  1. If you have got some free time I recommend visiting http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ you don't mind text based game and like strategic turn base game you will undoubtedly love this game.In this game you are reincarnated as Mages who strives to control the most land and the most powerful army. There are five specialty that you can choose from (Ascendant, Verdant, Eradication, Nether and Phantasm)Ascendant are defensive. Verdant can dispel both harmful and beneficial spells and posses strong treefolks.Eradication can cast more destructive spells.Nether is the master of undead and demons.Phantasm is the master of illusion and spells.(I started this topic because, basically, I have run out of interesting ideas. I'm not affiliated with them).
  2. I would say that as long as you have some unique ideas and gameplay that can attract regular players. Then, you can get yourself started. The minimum programming skills that you will need will be:- html- css (for colors and style)- javascript (for client-side behavior to make the game looks more interactive)- php (for server side script to save player progress)- SQL (or some sort of database to store players' progress)Well, that is the case if you are really interested in building a web base online game. Probably, the minimum requirement.Good luck.
  3. Thanks for sharing they all looks great. I'll try them on after I save up enough myCents.
  4. Wiis are great for customization you can tinker your Wii to run Linux! And use it as web server if you wanted! They are also very green (extremely low power consumption). But the graphics and computing capability is greatly limited. As far as I know xbox has the red light problem which could be annoying.PS3 is a monster in terms of computing capacity. The games are in hi-def. PS3 works great streaming media from your computer directly to your tv and your sound system. Furthermore, you can even install Linux into PS3. Sadly, sony force you to update and remove this feature from PS3 (April , 2010).
  5. Has anyone here written a Facebook application? As Facebook seems to be a great place to advertise your game using social network model. If so how successful have you been? Is their ad system rewarding? Would it be better to just develop seperately and use Google's Adsense?
  6. I don't know have anyone made the system yet. But, if there wasn't I figured that it would be interesting to investigate. Stirling uses difference of temeperature from two surface and turn it into motion which can be use to drive a generator creating electricity. The solar power is plenty and but the reason why we cannot simply rely on them is because of the cost of photovoltaic cells. But what if we can just use array of mirrors to focus light into an one side of stirling machine enclosed in a transparent glass (to induce greenhouse effect). Would that give us a comparetively lower cost to energy ratio comparing to the conventional photovoltaic cells? This configuration can be applied to developing countries as it doesn't involve in complicate configuration and manufacture of sensitive equipments. This topic is inspired by http://forums.xisto.com/topic/97125-topic/?findpost=1064402253 topic More info on Stirling Engine https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stirling_engine
  7. Self aware Artificial Intelliegence (AI) is still a long way for computer programs. Although, we have seen technological advances in humanoid robots with human like features. They are merely programmed instructions and immitation of real humans.Computer programs works by set of conditions and follow them as programs. Can a set of instruction turn into a self aware entity? Maybe, but as far as we know right now. It is very unlikely. We have neural networks algorithm (functional mapping) for classification of item. Genetic Algorithm for optimization. But, something that may give rises to feelings? That is something that I don't know. Because if I do I would have easily won a noble prize. In addition, even if we assume that some scientists come up with a self aware robot. What would this robot do? It doesn't need sleep. It doesn't want to eat good food. It doesn't want to find a sexy partner. Why would it want to enslave human? For as far as I can imagine. If a robot become self aware it would undoubtedly see us as ants. Do you play with ants? Maybe.... but to certain extend they are just ants why would you care about them?
  8. Oh, i see thanks for the information. Then during this time does the length and quality of my posts count? Should I just make 15+ posts giving short answers and responses to other people? Or does the invisible myCents accumulate over this period as well?
  9. I have already posted 5 posts and haven't got any hosting credits from those posts. I checked on my details and it says on myCents information as no information.I checked that my e-mail in the forum and billing is the same. What am I missing? What else do I need?
  10. How about creating an input box in a form and action on submit call a php and save your info to MySQL database? http://www.w3schools.com/ This should have some examples that you can look at.
  11. Thanks for the info aloKNsh but, did you really write all those info by yourself? Shouldn't you use quote instead?
  12. I agree with most of the people that science won't be able to answer all our question because there are lots of questions that science can't proved/answered such as religious believe, or trick question also some silly question. Still science could be first approach to deal with the questions we have as it is an effective measure to many questions.
  13. Yes, you can create a text based online game using just php. However, it is not recommended. If you need to save progress then you still need to utilize some database scheme, such as MySQL.
  14. Nicholas Tesla dreamed of this. Theoretically, transferring electrical energy through air is possible. However, there are many challenges involve. It is nice to keep an open mind aloKNsh. Indeed, anything is possible, but at what cost?We can make a really fast car, but how much would that car consume fuel? How safe it can be? And how much will it cost?Transferring electrical energy wirelessly can be done in many ways.Air itself can act as a conductor if the potential difference is great enough. That's how lightning and thunder works.Another way is through magnetic induction. There are wireless charger commercially available, right now. Why don't we use the same principle for the rest of the world? Because as distance increase the strength of magnetic induction is drastically reduced (by square distance). Furthermore, magnetic pulse can be harmful to electrical devices as well. Since, they can generate extra voltage to unshielded circuit increasing their voltage beyond their designed level and ultimately fry them.My favorite way is through microwaves. Scientists have proposed of sending probes or satellite into orbit and use them as power station (also mentioned in Isac Asimov's Book iRobot), which should yield considerably higher energy. Due to the fact that there are no clouds and dust to reduce sunlight intensity in space. Then, transmit captured energy to earth using microwaves. This is the most plausible and sensible configuration for transferring energy wirelessly. Nevertheless, the cost involve is still an issue.Alright, this is my first post so forgive me if I made any mistakes.
