  1. I think the main issue with the XBox 360s is user stupidity. Neither me nor any of my friends have been affected by the 'issues' with the 360s. I have read that alot of people are have problems but I think the problems are isolated. The reason the stories are everywhere is due to excessive media attention. Besides, if a user has issues with the 360, Microsoft will pay overnight shipping to and from the repair center. I think Microsoft has done well as far as hardware goes; software (games) are a different issue.

  2. Make sure you have drivers for you network card. To check, right-click My Computer, left-click Properties, left-click Hardware, left-click Device Manager. If there are any devices with a yellow exclamation or yellow question mark then there is a problem and reinstalling the drivers would probably fix it. If you got a driver cd with your laptop you could use that to restore the drivers or you could always go online and download the drivers.

  3. Your best bet to stay in a reasonable price range is SATA. It is faster that IDE and it supports faster rotation speeds. Look at the Western Digital Raptors. They connect with SATA and rotate at 10000 rpms. If you want even faster than that you should look into making a hardware RAID 0.

  4. Linksys Dual-Band Wireless A/G Media Center Extender WMCE54AG - digital multimedia receiver -- by Linksys
The Linksys Dual-Band Wireless A/G Media Center Extender lets you bring the digital entertainment available through and stored on your Windows Media Center PC to your Home Entertainment Center, without running cables through the house. Using a Wireless-A, Wireless-G, or wired Ethernet connection, the Media Center Extender displays home-made or downloaded digital movies and your digital photographs on the TV for the whole family to enjoy. And your digital music collection is finally freed from those little

That will do the trick. My friend has one and he likes it alot. His HD tv is not conveniently located next to his computer so he uses this to watch recorded tv.

  5. It is not possible to have you PS2 display on your laptop's screen through your laptop's S-Video output. As you mentioned the port is an output not an input. Your only other option is to purchase a TV tuner. You would need one that is USB based. With that you could receive video input from many sources. The only issue with that solution is that you would experience a 1-2 second lag between the time you pressed a button on your controller and the time you saw the event on your laptop's screen (that would make playing games very annoying).

  6. You're right ameribass. The computer has to process all video coming in. That processing causes a delay, but it allows you to pause and record TV or anyother input (ex. PS2). I have a Happauge card in my computer and there is a 1-2 second delay on my computer when comparing it to TV. It is just something you have to deal with, but, in my opinion, is worth the trouble.

  7. A $100 laptop is great, but I think there a more important issues at hand. I think a vast majority of people that get one of the laptops will have no use for it. If these are given to anyone who has never used a computer they are pointless (I doubt there will be extensive trainings sessions on its use). Even if someone is familiar with computers, in the event that something goes wrong at all the user won't be able to troubleshoot problems. Also, the laptop will have to be sturdy enough to handle extreme conditions and for $100 that is difficult to pull off. Besides the technical difficulties other issues at hand are starvation, disease, government instablility... I think funds would be better spent by aiding countries and people by sending food, medicine, doctors, and adminstrators.

  8. Check out this site: http://winsupersite.com/article/product-review/longhorn-server-preview
I have used Longhorn out of curiosity and am thus far not too impressed. I have found that alot of features are available as addons to Windows XP. For instance: the sidebar, clock on Logon menu, IE integrated popup blocker... One of the greatest features that Longhorn was planned to be implemented with was WinFS. Sadly, WinFS has been delayed. I am sure Longhorn will be a great OS, but its delays are paving the way for Linux desktop systems to catch up with compatibilty, useability, efficiency, and popularity. Microsoft is definately trying to purge all bugs and security issues before Longhorn's release and for that I am willing to wait.

  9. I go with Firefox. Firefox is a browser and that is all I need. Mozilla Suite is nice; I have used before but only for browsing. Because I found I was using the Suite only for browsing I figured Firefox would be sufficient and it is. Futhermore, I beats IE to a bloody pulp.

  10. Linux is great. It is free of alot of problems that other operating systems have, but it also has issues (such as software compatibility). In fact, the only reason I continue to use a Microsoft operating system is because Linux operating systems lack good support for mainstream games. All of my other computer activities can easily be performed on Linux. I have not overlooked Cedega (a game emulator for Linux). It just does not work well enough. I believe Linux will continue to improve especially if major companies begin/continue to write software for the platform. The great thing about Linux is its versatility. With hundreds of distros to choose from you can find the distro that fits you best. Personally, I will continue to work toward ending Windows' usefullness in my computing experience.

  11. Most likely it is harmless to delete stuff in the virus vault. If you know how to check which files will be deleted and if they are important then you know what to do. But a good way to test if they are important is to use you computer for a few days after the files have been vaulted. If you don't run into any problems then it is probably safe to delete the quaranteened items.
