro Evolution Soccer is the next best thing.PES (as most people call it) 2009 delivers incredible gameplay and even better graphics than last year. The only thing that FIFA still has is its popularity, but that's slowly falling apart.
  10. Norton does its job pretty well, but consumes a lot of resources in the process. With Panda I didn't have too many problems until I decided to uninstall it as it tried to hang on to my system like ticks to a dog.Bit Defender is good, but its updates don't come as soon as you need them so if your PC gets infected with a new virus it may take some time before we'll be able to get rid of it.I believe that Nod32 is still the best anti virus solution you can get; I've used it for about 2 years until I turned to the free Avira.I've never heard of MKS.PC-cillin and McAfee are your standard anti virus solutions in the sense that you get your money's worth.Maybe Kaspersky should have been up there as well; the only problem I had with it was that dreadful squealing noise it made when it found a threat.Avira and AVG are the best free products today.
  11. I was searching for a free web host with no forced ads that supports php and mysql.I've seen a lot of good reviews about Xisto and here I am.
