To be fair, a random tsunami related query COULD throw up an ebay page as one of the top searches.. primarily because eBay has been advertising a tsunami disaster fund on its homepage.. and it isnt really hard to figure out why a small banner on ebay would show up as a top search. Ebay is probably one of the most frequently crawled websites.Although totally unrelated search results obviously point to the presence of spyware on your system

Looks good.. but i'll defer to Becca's judgement.. too plain. Even for a guy :rolleyes:Anyway.. since you say you'll be putting in more "frills".. I suppose I'll check back later.Btw.. were the weird cursors really necessary? And I think you could manage to shrink your right menu column without hurting your menu.. it would give you more space for the actual content. Then again.. that is just my personal opinion.

Dude! The site seriously needs to be reworked from scratch. The frames are a bad idea.. The color scheme that you've chosen is totally wrong. The google link image is tacky and sticks out liek a sore thumb. Now I know I'm being very uncharitable... but I'm fairly certain the site could look much better if you stuck to a frameless structure and a decent color scheme.Another suggestion would be to do away with the hover. You might as well use a javascript/dhtml menu. It looks way better.I agree with michaleq.. there's a place for transparent images.. and your site isnt it. -
Uh.. yeah I suppose being at the top has its hazards. However, I have to agree that the overall search result quality seems to have gone down over the last few months. Maybe its just that people have figured out how to use SEO to their advantage.. or maybe the Google spider got a lil dumber.

There has been no official confirmation of this rumour. However all signs point to the possibility of Google jumping into the IM bandwagon. It already owns Hello - An IM client it acquired when it took over Picasa. The Google desktop search tool code contains reference to an IM code that supposedly allows the desktop tool to communicate with the browser. However Google officials say it is merely a protocol that communicates with AIM to make IM data searchable on the desktop.I guess we'll just have to wait a while and see if Google actually makes the move. It definitely has the pull to attract a large userbase and swing it towards Jabber.. which seems to be the obvious flavor of choice for Google. Most other IM clients seem to have moved to the SIP/SIMPLE standard. So it would be interesting to see if Google follows suit and joins SIP or leans towards Jabber. The latter would obviously be a big boost for beleaguerd Jabber.. but will fragment the marketplace even more.

Personally, I'm miffed at hotmail. I no longer use it.. although I do have my account. MSN seems to have screwed up somehow and failed to upgrade the inbox size of India based accounts. I'm still stuck at 2 MB while everyone seems to have 250 MB of free space. I obviously have an issue with this. That apart, I find hotmail servers to be fairly unreliable. My mails seem to take days to get to the other end at times.. and that plain sucks. And apparently I have to pay for EACH incoming message when I hook my cell up with MSN. Whats up with that crap? I know it would be easy to shift blame to the cellular service provider.. but the same service provider works fine with Yahoo.. for free (incoming messages).I use both gmail and yahoo for different reasons. Gmail gives me a gig of free space along with pop access. I could argue about the pros and cons of having pop access. However, since this is more of a personal opinion... the reason I love pop access is because I'm lazy. I dont want to fire up my browser and wait for the inbox to load each time I want to check my email. One click access RULES!!Yahoo! offers me a great email service along with the option to use a host of services with a single id. More power to the likes of Yahoo! As for Hotmail... BOO!

While on the topic.. Gmail does not seem to place text/banner ads in emails that you download to your desktop. I suppose that is a good thing. Even the advertising in the gmail inbox seems to be within limits. On the whole, I don't mind having to endure a few text ads in my webmail inbox. The pop mail is thankfully free of any linkage.Cheers!

Gmail's pop3 access feature is being given away in parts to all account holders. That is.. if you signed up for an account before me, you'll get pop access before I do. It seems fair enough. Keep checking your inbox for a "New Features" link.I've been using mine for over a month and a half now... maybe more. You don't have to download all emails that exist in your gmail account before the date when your pop access is enabled. It offers you an option to download only those mails that arrive subsequently. Then again there is the option to save a copy of every email that you recieve in your gmail inbox while you download a copy to your computer. This seems to be the smart thing to do. You can delete your copy of the downloaded email in case it seems to take up space. Gmail will still have a copy if you ever need it.There seems to be a slight glitch with the pop3 servers though. The connection times out once in a while. This however is fairly minor.. and I'm not about to crib about it.. considering that I've paid a grand sum of zilch to get a gig of online storage space with an option to recieve my emails right on my desktop.
