Windows Xp Freezes At Welcome Screen

I have the exam same problem and i tried chkdsk /r, it strted scanning then something interesting happened, it came up to 74% and then went back down to 50%, then went back up again to 74% than back to 50% and so on. So i just restarted it and the same problem continues. k2wl - did u fix it? any ideas? thank you
