  1. Warriors welcome back Stacey

    By staff writers

    November 07, 2008

NEW Zealand rugby league legend Stacey Jones will return to the NRL in 2009, having signed a one-year contract with the Warriors.

The much-decorated 32-year-old says an approach by Warriors coach Ivan Cleary and a taste of top-level football with the All Golds had rekindled his desire to again playing the NRL.

Its a huge decision but Im so excited about whats ahead, said Jones.

A veteran of 238 NRL games, Jones last played for Warriors in 2005 before moving to France and linking up with Les Catalans in the English Super League.

After two years with the French club, contractual issue meant Jones was forced to sit on the sidelines in 2008.

The truth is I had originally signed a new contract to play on with Les Catalans this year but it was a bit rushed" he said.

"By then wed had two great years in Perpignan and we were homesick and really keen to come back,

The club was good about it and let me go but on the condition I couldnt play for any other club in 2008.

His commitment to play in the New Zealand Rugby Leagues farewell match to long-time Kiwi team-mate Ruben Wiki on October 12 compelled Jones to take on a training programme.

After training to play for the All Golds in New Plymouth and playing in that game, I realised how much I had missed being out there, he said.

The inspirational half-back and leader is aware of the challenge that lies ahead in returning to peak fitness, but says the driving force behind his return is very clear.

My motivation is to try to help the club win a premiership.

"I like the look of the roster the Warriors have for next season.

"To me, its one of the most exciting all-round squads the club has had."

I don't really remember him a lot playing but I play with him on my rugby league game. I've also seen videos of him or highlights shall I say and he is a really good player. Went over to France to play in the European Super League (ESL) for Les Catalans and then recently played for the All Golds. It would be great to see him back and at 32 he is doing reasonably well!

  2. forget about that lol. australia is going to win! the rugby league world cup is not as competitive as the rugby union world cup because australia and england are the only countries that have ever won the world cup. if only they could make it a bit more competitive.

Spot on joe!, that's why I got so fired up that nrl players who wanted to switch nation couldn't play. The reason for that was exactly what you said the world cup needs and that's competition. Also these were high quality players and sometimes one player can make a whole lot difference. Australia has it in the bag though.

  3. I think it is a isolated case because HP laptops are probably the best out there for your money (best value). My brother has a HP and nothing is wrong with it all, and also just a question was customer support HP or Compaq?, because I think they will both be HP but I just think that everyone else has been ok with HP etc.

  4. I'm not trying to sound illegal or anything but hackers can quite easily bypass Microsoft's Genuine Software Validation and Piracy programs and softwares. I've heard a few clicks and types with the registry or something can get you a pirated, newly updated Operating System. Also I think that Bill Gates edition is total bullsh*t. But get it from your friend if you wanna try it, if he hacks you, tell us about it here and I will do my best to help you. If it works, post it here. lol

Your right I have searched for some Vista skins and ended up looking at a validator where it validates vista without a realy serial (genuine). Also agree with you on the Bill Gates edition, if anything he would have just Vista Ultimate on his super computer, and maybe edited to suit him hence his special edition. But I think if this was true that it would be just a release named after Bill Gates and just a bit modified.

  5. Kiwi developer Sidhe announce a new version of their popular League sim.
With the 13th Rugby League World Cup just around the corner, New Zealand developer Sidhe Interactive has teamed up with Aussie distributors Home Entertainment Suppliers (HES) to release an updated version of 2005's Rugby League 2 dubbed Rugby League 2: World Cup Edition, for the PlayStation 2.

Aside from jersey and roster updates for NRL, Super League, and international teams, Rugby League 2: World Cup Edition has added five new stadiums to the list of playable venues, as well as the addition of the Gold Coast Titans, who joined the NRL in 2007. Another addition will be new in-game cutscenes, which will show players taunting each other after a bad play, celebrating tries, and other animations. Business development manager for HES David Fobles said in a press release: By working with Sidhe to deliver a new version of the game with updated features and rosters, were giving the fans what they want on the platform they want it most.

Unlike the original Rugby League 2, World Cup Edition will not be appearing on the Xbox, or feature online play for PS2. When GameSpot AU contacted Fobles about this, he was unable to offer us anything more than "no comment".

Rugby League 2: World Cup Edition for PS2 is due out in early November in Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.

You will be able to find some screen shots of it too.

Well I loved the first game, let alone the second one was freaking good as. I love the fact that they have updated because it gets quite annoying having players in the wrong team (outdated). My PS2 version of it has broken so I'm wanting to get but not sure if I will be able to. A real downside for fans is that it's not out on XBOX which is gonna cause a stir as you can see the comments on the source i provided with you. I just hope Sidhe makes a third game!

  6. Awww man they look good, I love fruit recipes because they're healthy and very tasty. These are average in health, lol.I am cooking some stuff up this weekend and have some apples in the fridge so I might come back to this page and use these. Thanks mate. I love making apple, banana and chocolate muffins, my favourite!!

  7. Well I myself haven't used Front page but some say to me that it is a little easier then Dreamweaver although Dreamweaver is much more powerful. I have Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 but I don't actually use it that much. I have tried a draw things with it and find it really complex but I am a noob with coding so I'll use that excuse. I've seen some Dreamweaver designs and they are really good! But designing web pages isn't really my thing.

  8. Canberra set to launch A-League bid

    By Peter Veness

    November 06, 2008

CANBERRA appears close to launching a fully-funded bid for an A-League licence after winning backing from Victorian businesswoman Millissa Fischer.

Fischer already owns Victorian Premier League side Altona Magic and will financially back the Canberra bid.

"We can work together and I look forward to seeing a winning team in Canberra. It's very exciting,'' Fischer said.

Football Federation Australia (FFA) requires a $6 million base before considering the bid and on Thursday night a crowd of about 100 people heard $5 million had been raised.

The ACT government has committed $2.5 million and a further $2.5 million had been promised by unnamed investors.

It is understood Ms Fischer's support will bring Canberra to the $6 million required but the bid committee would not confirm this.

Former Australia great Ned Zelic is also involved in the bid and has not ruled out returning to his home town full-time as coach.

"I've always been one in the past to pretty much only do things that I believe in and this is something that I really do believe in,'' Zelic said.

"I'm convinced that Canberra deserves a team in the A-League.''

Bid leader and local business leader Ivan Slavich told the crowd market research had indicated a Canberra A-League outfit would attract an average crowd of 15,000 people - another of the federation's prerequisites.

"It's for the whole community,'' Slavich said.

The bid committee will meet with FFA on November 18.

"I can see no reason why we would not be accepted into the league for season 2010/11.

Sorry about all the sports updates, but I'm sport mad and love listening, watching and reading it. Well on topic now.

I think it's encouraging to see so much soccer is being placed into Australian sport, with the A-league getting more popular and bigger. But the only thing is that like the NBL over the past few seasons, clubs may not get the support and revenue to keep going and might just crash. But at the rate of soccer being more popular I am sure they will do fine. The other worry is that a North Queensland team is going up as well and finding good players might be an issue.

Never the less it's a great idea and I hope it goes well obviously. A positive is that they only have around $1 million dollars to raise even though that still is a bit of money. They have raised 2 out of 3 million.

  9. Well to be honest I can't stand horror and yes it's partially because most of it scares me. The only scary movie I would watch is the Scary Movie Series. As you might of guessed I love comedy and it's even tastier when mixed some good action.Favourite actors would have to be Jim Carey, Steve Carell and someone else who is on the tip of tongue just can't remember. These are comedian type actors most of the time so yes love Comedy. I love the action too, just would rather a laugh most of the time!

  10. Well at the moment I have a real liking of Indian food, it tastes great! But I must say a good lemon meringue never hurt me as well as pizza. Burgers, Starburst lollies, chicken strips are also on my list of favourite foods, but I can't really think of more that I like although I know I'd have about 50 more foods if I really thought about it. I must say this topic makes me extremely hungry especially those pizza teasers on the first page. I don't know about the burger kinda makes me wanna puke at the same time as wanting to eat it.P.S I almost forgot my favourite, pasta and lasagna!!!

  11. Irish thrash Samoa in boilover

    November 05, 2008

INSPIRED by a record-breaking performance from winger Pat Richards, Ireland caused a major boilover at the rugby league World Cup with a 34-16 win over Samoa to advance to a semi-final qualifier.

Needing to win by five points to finish top of the pool, underdogs Ireland unbelievably bolted to a 14-0 lead at Parramatta Stadium, despite taking a defensive pummeling in the first 10 minutes.

Samoa got back to within two points late in the first half before Ireland scored the next 16 points to blow the Pacific island side out of the water.

Fox Sports Travel: Buy World Cup final tickets

Richards haul of 22 points from three tries and five goals was the most in a World Cup match for Ireland, eclipsing Steve Prescott's bag of 14 against Samoa eight years ago.

It could have been an even bigger night for the former Wests Tigers premiership winner who missed with five of his ten kicks at goal.

But that was about all that went right for Samoa, who won their opening game against Tonga and were favourites to make it out of pool 3.

Instead they finished bottom of the pool courtesy of points differential.

Samoa pounded the Ireland line for the first ten minutes, but had two potential tries to skipper and five-eighth Nigel Vagana and hooker Terrence Seuseu rubbed out by video referee Steve Ganson.

Trailing 22-12 midway through the second half, they lost talisman Vagana to injury and then had forward David Solomona placed on report by the French referee for elbowing centre Sean Gleeson.

After surviving the early onslaught, Ireland piled on three tries in seven minutes with Richards using his 23cm height advantage to leap over for the first over opposing winger Matt Utai before four-pointers to lock Simon Finnigan and centre Sean Gleeson.

Shellshocked Samoa hit back with Vagana capitalising on a spilt ball by Ireland full-back Michael Platt before Misi Taulapapa burrowed over from dummy half.

Richards scored his second try three minutes into the second half when he cut inside and beat three defenders, the two sides then trading tries before the hulking winger completed his hat-trick inside the last two minutes.

Ireland coach Andy Kelly was proud of his team's performance, though he felt they still had room for improvement.

"I think we learnt the lesson from the Tongan game and tonight we came out a little bit stronger and a little bit wiser," Kelly said.

    "It was a smashing effort."

Richards, a former Parramatta Junior, who was back on his old home ground, relished the opportunity to be part of Ireland's World Cup journey, but stressed it was a different experience to the Tiger's premiership-winning run.

"It is a totally different competition, I've never played for Ireland before, but I'm really enjoying it," Richards said.

"Being part of the squad is very special. We're very tight knit and that helped."

Samoa coach John Ackland said while the short five-day turnaround for his team after the much-anticipated clash with Tonga could have been a factor, they had known about that prior to the tournament.

He rued the series of lost scoring opportunities, but paid generous credit to Ireland's gritty defence.

"They defended their tryline terrific, three or four last-ditch tackles, full credit to them," Ackland said.

"We got into their 20 and we had numbers and didn't take advantage," he said.

Ackland said Vagana was feeling "pretty sore" after being helped off the ground.

Yet another Rugby League World Cup update from me. I though Scotland beating Fiji was pretty intense but holy crap! Ireland beating Samoa is massive, and great I guess although it kinda screws around my Samoa best Australia theory. I thought Fiji had a chance to beat Australia and they do still I guess.

Although this world cup has been one-sided as in AUSTRALIA, AUSTRALIA, AUSTRALIA just hammering everyone I think a lot of positives has come out of it, such as as Scotland, Ireland and the Fiji. Ireland also will advance to the semi-finals so good luck to them.

  12. Scots finally break Cup duck
    By Todd Balym
    November 05, 2008

SCOTLAND pulled off an incredible 18-16 late victory over highly-fancied Fiji at Bluetongue Stadium to claim their country's first ever rugby league World Cup win in five attempts.

Wakefield prop Oliver Wilkes barged over in the 76th minute to level scores before captain Danny Brough kept his perfect goalkicking record in tact with a left-footed conversion for victory.

But the Bravehearts had to withstand a frenetic final few minutes before securing a courageous win in front of a crowd of 9,720 fans.

Despite the narrow defeat Fiji still finish top of Pool 2 and will face Ireland in a playoff for the semi-finals at Skilled Park on the Gold Coast on Monday with the winner to face Australia.

Scotland jump to second in the pool and will play Tonga in Rockhampton on Saturday while France will play Samoa at CUA Stadium on Sunday after the islanders lost top place of Pool 3 with a heavy 34-16 defeat to Ireland.

Scotland led 12-4 at half time but that was quickly eroded as lock Jason Bukuya scored in the 43rd minute with the help of four defenders to pull the deficit back to just two points.

The Fijians looked to have secured the win when sustained dominance led to winger Semi Tadulala's second try of the night in the 73rd minute.

But while the Fijians started the game with a prayer it was Scotland who received the miracle as they won the ball from a short re-start and charged down field to score a try and secure their first win since entering the World Cup in 2000.

Scotland full-back Michael Robertson gave his side a surprise lead at the break when he touched down in the final minute of the first half after Brough's chip kick ricocheted off the uprights.

Winger Jon Steel scored Scotland's first try in the sixth minute after man of the match Ian Henderson ran down the blindside.

Fiji centre Sevanai Koroi was dragged down short of the line in the 22nd minute but set up his side's first try with a brilliant offload for Tadulala to score his first try of the night in the corner.

While there was plenty of ugly football in the contest, the worst of it came when Henderson and Bukuya traded haymakers in the 35th minute after an incident in the play-the-ball.

Wow, it really surprised when I heard this actually. I though Fiji would come out on top as you can see on my previous post but Scotland stepped up and won their first world cup match ever. Great to see though!

The only negative thing for the Scottish coming from that game was that they will not proceed to the semi-finals but they may have a last game which they will want to prove a point with. Good on 'em!

  13. *puts on mp4 player*I'm definitely trying this, having a look at all the comments is encouraging. They all say it works. Well I have a small six pack sorta, but that's because I play footy. But you know what I am gonna go try this right now. Even though the title says "in 3 minutes" it is to good to be true, you may feel the burn in 3 minutes but it won't get you anywhere, you just have to do it for three minutes everyday.

  14. who prefered primary school over secondary school. secondary school is more challenging and has more responsibilities but you are more free and you can be more independent.

I agree, high school is way more challenging but it feels a lot better. You are able to do what you want as in subjects. You can learn with people who want to learn what your learning, if that makes any sense. It's a far better experience as well.

  15. Scots to put the pressure on FijiBy Wayne Heming
    November 04, 2008

SCOTLAND coach Steve McCormack has conceded his players face a massive challenge against a flamboyant Fiji in their World Cup showdown at Bluetongue Stadium.

But he scoffs at suggestions his Bravehearts will be blown off the paddock by the Cup entertainers who shocked France with their power, pace and skill after handing out a 42-6 hiding to the French.

France had opened their World Cup campaign with 36-18 win over the Scots making the form line heavily in Fiji's favour.

"It's a massive challenge," said McCormack who, like everyone else, was impressed by Fiji's big win over France.

"The manner in which they beat the French was a surprise to everybody and they've got a very fast back line."

McCormack has made eight player and positional changes to shake-up his players after their disappointing opening game.

Ben Fisher comes into hooker with Ian Henderson moving to lock while Oliver Winks has won a start in the front-row pushing Paul Jackson to the bench.

The other significant change is Wade Liddell's selection on the wing to take advantage of his dummy half running.

"Wade is very solid and very explosive out of dummy half and and as a fullback is quite safe under the high ball," said McCormack.

"We only played at 40 or 50 per cent of our capabilities against France.

"We were soft around the rucks and if you look at the two results it's a huge challenge.

"It may have been attitude but we showed some glimpses when we were in good field position."

McCormack said Scotland's objective would be to put some real pressure on Fiji and see how they handle it.

"We've not seen them play under pressure and that's what we want to do," he said.

Fiji are in a commanding position to top Pool Two ahead of the clash and only need to win or lose by less than 27 points to advance to a playoff with Pool 3 winners for a spot in the semi-finals.

Scotland face a near impossible task of topping the group as they need to win by 28 points or more to surpass the Fijians.

Well I think after the Fijians beat France in the biggest upset of the cup, Scotland will be coming up against a very conifdent and motivated Fiji side. I actually want Scotland to win but I just don't think it will be very likely. Scotland has Michael Robertson playing for them which is why I half support them, he plays for Manly Sea Eagles who are my team.

Fiji looked very very good against France and showed it on the scoreboard. I think Fiji by 10 but I just hope Scotland puts up a fight for everyone.
