World Of Warcraft what are your thoughts on my build
fongy replied to fongy's topic in Computer Gaming
So my plan with my upcoming Priest UI, simply to create simplicity and functionality with sleek, minimal screen & memory usage. I've spent the majority of my time dabbling with UI's trying to accomplish this, and each time I get closer and closer. This may very well transform into something other than a Priest-only UI...but for the most part for the time being, this is my primary focus. It's going to again, like usual, be heavily based on Discord arrangements. Very little Discord Art used, a lot of Discord Action Bars, and Discord Unit Frames. It's going to be a lot of hidden features, and I'm really going to push the limits with Discord Action Bars to create something organic and creative. I've viewed a lot of interesting DAB arrangements, and gotten a lot of ideas from doing so. Time to put it into action. My chief concern, however, is UI Memory. System Lag is a problem when you pack in a lot of interface material. I don't have a miracle rig to play on, but what I have is sufficient. But I don't want to make something too intense because if distributed, I want it to work very well on any type of rig...since I know a lot of people have varying degree's of PC power ranging from better than mine to way worse than mine. I'm probably going to shoot for somewhere in the ballpark of 20-30mb's of memory usage...I've hovered around 50-65 for the longest time, and I want to get that down to help improve system framerates. In instances and non-draw distance intensive area's, I usually cap around 65-70 fps. In outdoor area's with a medium setting for draw distance, I range from 15-25, depending on weather & what's going on around me. With the UI hidden, the fps jumps about 10-15 fps reaching the ballpark of 25-40 fps...which is absolutely acceptable. The human eye can't really tell anything above 40-60 anyways...so it's a matter of getting it so that the gameplay isn't jittery or anything. I'm also going to be building this with a secondary class in mind (as well as keeping all classes in the back of my head while building) because I'll be soon making a PvP-based toon that I want to use to really have fun with and not focus on leveing or end-game. I haven't fully decided what class it will be yet, but it will probably lean towards Rogue...maybe simply starting up my Undead Rogue again will suffice, since it's already in the mid-30's and useable. But aside from a caster/healer standpoint, I want the capability of what I build to be able to easily work with any class. So I'll continue updating as I go. Know that the build is going to heavily be Action Bar modification, with animated & hidden things alike to help keep things minimal, functional, and aesthetically pleasing. -
Paladins are very effective at their primary role, which is mostly group support. Paladins need to be able to see what their group's weak point is, and shore it up. The playstyle is slightly less interactive that others, but that's so you can react quickly to changing battlefield. It's about situational awareness. The basic playstyle (assuming you're not playing the main tank or main healer, both of which you should be able to do, though with more difficulty than a primary class) is to make sure your group is buffed, seal up, judge if appropriate, and autoattack... then watch for what needs doing. Mob peeled off after the priest and their fade is down? Stun it until the warrior can get back under control. Patrol came up behind and starting trying to eat your main healer? Throw Blessing of Protection on the healer. Rogue taking cleave damage? Heal him. Tank rooted or snared? Blessing of Freedom on them. Rogue polymorphed? Cleanse him. It's easy to play in it's most basic form, but harder to master. If that interests you, you'll enjoy the class and probably play it effectively. As far as killing stuff solo, yes. You kill more slowly than most classes, but are so hard to kill yourself, that you'll wear down the opponent. I have no trouble soloing level 60 elites, and my gear isn't all that good since I don't particularly care for the 40-man raid format required to get the really good stuff.

I was wondering about something different than disc/holy, shadow build or tri-specced, and I ended up with this: Overall, I think this is a well-balanced build between all-out damage and healing. I find shadowform somewhat lacking in terms of group PvP, and that's what this game is about, anyway. More mana, instant spells cost less, more crit chance (ok, this is somewhat unnecessary but it's nice when it procs), and mana burn luvin' for the casters out there (shadowform wont help you much against mages, which are my archenemies). Tri-specced holy talents, umm, I find them as waste of talent points - not enough use for 9 talents points - but you're free to point me wrong if that's the case. Let me point out though that I _dont_ have any experiences from this build completed - but i'm using this build (eventhough as uncomplete as it is) as a lvl 46 UD priest and I haven't had any hard time against rogues, warriors, mages, pallies what so ever. Probably someone might ask from himself that "why go anything else that full shadow/rest to disc build before lvl 60? It's the slow way to level up". I find soloing very boring and when we don't go questing with our guild's other lvl 40+ guys, we go to get some group PvP. It would be as slow with Shadowform as without, imho Any comments, ideas? Let's hear it (And sorry if someone thinks my english is bad, it's not my main language..) Azmodeus, lvl 46 UD priest, Kor'Gall

I have no idea what is causing this problem:Any time my computer is under somewhat of a heavy task; it LAGS and slows down to a halt. Counter-Strike source cannot be open for more than a minute before the whole system completely seezes up and I have to do a cold shut-off.As soon as I log in, the windows welcome charm is all choppy as if the computer is calculating pi 1000000 times. Heck, even when someone signs into MSN the MSN charm is all staticy and choppy. When I play a video; the video audio becomes choppy, video lags, etc.I cant even move a window around or even my mouse around without it looking like I am getting 15 frames per second on the desktop LoLAnd even task-related, how long did it take to transfer 300mb from Hard-Drive 1 to Hard-Drive 2? -- 45 minutes. -- What about Microsoft Office 2007 Preview? -- Just about 40 minutes.===I figured it was the temprature of my CPU so I dusted it to perfection; I focused all the A/C in my house to just my room (now my room is 9*C), I have all fans in my case-a-blazing; and none of it helped - so it cant be a heating issue. My CPU Temp. is now at a cool 36*C and my mobo at 28*C -- And my CPU is a 550; the ones with the insane heating ordeals. Then I said it must be my video drivers; I update them to the latest ones and low and behold nothing is fixed. Later on I said it cant be the video drivers because what about the sheer performance and audio issues? So I said maybe its just the operating system, something is messed -- completely formatted (zero filled the drive, then re partitioned everything, re installed XP, installed SP2) -- dun dun -- No fix, still the same old issues with a fresh install of XP.Any ideas on what this is? it would be *GREATLY, GREATLY* appericated!

Well as we grow, so do our computers (well, mine anyway). I soon find my equipment outdated, so I decide to update! Here is my system as of now. Anything basic like a ps/2 mouse/keyboard or 3 1/2 floppy drives would be considered standard. Estimated Cost: 3000 (including maintainence, assembly and other costs) Estimated Normal Retail Cost (No maintainence, assembly and other costs): 3500 Notice from BuffaloHELP: Please refer to Xisto Readme and look under "Topics you should never make." This thread shall remain open when you place QUOTE for all specs. Otherwise it shall be closed with all credits reduced.

was having trouble with my CS:S last night and found these FAQ's really helpful ..Q-How come there are only two player models?!A-VALVe has decided to wait for an update to give us more player models. Expect the other ones in an update soon.Q-How come when I try to add a bot into my server it says that they are only available in the beta?A-VALVe has not yet enabeled the bots and forgot to remove the beta message. Expect bots in a future update.Q-What is up with the hostages? They are HUGE!!A-Yea, they appear to be huge. Through first and third-person view. We can only hope that they are scaled down in an update in the future.Q-I got hit from 2 feet behind me! Whats up with that?A-The hitboxes in CS:S are somewhat laggy. Hopefully, they will be updated or changed in a future version. For now, try to play on a server with a low ping.Q-Where are all the other maps?A-Sadly, VALVe only re-made a couple of the classic maps. They might be working on remaking other ones, but now that the official Hammer is released, expect them to be remade by users.Q-My game freezes/crashes/locks up! What should I do?!?A-Don't worry, you are not alone here. Use the Search feature to search for a thread already created about that problem.Q-My FPS is HORRIBLE! What can I do?A-Search the forums with your video card name and hope someone found a way to increase FPS already. If not, try changing all the advanced video settings.Q-Where is my CD-Key! Did I get scammed?!A-No, you did not. When purchasing games off of Steam you are not given a CD-Key, but rather, the game is "tied" to your Steam account.Q-How come I bounce off tables and chairs when I walk into them?A-This might be a bug, or it could be intentional on VALVe's part, but either way, there is one thing you can do. If you run a server, you can change these CVARs in console:sv_pushaway_forcesv_pushaway_max_forceQ-I see people saying they are using a cracked version of CS:S! Is this true!?A-Untill VALVe implements VAC (Valve Anti-Cheat) into CS:S, yes. A future update may prevent these cracked versions from working though.Q-I have an ATi coupon. How to I redeem/upgrade it?A-To redeem it, open the Browse Games window in Steam. Then, click the "Register a Product I Already Own" button on the bottom of the screen. Enter in the CD-Key behind the part you had to scratch off and you will get the Bronze HL2 package. If you wish to upgrade to Silver or Gold, open the Browse Games window and click on the "Purchase This Package" for the Silver or Gold packages. Your $49.99 will be deducted automatically from the total price.Q-How come when I add lines to config.cfg they are overwritten when I start Steam?A-Steam overwrites the config.cfg file each time it is started, to execute your own commands at start-up of CS:S, make a file called autoexec.cfg with the commands you want CS:S to execute at startup and put it in the same folder as the config.cfg.Q-Odd...I can't seem to push the table in cs_italy along with other objects?A-The physics in the game have been changed from what was seen in certain videos a while ago. At the moment, it is not possible to push some objects with your body, but they may be moveable by shooting them.Q-How come I am getting long lag freezes even though I have cable/dsl/T1?A-This is most likely caused by background applications using the internet, such as firewalls or spyware. Try running a spyware scanner or configuring your firewall to allow Steam ports.Q-What DirectX level should I run my game at?A-Directly from Gary McTaggart:DirectX 7.0 - RADEON 7200, GeForce2 MX, GeForce4 MXDirectX 8.0 - GeForce3, GeForce4 Ti, GeForce FX 5200DirectX 8.1 - RADEON 8500, RADEON 9200, GeForce FX 5700, GeForce FX 5950DirectX 9.0 - RADEON 9500 and up, RADEON X800, GeForce 6800Q-What visual difference is there between DirectX modes?A-DirectX 7.0: No model decals, no detail props, no refective water, no bumpmaps, reduced model level of detailDirectX 8.0: No local specular on water, no water blending into land, shadows are not as softDirectX 8.1: No local reflections on water, no water blending into land, soft shadowsDirectX 9.0: Water reflections, water refraction, smooth shorelines, soft shadows, blended bumpmapsQ-How can I disable the VGUI menus and go back to the old school buy menus?A-Using the "old school" text buy menus is not possible in CS:S.Q-How are other people using arabic and other symbols in their names?A-They are using the extended character set. To use these symbols, open the Character Map (Start>Run... "charmap"), and select Courier New as the font. Then, just double click on the symbols you would like to use and copy them from the box on the bottom and paste them in CS:S.Q-How come I can't see servers in the server list?A-First, try making sure you are on the internet tab, then under filters, make sure Anti-Cheat is set to All.Q-My console doesn't work.A-First check that you have it enabled. Go into Options ->Keyboard ->Advanced ->and check Enable Developers Console. Then use the ` key to open the console.Q-When I bring up the console with ` and type something the console disappears.A-This can happen if you have a non-us keyboard layout/input configued in windows. One possibility is after ` type a T, the console will stay open and you can enter commands. Or, you can set your language in windows regional settings to US - english.Q-How do I change DirectX levels?A-In your autoexec.cfg put:"mat_dxlevel 70" for DirectX 7.0"mat_dxlevel 80" for DirectX 8.0"mat_dxlevel 81" for DirectX 8.1"mat_dxlevel 90" for DirectX 9.0Or in your Launch Options put:"-dxlevel 70" for DirectX 7.0"-dxlevel 80" for DirectX 8.0"-dxlevel 81" for DirectX 8.1"-dxlevel 90" for DirectX 9.0Q-What should I set my rates to?A-Here are some good rates/guildlines:rate = 10% of your download speedcl_cmdrate = 100 is a good one for broadbandcl_updaterate = 30 is also good for broadbandQ-I get crackling sounds, especially in confined areas like hallways and tunnels. I even have a high end sound card (i.e. Audigy) it happens. How to fix it?A-In c:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\youremail\counter-strike source beta\cstrike there are some ".cache" files in there. Delete the modelsounds.cache and scene.cache files. CS:S will rebuild these when it is started agian.Q-How come I have pink/purple all over everything?A-This is most likely caused by having your AA or AF up too high. Try turning them down to a lower setting.hope they come in handy x

-
comon!!!! surely some of you out there must be into this sort of stuff

i would agree and disagree. the source engine provides fantastic visuals - yes ... but essentially it is the same old CS 1.6 as we know and love with better graphics. Sure, there have been new maps added like compound and port - but the general feeling amongst gamers i play with are these maps suck difference - - - now, another issue is the hitboxes. there have been many complaints over hitboxes in the game being a load of crap. moving from 1.6 to source i would have to agree - it shows as well - many servers are now promoting their 100 tick rate or 66 tick rate - with gamers thinking their hitboxes will improve significantly.... 1.6 doesnt have this problem. and remains the better of the two... IMO!!!

Nintendo Legacy Nintendo has gone a long way.
fongy replied to Justin S.'s topic in Science and Technology
yeah ive had the SNES and Nintendo 64 - both quality consoles ... this nintendo wii idea looks absolutely fab - i mean, if it was called revolution that would be So much better. the new technology they are bringing to the console war is so original that it will compete with the superior graphics of the ps3 and 360 no doubt. im so exited about this baby coming out - i think it will mark a changing point in the "nintendo legacy" i mean comon guys look at how sexy these controllers are compared to the clumpy ps3 ones !!! -
Earning Hosting Credits Is Easy! Dont be fooled by the naysayers.
fongy replied to Avalon's topic in General Discussion
i was first put off by the fact you have to post on the forums to gain hosting for your site - but after reading this post and speaking to a few of my friends its not all that bad ...whats more, the community seems pretty genuine. sure, a few posts are blatently made to try and get credits but it seems as if people arent just posting for the sake of posting. -
i would stressguys that these programs are nearly EXACTLY the same!!!! i dont see the point in arguing over these two programs as they are so similar.
