  1. If one wants to make their own FPS, one should first find an engine to work with. Unless you wish to code your own engine from scratch(which requires an extremely advanced programmer) you should start with a ready-made engine(such as the CRX engine, check out http://red.planetarena.org/). The CRX engine is based off the GPL'd id source code and you can use the Q2 map programs to construct maps. All one has to do is make the maps and link them with a single player campaign in the engine. It's not easy to make a legit FPS, takes alot of time and knowledge and hard work, but its fun. Good luck!
  2. RE4 is one of the greatest video games ever made. Really paving the way for a better generation of gaming. The over the shoulder view will remain in RE5 and RE5 will incorporate a new gameplay element. Something about light and dark areas of the map , the light areas reveal you more and you are more vulnerable or something. The RE5 trailer looks awesome, sure to be a great game.RE4 was revolutionary in its mechanics, the over-the-shoulder view and new aiming system really brought you into the game and character, let you experience the game as never before. The storyline is obviously a precursor to a bigger, continuing storyline as well. I can't wait for the RE5!
  3. The best freeware FPS is Alien Arena 2006, get it at Cor Entertainment's Code Red: Alien Arena 2006 Its a great FPS based on the CRX engine with fast paced Quake3 style FPS action with a few extra additions Great bot AI, lots of players to play with, awesome weapons, 2 vehicles, several graphical enhancements. Its alot of fun. Go check it out. We also have an IRC channel #alienarena on EFnet IRC if you want to come chat about it.
