fixing the ntldr is pretty hard however there are ways to fix the problem or just boot, search google for hiren boot cd, that iso contains tons of system diagnostic, editing, fixing , restoring and backing up tools in dos, windows xp, and linux all three on one cd, very recommended live cd.

I think since its a laptop you should not use a windows anyway , a linux distro seems like a much more fun and cool solution, such as ubuntu. It will give you alot of experience in the linux sphere and teach you plenty of useful things about linux overall. Try ubuntu , just give it a try it can be booted live.

Windiws operating systems are known for getting slower over time as viruses and unused softwares are collected and started at once, but if you speak of the image on screen it could be your video card is not well connected or gets too overheated. Try to see if its plugged correctly and is not too hot.
