  1. well enlightenment doesn't and it's great i like it anyway I'm not the only one using the PC at home so my parents kinda hate the idea of no task bar.. anyway if it makes tasks easier why not use it? even if it's made by M$
  2. the ethernet is built in so i can't take it out anyway the drivers are installed, i'll check again maybe a registry crash removed them, but i'm pretty sure they are installed since i used that card once.. [EDIT] hey thanks problem solved now, it probably was a regestry crash, i reinstalled the drivers they are now detected.
  3. hey, sorry my internet was off today, i'll post the eth0 info from linux soon anyway i have XP SP2, my mobo is MSI k8 neo4 with a 3000+ athlon 64 processor and 1GB of ram, 200 gb samsung SATA drive, one built in eth card 1GB (Nvidia like to board chipset ofcourse ) so is the sound and i have one pci ethernet card with a realtek 8139 and X300SE ATI PCIE card.i havn't installed any new hardware lately i just noticed once this happened.. i hope you can help me :Pthanks
  4. Hello,i really don't know what's happening with my windows system, i know that it was well configured one day and then boom, my built in Ethernet is not showing, not even as unknown hardware, the SATA drive used to show in the task bar as removable drives now they are not, now i don't care for that but the Ethernet is what I'm really concerned about, it's working on Linux normally, and i don't want to reinstall windows coz that's the only solution i know of.. i don't really use windows that much so i dono how to fix stuff.. any help is appreciated thanks.
  5. Well my PC can handle vista but i don't really want it, what i have in windows terms is enough, i only need it for my M206 course in university for now, and maybe some other courses, maybe occasional games too, so XP is more then enough for me, actually 98 is more then enough if it was supported by my board. As for the main system, i use Gentoo Linux, I'm happy with recompiling everything on upgrades, i just know i have a stable system optimised to my needs, however Linux as said above is easy, and i even find it easier to use then windows, i personally prefer gnome interface and themes over windows, i also prefer typing the name of the app to run instead of having to click start --> programs --> bla --> bla --> bla.exe i find it much easier, faster and straight forward.
  6. i don't think Linux has trouble catching up on the desktop that much i find GNOME more user friendly and easier to use then the windows interface, now the problem is mostly that users got used to the windows interface they refuse to try another one. now about vista I'm really not that interested in what it has to offer, i think an sp3 to XP would be better until most of the people have enough requirements but i don't really mind let them burn in hell and the new "looks" in windows vista are already available with project looking glass (although it's CPU hungry) and with XGL (still needs lots of resources too) but not as much as vista i guess.
  7. hehe i was going to give this along with some other Linux choices, reactos seems very promising since it would solve the only for windows driver problems and be a complete free OS, however i would definitely recommend that you try Linux, what to choose is suse or mandrake if you want an easy to install system, for the desktop ease of use i think kde or gnome are the best choice, i usually go with gnome as it looks really nice and has everything you need, but kde isn't bad either the new version seems nice i used to hate its looks and it reminded me of windows, i still hate it for that. this would help you choose http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
  8. if you want to get to know your system you should go with gentoo it's not really hard to install the handbook makes it really easy and gives you great experience with linux, however as your first distro something like ubuntu would be great, get used to the gnome, it's usable easy and has everything you need.. after you get yourself experienced with ubuntu go with gentoo, it's all about choice you can install the programs you want nothing more and have it behave the way you want it's really the best distro arround.
  9. well kde looks good and familiar to a new user switching from Window$ however look at the gnome interface and themes especially clearlooks, i have to go with gnome and i bet a new user who never saw windows like enviroments would find gnome extremly easy to use.. the gtk engine is nice. gnome and xfce are therefore great in shape.. so long live gnome :D you could also try enlightenment for extremly beautiful desktop its' nice that's enlightenment.. if i was home i would post some gnome shots maybe i'd post again when i am
  10. Well i can say i tried most of the free webhosting.. none has even been good,i stumbled upon Xisto today, i'll give it a try but i still have no credits :lol:anyway what i like about it is the no adds and the tomcat part wish me luck building my webpagesee you arround
