  1. Well, I got the Western Digital Data Life Guard Tools to boot from a floppy, i tried to "write zeros to the drive", and even that failed with a message that said to call technical support. I called and western digital will ship me a new drive for free. But thanks for the help.Matt
  2. That won't work because if the SATA is connected, neither windows nor the setup CD will load. I think I'm going to see if WD will replace it for me.
  3. Hi there!I recently re-installed windows on my 250 gb WD SATA hard drive. I had a 50 gb windows partition and the rest for files. First thing that happened was my system partition wouldn't boot and eventually chkdsk said that the mbr was unrecoverable. A friend recommended that i use a seperate parallel hard drive to load windows and then convert the disk to dynamic in disk management. I did this, but the computer crashed and now windows won't even load with the SATA hard drive connected. The BIOS sees the SATA hdd, but that's as far as I can get. I tried to install windows on the SATA hdd, but the setup won't finish loading with the SATA hdd connected. So, i figure my data is unrecoverable, but why can't I repartition the hdd? By the way, the WD tools boot disks won't load with the SATA hdd connected. I also tried using "PC inspector smart recovery" to no avail. Can anyone give me some advice to what the problem is or how I can fix it? It would be much appreciated!
  4. Well, the only real contest is between Norton and McAfee. Norton is better by a margin for one simple reason: They are faster at releasing new "virus definitions" (read: most up-to-date protections). Both programs are very good and stable, but antivirus software is only as effective as it is up-to-date.
  5. Personally, I usually just use internet explorer 6. Of course, it is horribly unprotected against spyware. A much better choice is the new preview of Mozilla Firefox. It is fast, and has tabbed browsing, just like opera. But it's free, so it wins against opera. Mozilla is basically the next evolution of Netscape Navigator.
  6. don't use the ggole toolbar, it's borderline spyware. Use Pop-up Blocker free edition.
  7. Windows 98se is great at playing old games, xp is great at playing new games. why not dualboot your system and have both?
  8. Spybot Search and Destroy is great, but it doesn't get it all, and alot of the stuff it does get, just keeps coming back. One good thing to do with windows xp, is use a limited account and only use the administrator account for installing software. Limited accounts makes it harder for spyware to be installed in the first place.

    Do You Agree

I agree, it can be frustrating. But that's why God gave us a middle finger now, isn't it?
  10. 7337 is just a lame joke now. nobody cares anymore.
  11. I got a free account with prohosting, but after a while I couldn't upload anymore. I am curious to see if Xisto is as good as everyone says they are.
  12. I guess if you feel that the government takes enough money out of your pocket already, then vote for Bush. If you think you don't get taxed enough, then by all means, vote for Kerry. If you think that terrorism is a threat, vote for Bush.If you think that we should forgive the terrorists, then vote for Kerry.
  13. I was born in Fargo, North Dakota. I have lived in Michigan since I was 3 years old. Michigan sucks so hard, I can not describe it. And North Dakota is too cold.

    Hi

Hi,I'm Matt. I'm from pontiac, MI.hobbies: hardcore techno, computers, internet & friends.I stumbled upon your great site today.
  16. Windows XP is great: except for the activation bs. But if you have the corporate version, there is no activation. Longhorn looks promising, but I hear that microsoft may be in bed with the MPAA & RIAA (2 evil monopolies) to make DRM (Digital Rights Management) integrated into Longhorn. DRM is horrible, because it takes the control away from the user and gives it to the big evil record and film companies.Boycott the RIAA and MPAA!
  17. If you know how, there is no good reason not to build your own. You can buy high quality parts, and save money by not paying for an operating system. System manufacturers often use low quality power supplies, etc.
  18. If you want an affordable system, Soyo Dragon barebones systems are great. You can buy them on Newegg, which is the best site for buying hardware.
  19. You could try replacing the CPU heatsink/fan combo with one that has an adjustable dial. I bought one the other day and it's got a pci add-in card that has a little dial on the back. When i'm using Word, i turn it down, when I'm playing games, I can turn it up.
