  1. The default skin is quick to load and very easy on the eyes, obviously that must be why everybody uses it! But skins would be interesting, maybe even if just in different colors. I know a lot of oekaki poteto boards offer settings in a user's account to allow them to choose the style they'd like to see on the boards, Maybe Black and Red, Blue and White, Pink and White, ect ect. I'd imagine there's something like that for regular forums as well, and that would be kind of neat, it would allow an individual user to either stick with the easy to read default or change it to something else that suits their tastes.
  2. Differences between XP and 2000... most of them have already been answered, but here's my view: Windows 2000 is NT 5.0- XP is NT 5.1 Not even a full version difference. XP has a fancier more "user friendly" (If that's what you want to call it) interface, while 2000 looks more like the traditional Windows. XP also has more features, but I find it to be a resource hog on some older machines, especially when there isn't enough RAM. 2000 is compatable with almost everything XP is, often times you'll see on system requirements Windows 2000/XP, although that's changing now with more programs devoting themselves to specifically be used on XP machines only. I find 2000 is a little easier on "older" machines. As mentioned in the other posts, XP does have more features built in. XP tends to be a little annoying when it comes to the whole "genuine windows" thing and having to talk to Microsoft every time you have to reinstall it. With Win2k, you just enter your key and you're set to go when you install it, just like other previous versions of Windows, which is useful when you have to reformat and reinstall for some reason. BUT... now Windows Update seems to check both XP and 2k to see if they're valid before allowing you to download updates. So either get a genuine version or find a copy of SP4 on a CD. As for security, it's all very similar to XP I guess, but it's been around a bit longer, I believe the final Service Pack is Service Pack 4, and if you know how to secure your machine (Anti-virus, anti-spyware tools, setting your browser security settings to high, firewall ect) Windows 2000 seems to be pretty tight. I don't believe I've ever had anything nasty on my Windows 2000 machine, then again, sometimes it's simply knowing what websites not to go to and what programs not to download. So either way, as long as you have a good antivirus, your security settings locked up tight, and all the patches and updates installed ect ect, either version should be just as secure. If you want to stay more up to date, have more compatability with upcoming programs, I'd say go with XP, but again, I cannot stress this enough... Security, Security, Security! Windows isn't going to secure itself, TRUST ME, you need to put a little work into it!But anywho, I think XP is annoying, and since I'm not big into gaming and most of my programs are a few versions behind anyway, I use good ol' stable, reliable Win2k.
  3. Foamy is pretty darn funny, but I'd have to go with Salad Fingers. I don't know why, my family all look at me like I'm crazy when I show it to them... well maybe I am just a little crazy. 'Nettles' is probably my favorite... the grunts and sounds that armless dude with the BBQ apron just crack me up.It's hard to explain... you never know what's going to happen in Salad Fingers. It's all just weird and somewhat random, dark, twisted, yet hilarious at the same time. I just love the way he words things... and I have a strange sense of humor... okay, so maybe it's not so hard to explain. As for Foamy... the first Foamy cartoon I saw was 'Tech Support', and it never fails to make me laugh, over and over again. So in a way, they're both winners in my book.
  4. I totally agree, I ordered the free cd's online earlier this year, installed it on both my PC and my laptop. It's great, runs very fast on my old laptop, was pretty easy to install alongside with my existing Win2k installation, and has great online support forums. I only wish I had waited a few months before ordering it- I've got Breezy, and just as I start getting into it, Dapper came out Anywho, congrats to Ubuntu!
  5. Here's a pretty useless yet somewhat fun trick to rename the window title in IE- I've only tried this out on Win2k and Windows XP running IE6. I discovered it one day while curiously searching through the registry to see if I could change the "Internet Explorer provided by Abbot Laboratories" on my laptop (It's an ancient hand-me-down from my uncle) This is a fairly safe trick. As long as you stick to the instructions here and don't go messing around with other Registry entries, you should be fine. However, just to be safe, you should always back-up your registry before doing any kind of manual editing. 1. Open the Registry Editor Start -> Run -> type in regedit 2. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\INTERNET EXPLORER\Main NOTE: If the Window Title key already exists, you can skip step 3. 3. Right click somewhere in the right panel and choose new String Value. Name it Window Title 4. Double click on Window Title and where it says "Value data" put whatever you want your IE window title to say- For example, you could put something like "Bob's Magical Internet Explorer!" or maybe something slightly less lame. When you've made up your mind, hit ok. 5. Now open up IE and behold your own custom window title located to the right of whatever the name of the website you're viewing is. If you decide later you'd rather stick to the default "Microsoft Internet Explorer" title, just go back delete the Window Title value.
  6. Yeah, anybody on a "budget" interested in the Starter Edition? It allows you to run a limit of 3 applications at once! WOW! What a deal. Not really. Actually, there's no "great deal" with Vista. It just hides it's true self under it's bloated, pretty face. How about that DRM? Boy, that sure sounds fun. Not really. In fact, that is the one reason why I refuse to put Vista on any of my machines when it comes out. I won't pay to have MY computer tell me how and what media can be played. Heck, they could give it to me for free and I still wouldn't use it... except for maybe using the disc as a coaster... or a frisbee.
