  1. Striker9, if you need some credits you should participate in the next credit givaway I will be holding soon. Check the hosted members forum occasionally to see when it will be up.

I believe the reason for this is that OpaQue wants the domain to cost 250 HOSTED credits. It is really a shame because hosted credits are so much more difficult to obtain than non-hosted credits. I could collect 250 non hosted credits in a week if I tried...

Unless there's a different algorythm - the only difference is that hosted credits get deducted once a day. In that case, I'm quite happy to emulate when I pay for it. Instead of x credits, I'd need x + days since signed up.

  2. Due to the way the credit system is designed, when you apply and get approved your credits get reset to a specific number rather than subtracted. That is why we recommend users to apply for hosting once they have enough credits and not to continue on after they've applied until after they're approved. I'm not sure if this design will be re-designed in the future, though.

    I never quite saw that.
So, what happens to someone like me, who's looking at getting a .com as well as the 2nd package? I've been saving up so I could get both at once. I don't mind having to get the domain first, then getting another 30-40 credits, but I won't be happy if I have to get the 2nd package, then lose the credits and have to get the domian after.

  3. This is an interesting prospect, and I played with it for quite some time. In the end, I realised that most people won't stay long enough to change themes so it wouldn't matter so much.

There's a few ways to do it. I went and made a page, then put php include tags everywhere. For example,

    <?php include ("pages/news.php"); ?><?php include ("pages/home.php"); ?>
These contained the raw data for the pages. Using variables in the url, I was able to change theme and page according to what the user wanted.

  4. You'd be amazed just by how many people *don't* know what Firefox is yet! They are totally content with IE, and why shouldn't they be? As far as the general population is concerned, IE goes onto the internet and surfs it. That's speaking on-behalf of the internet-enabled general population. The people who don't care how well the pc works, as long as it works and does what they want it to. Who don't know what the hell HTML/CSS/PHP, apache, mime-types, etc etc is. They run Nortans and never defragged in their life. Why should they know or care?

  5. If you've got Vista 32-bit, your wasting your time with the 4gb memory. The most you'll get is 3.2gb, due to the limitations of 32-bit architecture. This is the entire reason for 64-bit computing. It's not really any speed difference, but you can address far more memory (2TB if I remember right)

  6. Using a memory stick or a CD might sound like a good idea, but essentially it's not. CD's have problems keeping thier data secure, and memory sticks are easy to lose, plus its hard to know where things are put, on which stick, and it's also somewhat slow. There's nothing better then buying another hard drive for backup at these days. They are getting cheaper as the days go on, for now.$145 (AUS) for a 500gb drive? That's just a steal!

  7. Manually install them just make sure you don't install "Windows Genuine somin, somin..." Thats the big problem that one update, it all comes down to legal windows feel free, illegal windows don't touch the stuff!

As I said, WGA is bad for everyone.
There's been people who's got thier pc assembled, installed a legal Vista, tried to activate. Next thing they know, they have a black screen, with an IE page open so that people can 'buy' Vista again.

And then, WGA has a poor detection rate of pirated copies anyway.

  8. Well if the computer isn't connected to the internet or networked in any way AT ALL, you probably don't. However, most people who use automatic updates are connected, are they not?Personally I'd avoid the WGA stuff. It's no where near accurate, there's plenty of people who've been wrongly accused as using pirated software when they are 100% legal (Sound like anyone else you know? Maybe the RIAA? :D). There's no need for Microsoft to run 20 checks to see if my serial isn't pirated, this is exactly what activation is for in the first place!

  9. And now it keeps bringing up a bad download. Doesn't like me either :D

    Try a different file uploader...

edit: I found this topic http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

    PROBLEM FIXED.

How? I've downloaded Uniblue's Registry Booster 2, ran a full scan, cleaned up the registry, problem fixed.

However, I'd like this topic to remain here so that other people might benefit from it. My apologies for not reading the pinned topic that contained the link to Registry Booster.
