Well, there are a lot. The last one I can remember of is from ARistotle. He says in his "Politics" something like this: "The biggest crimes are not committed in order to cover basic necesities, but to obtain futile things". I don't know what the right translation in English would be, but my point is set, i guess.

The most stupid thing I have ever read is a book by Paulo Coelho, "The Alchemist" or something like that. I did not know who the guy was, so I took it and started reading it. Shame on me. I am sure that a Telephonic Guide is more interesting and better written.

Normally, movies made after very good books disappoint me. For example, "The Count of Montecristo" was really awful. If I had not read the book, pehaps I would have found it different. I beleive there are books that most remain as books, because making a good movie about them is impossible. Making a good movie about "The Karamazovi Brothers" would be a superhuman task. Also a movie about the Divine Comedy..., the Illiad, etc.

I did. It's a wonderful book. You can read it just as any other story or you can try to read it in a more philosophical way.

There is nothing to understand in any of Paulo Coelho's books. They are for people who simply have never read a single word about philosophy or REAL literature. His ideas are just too simple and naive. But they seem to be amazing discoveries for those who have never had a real idea. Coelho's books are excellent for those who will never read a real book. So, don't bother yourself. Just do not call that LITERATURE, please.

Hello. Since most of you are native english speakers (and readers), I wanted to ask you a question. We all know english, french, italian, russian and german classics (by classics I mean not the greek nor the roman but the most important books from the Middle Ages and until the end of the XIXth century) like Shakespeare, Dante, Goethe, Schiller, Stevenson, Defoe, Dickens, Hugo, Moli?re, etc. But what about the spanish-speaking classical Authors? I beleive -tell me if I am wrong- that outside the spanish-speaking world the most famous spanish-speaking Authors are from the XXth century -like Garc?a M?rquez, Borges, Cort?zar, etc-. Have you read any book written by a classical spanish-speaking author? If you have, what do you think about spanish classical literature? And If you haven't, what is the main reason?

I have read hundreds of books (in Spanish, only a few in english), most of them by european authors. For me the best book ever written is "The Karamazovi brothers" by Dostoievski. You should really read it if you have not. For me it was trully a discovery. It changed my life.
