  1. its called the weather forecast, i thought some people might give a crap but apparently not
  2. Looks to be Wet and Windy this week:A stormy start to the week is expected in association with a powerful low pressure approaching from the south-west during Monday afternoon. A very wet and very windy Monday night is expected.Sunshine and showers are then expected to dominate for many during Tuesday and Wednesday with a risk of more persistent rain across the South for a time on Wednesday. There remains some uncertainty over the northern extent of this particular feature so more persistent rain may well push into the Midlands for a time. A transient ridge of high pressure later in the day on Wednesday should bring a chilly and frosty Wednesday night. Some good sunny spells are then expected for a time during Thursday before further cloud, wind and rain push east-wards across all parts later in the day. A showery end to the week is then expected. The period between the 1st of March and the 31st of May is classed as the Spring season. While we now look ahead to that first warm Spring day and the lengthening daylight we have to be aware that March can still bring us some winter-like conditions. The coming week will be far from Spring-like... One primary word that has been engraved into peoples mind's because of its frequent use over the last few weeks and months is the word 'unsettled'. The coming first full week of March will continue the unsettled theme. With low pressure continuing to be anchored in and around the Iceland region and with high pressure across the Azores the jet stream across the North Atlantic remains powerful, dominant and relentless. The jet stream is aiding in the development of a powerful low pressure system to the Southwest of the country during Monday. This system is expected to bring some very wet and very windy weather to all parts of the country into the overnight period. You can follow the track of the low pressure with our cyclone track and satellite images. So how can the jet stream aid in the development of a surface low pressure?. Well there are different types of jet stream and this is what is important. The diffluent jet stream in the upper atmosphere acts like a vacuum in sucking up air from the surface to the upper atmosphere. As we all know air in association with low pressure rises and descends in association with high pressure. The strength of the jet stream can determine the power of which air is pulled upwards through the atmosphere, the greater the pull the more powerful the surface low pressure is likely to be.
