  1. The website http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ claims to hav a quick fix for getting rid of your depression by regulating your vitamin B intake. Personally I think it's crap because I could't find any scientific explanation that sounds valid for me. Has anyone heard (or even tried) this?I also heard that mind-training is probably the best way to get rid of a depression (so no vitamins), unless there's evidence of some biologic disorder. Does anyone know if that's true?

  2. This was in the news today (local news channel):

A small bit of research is indicating that zero-calorie sweeteners could be making it harder for you to lose weight. How? By tricking your body into thinking sweetness doesn't mean extra calories. Basically, they're saying these artificial substitutes could make it a little harder to gauge caloric intake (which could lead to gaining weight). In addition, they're also pointing to a loose connection between high sales of diet soda and a rise in obesity. Considering the widespread use of sweeteners now in such drinks, they may not be too far off the mark. But naturally, companies producing these sweetener products call this study irrelevant. For one, it used lab rats -- and a very small number as well. Less than 30 rats were used to test these claims, causing one dietitian to say it does a disservice to the consumer. The weight gain observed in lab rats may not have any relevance to humans, after all, but it won't keep people from debating the effectiveness of artificial sweeteners.

What are your thoughts about it? I personally think that as long as you know what you're doing, you're playing safe. Maybe you shouldn't use sweetners if you don't know anything at all about healthy foods.

  3. Have you guys heard of the shampoo RESDAN. It works for me but I had to stop using is because it's quite expensive. Head 'n Shoulders doesnt work for me, unless I use it every single day. 4. Your body will change and change and change because you are getting older and EVERYthing changes. Sorry, but that's a fact of life.As for treatment, I've read a number of reports recently that claim that an increase in regular (as in daily) dairy-product intake (milk, yogurt, etc) will help reduce the signs of PMS. Other than that, there are homeopathic treatments (look for Hyland's Brand products) available in your local health food store (or online) that claim to help. I advice their PMS Reliever; it helps cramps for many, but doesn't do much for mood swings - but then again, everyone is different. Give it a try - the worst that will happen is you'll be out a couple of bucks.Mike

  5. There are several substances that causes tightness of the airways like caffeine containing beverages such as coffee, tea, sodas and chocolates. If U have taken these then U cld go into an asthmatic like attacks. Inhaled irritants are another. The attack in here is preceeded by series of cough and then the tightness of breathing happens.Emotions trigger the release of some hormones that tighten airways. When the emotion is controlled, problem is corrected. One cause though, not known to many, is dehydration. The lung is one portal where water is lost from the body. This is noticeable when one breathes out on a mirror or glass. A mist forms. When the body runs short of water, the airways partly closes to conserve water. This causes wheezing and difficulty of breathing. So when water is taken, the body is rehydrated, the airways won't need to conserve water and so opens up for more breathing. U being pregnant share water that U take with ur baby. The baby needs more water than U because he is growing fast to catch up with his development. So episodes of having mild breathing difficulties are common and lots and lots of water is often the answer.Mike

  6. if you are going to give samples (which is usually the best way to get sales) you have to purchase them after your start up kit is depleted...you also have to buy your own catalogs. Most distributors do buy some product because it makes it easier to sell...some people will impulse buy because you have the product there in front of them and they are looking for a miracle. In my opinion, you would be better off getting a job at the convenience store down the road if you are looking for a dependable income. Herbalife as with all other sales type jobs is hit or miss.....and there are alot more misses than there are sales.Mike

  7. LISTEN TO YOUR BODY. I promise you that will come in handy one day. When your body is telling you that you are hungry, you will NOT gain weight if you eat until you're content. Fat people eat when they're bored, happy, sad, or whatever excuse they can come up with! And they eat until they're uncomtortable!I'm not sure yow old you are, but did you know that you will grow until you are 21? So I believe your mom is right when she says you are still a growing boy, and it IS normal to eat a lot. If you're in your teens, you should drink 3 glasses of any kind of milk daily, lots of veggies (frozen are fine, or uncooked, or steamed) and protein. (Lean beef, fish, chicken, turkey, eggs.)Mike

  8. sounds suspicious. doctors who look at xrays are very talented people. if they suspect something, dont delay. maybe it can be stopped before it spreads anywhere else. my mom had a routine colonoscopy and was diagnosed with colon cancer, had bowel surgery and was back to normal routine within 2 months. if she had ignored it, she wouldnt be here today. please encourage your dad to go for further testing. they may do a bronchoscopy (run a light down) to get a good look and take some biopsies. thats an out pt procedure and they can determine if it is for sure cancer and what kind.Mike

  9. BMI is very inaccurate and is an outdated tool developed by the government to track statistical data. It does not take into account body composition, so most elite athletes with extra muscle mass and little bodyfat will register high on the scale, and anorexics low on the scale. The best thing to do is get your bodyfat percentage tested. You can do this yourself with hand calipers, or find someone to do it for you (many health clubs have this service). Impedence scales and other such devices are very inaccurate, so calipers are your most accurate and viable means (total water immersion is actually the most accurate but not viable for most people).Mike

  10. for me personally, its closer to home my nephew just recently died from aids and he wasnt able to tell me and my sis, mainly because of the shame and ever since he died i've become more aware of how he felt and i want to make a difference in other people lives who are dealing with this because it would mean alot to me and also i think it would bring me closer to my nephew eventhough he's no longer around.Mike

  11. Start out by doing 3 - 5 sets of regular push-ups and do as many as you can in each set. The key is to work the muscle until muscle failure. This forces the muscle to become stronger. Rest for only 30 sec. between sets. Then do another 3 - 5 sets with your legs raised onto a chair, as many as you can in each set with 30 sec. rest between sets. Do these at least every other day. It won't be long before you see a change in the amount of push-ups that you are able to do.Incorporate a exercise routine using weights to strengthen the back. When doing pull-ups the back muscles are very important.Mike

  12. I respect your intentions but:You cant - its just not possible and not healthy to try. i think instead of having a weight goal you should have a "healthy goal". if you're interested in losing weight then i would suggest changing your diet and doing at least 30minutes of exercise everyday. remember weight loss wont happen over night and it wont happen by exercise alone. if you want to lose weight and be healthy then you need to make healthy lifestyle choices. if you want to slim down and get more toned then i would suggest taking yogs or pilates - they are both overall body workouts.good luck!Mike

  13. Disturbing. :o Did you know 70 percent of the time, ice from fast food restaurants is dirtier than toilet water. A newspaper recently reported:The 12-year-old collected ice samples from five restaurants in South Florida -- from both self-serve machines inside the restaurant and from drive-thru windows. She then collected toilet water samples from the same restaurants and tested all of them for bacteria at the University of South Florida. In several cases, the ice tested positive for E. coli bacteria, which comes from human waste and has been linked to several illness outbreaks across the country. Mike
