A pair (male and female) of rabbits were born on June 1, 1995 and placed in a walled enclosure to breed. If a pair of rabbits produces another pair of rabbits at the end of their first two months and after that produces another pair of rabbits every month, and if each pair of rabbits produced follows this same pattern, then how many pairs of rabbits will there be in the walled enclosure June 1, 1996? Assume that no rabbits in this enclosure die during the year.

"draw (or imagine) a 4x4 grid of sixteen empty boxes,|_|_|_|_||_|_|_|_||_|_|_|_||_|_|_|_|within this grid you need to arrange sixteen shapes:@@@@####$$$$%%%%such that there is one of each shape in each row, each column, and each of the four 2x2 quarters of the grid."the examples here@#$%#$%@$%@#%@#$$@%##$@%%#$@@%#$(which break the third rule and are not solutions), are the same constellation, simply mirrored and use different sequences of shapes.Question: how many _constellations_ are there that meet the criteria of the puzzle?

Imagine a game like basketball, but instead of two point shots there are three point shots, instead of three point shots there are seven point shots, and there are no penalty shots. What is the maximum score which is impossible in this game?

Your friend measures your average while you shoot hoops (i.e. if you shot six times, made two shots, and missed four, then your average is 33.333%.) Near the beginning of the game, you're not doing very well, and your average is about 50%. Later on, the practice is starting to pay off and you get your average up to about 80%. The question is, just knowing this, can you tell for sure whether your average was ever exactly equal to 75%?By the way, "yes" or "no" doesn't cut it -- you could be just guessing. You have to explain why. I'll announce the winner whenever someone gets it right; then it's their turn to put up a new puzzle topic.

I am going to show that the irrational numbers are uncountably infinite. That is that they are a finite set that cannot be mapped to the natural numbers, {1, 2, 3, 4, ...}. I also am going to show that the rational numbers are indeed countable. Both proofs are in reality pretty simple and can be understood by most people that have been educated to the point of knowing algebra. Of course, if you need any clarification, feel free to ask, but to find the proofs just follow the links to my blog. The proof that the rationals are countable. The proof that the irrationals are uncountable. I hope that you enjoy them. 187216

most people would agree that if you could accelerate closer to the speed of light, you go through time faster. again, a lot of people say the universe is expanding therefor everything is moving, very fast. well if you were to get on a rocket ship, it would already be moving because of the expansion, if you were to go against the expansion the same speed of it, you would reach a true 0 velocity. so you wouldn’t be moving, and everything else would. Basically everything around you would just stop, because you would be going to slow. well everything except light would seem to just stop.

I've come up with a much simpler question using only math. To garrantee its ease I chose one from grade school, so everyone here with half a mind should be able to answer it. There are a thousand lockers standing in a row. A boy comes along and opens every locker A second boy comes along and closes every second locker A third boy comes along and goes to every third locker and if its open, closes it, and if its closed, opens it. A fourth boy comes along and repeats for every fourth locker. etc. This continues till the one thousandth boy closes the one thousandth locker. How many lockers are still open? I'll leave the original question reproduced below. The winner will be either the best answer to the above problem or any halfway decent answer to the below problem by Sunday (as I assume someone will answer the above problem by then). 179222

I stumbled upon this site a few years ago when a friend mentioned something about membranes and the multiverse, multiple dimensions (above 3), and so on. Recently I stumbled it over again by some chance, and I have had the time to look over more of it now. Personally, I'm not really sure whether to believe it or not, though I'm leaning more towards the not believing, though I still think it's some pretty interesting stuff. Just thought I would share, it seems a bit quiet in this section. 252986

This game is amazing. It's a Korean knock off of Battle Field 2 but it's free. It's really really nice. It has a great online network with driveable vehicles, modern weaponry, and a built-in ranking system. Follow the directions here: Download Here's a screen shot: 235564

Just another example, to me, of Creative's absolute futility in a market that has left them behind. Minus the diehards of Nerd-ia, there just isn't a demand for anything in the personal entertainment market without an i in the name. There's no way that they can take on the ten-ton gorilla that is Apple's marketing department with products simply "as good" as an iPod. The only people buying into the alternatives are people that will talk until their face turns blue about open source software to a room filled with Microsoft execs. They feel that they are superior to everyone else simply because they know more and flaunt it. Needless to say, iPods have the key tools in winning--name recognition and consumer apathy. Why would anyone want to buy a product that plays "better" formats like OggVorbis when they don't know what the hell an MP3 is? The only solution they have is to wait for Apple to eventually make a mistake in their business model to signal a change. Apple's laid the groundwork in this sector of tech for growth, but they just aren't done yet.

Hmm conclusive evidence as shown by the may make people more likely only may? well thast hardly a conclusion of any note is it? As well they should be, in the mentioned case the game belonged to the victim Once again the witchhunt tries to demonise games & fails, except with daily mail readers or anyone who doesnt get past the first line or two of the article that is. source interestingly I was reading an article ina magazine last week that said why hasnt there been any research into the positive effects of gaming? a good point I feel & it'd be better than trying to demonise it all the time.
