All of us know IE diplays everything(almost) OK>May be there are security loopholes which does not affect a normal user much. And let me speak something towards the mozilla fuss over there:Mozilla isn't perfect. There are drawbacks. First, it is a separate download (https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/) of about 12MB. If you want Java support, that's another download. Flash and shockwave are still more additional downloads. Still, if you have broadband, it's not a big deal. Dial-up users will always need a friend burn a CD.The biggest drawback, however, is there are sites out there that are programmed to work only with IE. A few sites even will refuse you entry unless you are using IE even though they work with Mozilla at least partially. The prefbar addon for Mozilla allows you to easily impersonate IE and can help with such sites. This isn't a failing of Mozilla, but a failure of the webmasters to follow the web standards. However, you, as a Mozilla user, still have to deal with it. Sites that use ActiveX, which is a security disaster (ActiveX is what makes the drive-by-downloading and a host of other problems possible), won't work properly with Mozilla, although there is an obscure plugin to support ActiveX in Mozilla. Considering the security aspect, this really is more of a benefit. And for Netscape, let's be honest, they lost all hope of competing and now using IE's rendering engine.(They openly declare it while installing on your computer; if you have IE already installed)

Freeservers.com offers free webhosting with all builtin scripts like polls, guestbooks, form-emailer, message board and what not! Ofcourse, most others also do. But I am telling about FreeServers as they have managed to get good reviews on some reviewing websites.Once you register for a subdomain there, they give you :yourname.freeserver.comyourname.4t.comyourname.5m.com ..and such stuff. You register one and see there are no ADs at all!And this continues for a week. By that time most probably you have advertised your new website everywhere. Now the pain begins! They start with a banner link at top of your page. It may show something as simple as "get your own free site.." and a tiny searchbox. OK.Wait for another month and one more banner appears below that(still on top of your page).Few days after that, one banner at the bottom of your page.(Pathetic, isn't it?)Survive few days more, and you have a vertical (with a CLOSE button though) tower AD on right/left side of your page. Headache begins. Now you wont dare open your homepage again! If you do you will see atleast one POP-UP and one POP-UNDER AD along with the others.Desperate, you will look for an alternative and of course come to Xisto.

Yahoo Submission Feed Generator For Site Submit in yahoo, need url feed.
drk002 replied to ivenms's topic in Search Engines
Don't go for an automatic feeder. Often search engines treat it as a bed practice. Better go and feed it manually. The benefits you get are enormous:1-No chance of search engines suspecting your site.2-You can feed it better when done manually. -
It would be very much helpful if we can make a detailed documentation/user guide for Xisto. That should include:1-Logging in, posting, getting approval for hosting.2-Setting up account3-How to use the cpaneletc. In my opinion, that should be an all-in-one document which can give answer to all of our queries. And that would contain screen-shots wherever possible.(I have phpbb used guide in my mind while writing this).I believe everybody will be interested to keep a copy printed for referrence. If the Mod/Admin says, we, users can initiate the work.

For a few years till now, DHTML and Javascripts reigned the industry when it comes to any visual effect on a website like link-mouseover, pop-up, scrolling etc. There are lots of sites offerring these scripts for free for readymade use on personal sites. As all the above can be done today with php and css, can someone tell me whether Javascript is worth using for these perpose any more?

Altavista is nice and they have a unique search algorith I believe. You can see the matching results in Google and Yahoo but never with Altavista. And as per my personal feeling, Altavista gives more properly oriented results, not merely the pages with the keywords on it.One reason for this may be that they have a large human workforce. Even Yahoo search results were very good as they primerily used human workforce for content filtering. One more thing about Altavista is it's translation engine "BabelFish". Google translation is far behind this. You can check for yourself. And also Altavista's BabelFish has huge number of language support which google lacks. Again when you translate a page on BabelFish and click any links on the translated page, it automatically translates the target page which is a headache in Google's translator.

Windows Vista dees not necessarily need hardware upgrade. We had tried it on our average machines and it performed well. Though many companies are selling computers(and hardware) with a "windows vista compatible" tag, that is only for sales promotin and nothing else. Believe me, Vista runs perfectly ok ( along with the bugs in the trial version) on a p4 machine.

Hi,Google has gone one step forward with it's mapping service and started http://wikimapia.org/. All of us must be knowing what a "wiki" is. Anyway it's a public repository of knowledge where users are allowed to change/modify it as per their wish. For a better description you can go to http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ to wikimapia, it's a real wiki in the sense all the map details(locations ofcourse) can be changed as per your wish.So you can just put a caption for " my sweet home" on your building(if visible though) and send the link to anyone else who needs the navigation. Moreover, the modifications are reflected on the site immediately. And it's observed that the whole earth is going to be filled up with "my sweet home"s only. Though the maps are not of the quality that googleearth shows(sometimes different image altogether!) the site is extreamely fast. It has been assumed that Goole is collecting the data users enter on the map and feeding it to their commercial mapping database at the back-end.Afterall this has been a Gogle strategy for years.

Malicious JavaScript can be embedded in a Web page and will run without warning when the page is viewed in any ordinary browser. It will bypass security measures such as a firewall because it runs through the user's browser. So if you are suspecting any malicious ting while " simply browsing", just close the browser or go to another website. If the symptom stops, be sure that the site was attempting(or successfully done) an attack.
