I found it pretty easy to grasp. At first it was confusing as hell but little and little it got easier. Some concepts are still confusing to me but a good site to go to if you need help is http://javaranch.com/ and post on the forumsthere. Very helpful.

I use Jcreator usually. Somtimes notepad. I like the color coding and it just makes everything easier. Also quick access to the documentation.
