  1. Like the originator of this thread, I too have been interested in stocks for a long while now. Does anybody have some good tips or explanations about the best way to get started in the market? Any books and websites people have found helpful? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
  2. I agree that something needs to change in baseball to even out the playing field, regardless of me being advantageous from the current system being a Cubs fan. Even if teams do "homegrow" their talent, teams like the Yankees, Bosox, Blue Jays, Mets, and Cubs can buy the most expensive, most talented free agents every year and one-up the prospect-laden teams. However, you can't claim that small market teams can't win, after watching the Florida Marlins. Their GM is not given nearly enough respect after he dismantles their team after every championship only to win another ring only 5 years later. Brilliant.
  3. I've gotta go with soccer slightly ahead of baseball, or the world's sport just ahead of America's sport. Baseball lacks the creativity that there is in soccer. This creativity is spawned from the fact that there is pretty much only one basic rule: that the players aren't allowed to use their hands. David Beckham seemed like a failed experiment to get America back into the game of soccer. I hate to say it, but it seems as if nothing will get the sport back on track here in the country.
  4. I really don't think this is a part of it at all. I'm sure you can find just about as many pitches out of the zone that were called strikes. Its baseball. Joba is getting way too much attention as it is. And as they say, all luck evens out in the end.
  5. I don't know so much about the Mets, but i hate the yankees first of all because i am a cubs fan and they are one of the cubs few rivals for the role of "america's team." Also, every single time they play Boston (which ends up being about 6 times a year, definitely not a national phenomenon), every single sports show and radio station feels the need to spend half their program talking about the great rivalry. I don't mind a little bit, but it gets old fast.
  6. First of all, I'll start by saying I don't believe in conspiracy theories when about a certain sports league pulling a stunt to gain back a few viewers. I just think that athletes are human, even though they may seem supernatural at times, and a basketball player cannot make any shot at any time just because somebody scripted it that way. Also, if the NBA wanted to maximize their audience for the finals, they would have had Cleveland overcome the seemingly invincible Celtics, thus setting up a Lebron vs. Kobe final. Nobody would be able to resist the temptation of Lebron, still young and perhaps destined to be the best player ever to strap shoes on his feet, against Kobe, who has solidified his spot as one of the all-time legends.
