This is great stuff! IMHO, you should submit it as a tutorial when we get finished. I know I'm not the only one who could use this info. My friend, with the other brand, paid somebody $50 to set hers up, and somebody else over there wants one, too.Suz -
Free Message Board Needs Php Can I have it?

Yikes! I never thought about that, but my sites are all small, special-interest sites, so I don't expect to ever have more that 5 or 6 posts in one day. Thanks for the heads-up. Suz -

I have been approved for hosting, here, and it looks like I'm eligible for an upgrade to 150MB, so all I have to do is make it happen. YEE-HAH! I have a lot to learn, but I think I can do it. I'll let you know when I'm ready or if I run into problems along the way. Thanks again. Suz -

Will do--thanks again. BTW, how much space will this take up? I'm thinking of combining the message boards for all 4 of my sites into this one. I don't get much traffic, so I don't expect much action. I get 20MB of space here, free, right? Will that be enough if I don't put anything else here except my forums? Is that okay with Xisto or would I be abusing my rights here Suz -

Terrific. Thanks. phpBB it is. Hopefully, I'll be able to start on it, tomorrow. Right now I'd better figure out how to get a site activated over here, so I'll be up to speed on that part before I try to tackle the BB. Suz -

Terrific. Now all I have to do is figure out how to put it all together, which means I'll probably be back with lots of dumb questions. Thanks. -
I found a free message board for my site, where I can have my Google ads there, instead of Proboards ads, but it requires PHP, which I know nothing about. I don't believe my host, Doteasy.com, supports PHP on its free sites. Does Xisto? If so, could I host my message boards, here, and link from my Doteasy site? The software I'm looking at is YABB. Here's the link: Yet Another Bulletin Board It also mentions CHMOD and Perl--I don't know those, either. Should I give it up or is it possible for somebody like me to do this?--I do know HTML. TIA, Suz

Who Links To You? Anybody get this to work?
Fun4TheMoney replied to Fun4TheMoney's topic in Search Engines
Google treat this as one site and may even detract from your rating if you link to yourself like that. Nils 68307[/snapback] Well isn't that just ducky! Can't win fer losin'. Thank you for the explanation. I guess I'll concentrate on link-swapping and forget about seo, since I'm certainly not going to sever connections among my family of sites. Suz -
Who Links To You? Anybody get this to work?
Fun4TheMoney replied to Fun4TheMoney's topic in Search Engines
When I do a search on "Fun4TheMoney" all of my sites come up, since I link to that site from all of the others, but when I do a "link:fun4themoney.com" search, none of them come up. If my ranking depends on who links to me, but none of my linked sites turn up in their search, how am I ever going to get anywhere? Has anybody else tried this? Do your links show up? Suz -
Our son had his eBay account hijaked, yesterday. It took him almost a half day to get it sorted out. A heads-up buyer got suspicious of an auction for a snowmobile requiring a $1,000 deposit, so he found our son's phone # and called before paying. The listing did NOT belong to our son. Once the perp got our son's eBay password, he also hacked his email account, which used the same password. That took another half hour to sort out. This buyer told our son there has been a rash of these hijakings, lately. Obviously eBay isn't as secure as we thought. If any of you have accounts with eBay, and use the same password, there, that you use anywhere else, it might be time to change some passwords and make them all different.(I hope this was the right place to post this--if not, I apologize.)Suz

While snooping around on Google, I found the "Who Liks To You?" feature. (link:URL). I know of at least 6 sites that link to me, but none of them show up when I use that option. I wrote to Google about it. They sent me an okay response that gave me some other interesting info, but still didn't explain why none of my link sites show up in the Who Links feature, when all of those sites show up in a regular search, so Google knows where they are. (They're all real domains--not subdomains, but they're small, no-traffic-yet sites.)Anybody else have any experience or additional info on this?Suz

Thanks for the quick answer. It looks like two code boxes with yours, too. Maybe I'll just put all that on a separate page and link to it. That way, anybody who likes my little photos but doesn't want to fool with the code, can just link to it, without seeing all that stuff. I may look for a real puzzle program, too, since these really aren't puzzles at all. Thanks again. Suz

Today I was playing with some of my digital photos and came up with a cute little puzzle picture, using the mouse over feature. I got the brilliant idea to publish it as a "picture of the week" and give it away as a nice way to get links back from other sites. Unfortunately, when I tested it on another computer, it doesn't work because I didn't include the <head> data. Now I'm concerned that it's going to get so complicated I'll just frustrate any beginning webmasters who try to use it. Shoud I add another code box with the header stuff in it? Is there an easier way? Am I asking for trouble and should just let them link to my photos instead? Is it stupid and I should just forget about it and move on? Any other ideas? Here's the link, so you can see what I'm trying to do and where I went wrong. Puzzle Picture TIA for your help. Suz

I'd like to offer some of my digital photos as syndicated image feeds, but when I search on that term, all I get is porn and lottery sites. Maybe I'm calling this the wrong thing. Here's what I want to do: Offer "picture of the week" images that people can link to, once, but they update, automatically every week. I can do them all different ways--in web page templates, as banners, as puzzles (where they see a small part and have to guess what it is), etc. I tried it out as a dorky table-based template and it works fine. Here's the link, so you can get an idea of what I'm trying to do. This one is just a prototype, and not very creative, but it's the mechanics I need help with. Free Dynamic Web Page Template The way I see it, I don't need any special software. All I have to do is replace my default image every week with another one the same size and name. Right? Next question--what do I call this? I figured there'd be lots of people doing things like this, but I can't find even a single listing for it. I've searched under "picture of the week", "syndicated images", "dynamic images". Anybody else doing anything like this? HELP! Suz

Thanks again. I've had enough for one day, but I might just mess around with a different background color for the buttons, now that you've told me how. Somebody said I should get rid of the dollar signs, but I didn't like it that way, so I put them back in a little differently. Now I've looked at it way too much for one day, so I'm going to put it to bed. I saved the older versions, so I can change things back if I've gone too far the other way. Suz -

Okay, I dumped the background and added a horizontal line. I needed something to separate the article from the header stuff. NOW AM I DONE? Suz -

How can I do that for just one cell in the table? I only want that background for the weekly article--not for the buttons or title, and they're all part of the same table. Suz -
