Weird Google Map Result swim across atlantic ocean
Dearster replied to jlhaslip's topic in General Discussion
That is hilarious, been trying a few more and every single one comes up as Swim across.... still. Nice find though, Yea google are well known for their funny creations and pranks etc, most famously their April Fools Day Jokes. -
I currently have 4 Megabytes per Second internet connection and this is fast enough for all the things i wish to do on the internet such as surfing forums, downloading etc. Any increased speed on my internet connection i dont think would make a visable difference accept for a increased download speed obtained. These speeds although impressive are also rediculous, why would anyone need a 9+ Gigabyte per second connection speed. You could download my entire pc hard-drive filled up with files with that connection in a matter of a few minutes.Patrick

Is Text Messaging/chatrooms Slang Ruining Academic Writing
Dearster replied to Saint_Michael's topic in General Discussion
From my own experiences in exams i have before written the odd few words in slang or text talk although after reading back through my work these mistakes have been corrected.Exams always leave enough time for corrections and reading through as long as you plan your time correctly and this is a key aspect of exam technique.Through this experience i think that chat room slang/ text talk is not ruining academic writing. Students and other people in all aspects of business etc should know the difference between writing professionally in a formal way and writing in a casual form with friends over the internet etc. For me personally i think i can type quicker using proper english and no slang than i can using text talk and slang. Using msn and other instant messaging, chat rooms, mobiles i always use proper english and no slang. Therefore this can be easily interpretated and no mistakes are made when reading it.People who write in text lmessaging languages and other forms of shorthand are acceptable in such places as socialising with friends over the internet but should not be used in circumstances such as exams and other formal circumstances. There is one form of shorthand which i cannot stand, interpret and have no clue how the writer thinks this is a quciker and easier way of typing. This is leet where the person uses Numbers to replace certain letters such as 50PH13 instead of Sophie. I can't understand how this language is easier to use compared to typing normally. Although i feel it is a matter of image for some people who write it and these people wish to look "cool" over the internet.Patrick -
I am very interested in this skin as i feel the Windows XP theme is a bit dated and in need of a radical change on my computer although i have been hearing from friends and relatives who have been using Windows Vista that the software is full of bugs and that it is not worth purchasing until the Service Pack 2 comes out for release where hopefully the majority of the bugs will have been fixed. I am wondering whether this skin will have the bugs incorporated into the software to the extent of the real Windows Vista has?I was also wondering is it a complete Windows Vista look and design across all aspects of the start menu, desktop, programmes etc or is it just a desktop skin? Thanks,Patrick

Know About Any Free And Legal Music Downloads?
Dearster replied to sweet_princess's topic in Software
In this world most people wish to get paid and get paid a profit for the job which they carry out. Going by this theory i would expect that there is a very limited supply of free legal music available to download on the internet. Unless it is a new up and coming band which is releasing free singles just for the promotion which it will develop although i have seen free singles available on websites such as Bon Jovi although it is not normally the whole feature song but instead a 30 second clip for the user to get a taster of the song and hopefully be encouraged to purchase the single or the whole album when it is released. The likeliness of a highly rated band releasing free singles onto the internet for legal downloads is therefore remotely low if it exists at all.I wish you luck in your search for this free legal material although i would not waste your time doing so.If you do come across such a site however make sure you post it on here for all to see, Patrick -
I think it is classed as illegal as far as i'm aware of making money out of a free service is illegal although as for paid memberships like on such runescape member accounts i'm not sure where the law falls into place.Although as for runescape i know they are pretty strongly against members and non members who go against the rules of the game, and i know people myself who have been banned for such acts as leading new players into the wilderness just to profit from their items, which is now a new rule which has been introduced. So the act of profitting from their company is probably one of the most highly frowned acts in runescape from a Jagex point of view. The game is highly moderated by moderators and jagex staff and bans are very frequent so its quite a high chance you will get caught and banned, or IP banned. Not sure whether it is illegal though.Patrick

Well, Yesturday i reached the target needed to transfer these Ipoints into the ?15.00 HMV e-voucher which i wanted. This target was 60000 points which took me around a few weeks of answering 5 minute surveys every other day. The testandvote.com company send you a voucher code in an email which is sent to you via the email you supplied once registering. Please note that this HMV voucher is only one of a handful of companies you can transfer your ipoints into. The code you recieve in the email is used on the HMV website and they send you the products. The testandvote.com website states:Once your voucher's order has been placed, it should take between 3 or 4 weeks for you to receive it.Although it also said that it would take me 3-4 weeks to recieve the points after every survey i had taken and the actual time period it took was a week.So that's the website explained fully i think,Anything else you want to know just leave a post and ill get back to you,Patrick

My Inventions Please post your opinions on my inventions
Dearster replied to seez's topic in Science and Technology
They are all creative for one, but none of them will ever take off i dont think. The fly swatter for instance, it is going around in a circle in a certain area, quite unlikely that it will ever swat any flies and fulfill its purpose. Nice idea to combine two objects into one, but i dont think they will work. -
Well, I use Gmail as my main email provider, and after reading this topic i decided to check out inbox.com as i've heard it being talked about before.....Please someone tell me why does it need credit card details if its free!?!?!?!? This does not make sense at all....So i've decided to stick with Gmail which i have had for ages, since you needed an invite to use it and no problems as of yet :unsure:Also with Gmail i recieve very little spam messages unlike places like hotmail and yahoo, and will never run out of space by the looks of things, still only using 2% and this space is getting bigger daily.Highly recommend Gmail to anyone that has not already got it.

Your Funniest Movie Moments Ever What is the funniest movie clip?
Dearster replied to Moolkye's topic in General Discussion
In my opinion nothing can beat the Shaun Of The Dead and Hott Fuzz films, some of the lines in that film are top notch comedy, couldnt stop laughing throughout both films. Highly recommended for anyone that hasnt already seen them. -
I for one can't wait for the Football Manager Live to come out. Ill definately be paying to play, sounds good how you can play against people all around the world. Seen the screenshots for it and the graphics and gameplay looks pretty good too. Seems well worth the "price of a few beers" SiGames say it will cost.

Dell Or Hp ? Which is the best computer brand you prefer ?
Dearster replied to Inspiron's topic in General Discussion

I found out this survey site the other day, Testandvote.com, They send you surveys which you can participate in via email, and for taking these surveys you recieve points, once you have a certain amount of points you can transfer them into HMV vouchers and other similar vouchers for well known stores. The site sends you roughly a survey a day and if you do it you recieve points, the more you do, the more you recieve. The highest paid survey ive done so far was worth about 10000 point which is worth about ?2.50 but it only took me about 5 minutes to complete. Good little earner to get DVDS and CDS free.
