I am sorry that I have not been on the Xisto forums, its just that school and other aspects have gotten into my life. During this time I have setup up one very successful website and another one in the works. Yet I have a major problem with one of the sites. I am not able to find that many people who are willing to offer technical support. While I have 24 /7 IRC and e-mail support, I would like to include a true chat service. I have advertised on different forums and have offered free web hosting and game servers. I also stated that any representative that sells a service to a new client receives 20%.
Several users now offer technical support via chat but more help is needed. Can anyone give me any recommendations? I can’t really pay money as of right now.

I'm not sure the technical term, but you know how domains have primary and secondary name servers? Well, I know that when you go to a domain, it queries NS1.ASTAHOST.COM (for example if you were hosted here) and if NS1 is down, it goes to NS2. Well, what I have a web server running on my network and what I'd like to do is have it setup with a "Site Temporarily Down" message and then if the server goes down for example.com, NS1 & NS2 also go down, have it redirect to a third DNS server to redirect it to the server on my network with the "Site Down" message.

How do I do this?

Theoretically itâs a sound idea but it would not work. See NS DNS propagation works by searching the fastest server. This is usually done by sending a ping request to the NS. The fastest readout becomes the default NS. See NS1 or NS2 does not mean itâs the first and second NS it is just a name. So my just adding two additional name servers would only mess your site up. You would see your website constantly going from your website to the backup site. Hope that makes sense.

So what can you do?
If you have your own house server and have your own Name Servers you could register them into your domain Name Servers setup account and just turn of your home server. That way, when the DNS pings out your NS they would not exist. Now when your hosting account goes down you would just have to turn on your home server.

Wait but you want them to start automatically right?
Well you could probably find a free or paid service which could contact you when your server is down (Search Google). I have done this several years ago and donât know if it can be repeated again. I had my website monitoring service send me an e-mail that the server was done. Then I created a script to execute a batch script if an e-mail was send from a certain e-mail. The batch script would then initiate my apache service. Thatâs all I did.

Hope this helps, itâs a great idea but it takes a lot of work. Even though I did this on a windows system, I recommend to use a Debian or any other great linux distribution.

Yah I think i Just might use phpfox it looks very good and is pretty cheep for only one month. Or i might just buy a programmer for the hour and see how much he can do , but that can get pretty exspensive anyways thanks for the help!

If you want to hire a scriptor to create a site LIKE myspace will take a very dedicated developr. If i had the patience to design and manage a site like that. You would be the charged the following.
$250.00 - Retainer FEE
$6000.00 - For the automated system
$10,000 - Copyright Removal.

Now you might say, am i mentally ill. No person will ever pay such money. On the contrary a script of stature requires one or more dedicated scriptors. How have the time not only to develop such a system but also make sure that its secure. Yet you also need a team to hack the system. Its a really big load. Plus you never nkow if a site will go big.

So why are other scripts worth $100 + more? Well you are not their only client. They would eventaully get paid the same amount of money if not more. Plus their software can not exactly match you needs since it is based on its own frame. For this you would need to hire a special scripter.

CONCLUSION
Before you even start thinking about creating a myspace type system, try setting up a forum and modding it up with Myspace type features. Get the members and get that stats. When you have a large enough community create your system and then create a php script which could transfer data from your currently MySQL database to the new database for your system.

I was trying to load Fedora into my Machine. After 30 minutes of smooth run, I succeeded in installing it. All along my mouse was working just fine. After the installation was complete, when I rebooted the machine still mouse was fine. Now finally after I give the user ID and password fpr login, the mouse pointer just disappeared!!!
Well, the mouse still works. When I move the mouse the items get highlighted. When I double click the highlighted item, it opens the application. The scroll button is working fine. but.... The mouse pointer is not being displayed!!!

I tried changing the mouse pointer, still the problem persists. Frustrated, Ire installed it. Still the same old story... Can't see my mouse pointer.

I'm using Athlon 64- bit processor (3000+) with 512MB of RAM, MSI Motherboard and I'm using Logitech Scroll Mouse....

Any help in finding my Mouse pointer will be appreciated...

Have you ever used any other Distro's? If so have you ever had any problems. Such a problem really happens due to KDE or GNOME (in your case). Is the light under your mouse working or is it ball type?
Can you login by using the tab+enter key? Get back to me on those, i have helped people before with such problems but that was because the system did not detect the firmware of the mouse.

Well, I can give you an example of valid xhtml strict code for the object tag and you just need to learn from it and use yours.

This code is 100% valid, I don't really know why your code doesn't validate, but think the validator parsed you the error message what wasn't valid, I didn't check, but it might have to do something with embed tag. And moreover, there isn't such thing as traditional html/xhtml, I think you mistaken it with Transitional.

Ya, i was just really tired from studying and made that mistakes. Thanks for the code, i tried something like that but it didn't work for some reason. I see a few differences.

Experienced users might know what is going on but the average JOE just clicks away. If a program says mandatory update, the user will just press okay and continue his mission. Yet that update script could have been a virus or worm. Even advacned users might fall for such scams. Something else needs to be done.

So let see if someone can come up with a proper way to code a flash object.

Secondly, Xisto could record each IP registered an not allow registration of teh same IP. That would eventaully limit the amount of proxy that could be used. Its quite easy to post here and so easy to fill up a page of context by spending the same amount of time as it would take to register five accounts. Mark i really like your idea about giving extra credit to the best post of the week. Though i think its a bit unfair to allow the staff to choose the best polst. Why not create a poll for all members to vote on the best post at the end of the week.

I suggest to open the file with a barebone text editor like notepad or vi(m), that always does the trick.
About php rendering, what do you mean by that? PHP is like a full grown programming language, i can't imagine that built in to any web editor.

I think he means if the code could be parsed for correctness. You would have to install a php / apache server to acctaully have the php file run in windows.

Even though i am a paid member of Xisto - Web Hosting now and a bit unhappy. Just so that other members would know, how much does one hosting credit cost in U.S. currency? Its probably not too much since a basic Xisto - Web Hosting account with more space and bandwith per month costs around 3.30.

Ummm... well, has anyone actually tested phpBB3 for any huge security holes yet? Just because something looks good doesn't mean it is secure!

Dude that is not the point everything has security holes and it takes time to find them. The point is that they have introduced new features that they neve have before. Dude why are you always so negative...it gets annoying after a while. Do you really think that SMF doesn't have security holes? PHPBB 3 is in beta mode adn itll take time before the scripters get it right. Why can't you just say its a good start?

Hey,After looking at the error it is seems that your disk is damaged or just has a few spots on it. Try to clean it up a bit or otherwise contact Apple and have them replace the Disk. You might be able to find some online sources. Hope this helps.

perhaps this overloading is also the cause why i got kick up from the ftp server when snding files.. due to time difference.. the time i was on the peak of sending files is perhaps the time that the Xisto is busy.. though when the Xisto server seems less loaded was also the time that access on the net in our country goes high.
thanks to people hosting torrents and private download servers at home.. the backbone of my wireless ISP got clogged up a few times for 3sec - 2mins low connection in high peak hours..

No you get kicked of either because to many people are using FTP which has a max of 50 people, your ISP, your IE config, or as you said the server is using to much bandwith. I personally have never been kicked of on Xisto. Also, it depends which FTP system the server is using, since i was a server admin there were only two types. Things might have changed since i was chief.

Yes but it is not advanced as the new version? Have you seen the beta in action? Also, Quick Silver is a ripped of version of Mercuary board, the only difference between the two versions is that Quick Silver is a bit simpler and has a bit differnt design. Otherwise the source code is identical to mercuary. Also Mecuary is not that fun to design and does not offer great editing capablity without breaking something, trust me i know.

Well I just started up a new site and was trying to figure out what forum software to use. I did not really want to spend money on an IPB or VB license in the beginning of my community, so I decided to look at my free options. Anyways, my first visit was or Mercury Board and then SMF and finally PHPBB. Anyways, while i was looking at the 2.0 series to see how well i could mod it and customize it i looked into the beta. So i downloaded the beta and uploaded and installed it at http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ . Anyways when you look into the new beta version you see a whole need admin interface, and in general a whole new cool looking version. If you seriously compare it to IPB or VB you will easily see the major improvement that the PHPBB development team has done. So if your interested in any of the new techy stuff check out PHP3 Beta4.

Warning you should not run PHPB 3 as a live version until the final release. Well unless you know what your doing !!!
