A very good Freeware for Windows: Irfan View from Irfan Skiljan, graduate of Vienna University of Technology. On "About IrfanView", you will get a nice picture of Jajce in Bosnia. I am currently using Version 3.85 and it is OK. I still prefer the ULead PhotoExplorer where it is possible to build a show in a few seconds with images and videos (mpeg). What do you prefer to use?I am now only using Open Office and stopped to use Microsoft suite, since Open Office read/amend/write Microsoft document.Sometimes I used Microsoft Draw because I still did not take the time to learn the corresponding Open Office program. But...A really good suite! You can even insert information from PostgreSQL and MySQL RDBMS in your documents.Fantastic, no?

I did not check all the answers and will may.be repeat a well-know point. There is a guy on internet who pointed out that MSN search gives preference to Websites hosted on Windows systems. He published statitics to proove his point of vue. If someone is interested, I may find his address out of my notices. I personally never used MSN search.

If you search the answer to this question on the web, you will find followint answer. I do not exactly remember the terms but you may find the text on the site of the people who are writing TikiPro, the TikiWiki version for PostgreSQL (instead of MySQL). The guy made a comparison: Oracle is a Hummer (you can what you want, when you want), PostgreSQL a Mercedes (a good and reliable tool) and MySQL a WV -- do not remember the english name -- (a simple car). With MySQL there is no problem to run an application. It is far better than flat files, even XML files. But you still do not have some features available in the other RDBMS. But it is not a problem when you do not need them, isn'it? Personally, I know very well Oracle but do not have the money for it. So I am using PostgreSQL on Windows. That's my choice and it is not the best choice in terms of freedom: a lot of open source packages are stick to MySQL. But I feel better: I do not have to find out which MySQL client version is compatible with the installed PHP version... I still have a MySQL DB running but do not have to do much with it. I just would like to say something very important. When you develop against MySQL, try to write your SQL without using all the MySQL specialities. I you miss this point, that will be a long process to prepare your application for an another DB. That's the danger with MySQL. Look at the Drupal CMS: they still have problems with this conversion

I am trying to learn how to generate applications (Java but may be later in Python as well) from some UML definitions.Since I really like Eclipse, I would like to read a bit more on how to to do that. I downloaded some plugin but I am still stick at the very beginning.I am really missing some tutorial, step-by-step introduction or a rather simple example.Could you help me to go on?

Apache brought an open source java to the market.Is Python covering so many domains than Java?Would it be possible to code every kind of application with Python?For wich reason would you choose Python for an application development?

I want to start the development of a Java application. But I am not able to start. I am used to work with macro languages like Uniface from Compuware, where information was limited. Now, with Java, I have so much to read that I have no more idea how to code.Could you help me? What should I start with? Do you know where to find a small well-documented Java application that I could study for learning?

No idea what lomoboz is! I checked the amateras project and I am not using this stuff as well. But I am a fan of eclipse. When you really want to get usefull eclipse plug-ins (which are really offered in quantity), check the home page of eclipse.org, under the tab community. Eclipse.org lists their own selection of free and commercial plug-ins. And at the bottom of the page you will find a list of sites which are offering lists of eclipse plug-ins as well. Tons of plug-ins are to be studied: organize yourself first.

In my case, I decided not to use a Wiki system for the following reason:1) wiki sequences are stored in the DB so that this information may be used only by a Wiki system. That is a real problem when you plan to access your DB with other tools than your Wiki system.2) Difficulty to get a static export of parts of the system.Otherwise, the features offered by TikiWiki (on MySQL) or TikiPro (on PostgreSQL) are really impressive.A really good system with a lot of advantages.I am currently using Drupal as internal information system and Apache Forrest for static HTML publications.

I had to get static html files to upload on my ISP site.The best CMS that I found for that is Apache Forrest with Open Office files.I write my text in Open Office Writer (something like MS Word) files, can re-use part of it in another files (through the OO sections), could insert so text from a DB (but not doing it), ....With Apache Forrest (based on Apache Cocoon), I can check dynamically the results and then export into static html files.It is a very simple system which, because of Cocoon, may be later EXPANDED.i am really satisfied of the results.

The CMS, I choosed to store information, is Drupal.Drupal has a good taxonomy system which is easy to use.they are currently trying to support PostgreSQL (and not only MySQL) and my system is currently running with PostgreSQL 8 on Windows. I still have some problems (corrections to do manually in the DB) but I am very happy with this CMS.

I tested Tiki with MySQL and TikiPro with PostgreSQL.The systems are quite good but are storing their special Wiki sequences in the DB. Your text in the DB can therefore only be used by Wiki systems, since it the Wiki sequences must be first interpreted.An another problem is the static export. You may only export the whole wiki part of the site as static HTML files!

Xaraya is a very flexible CMS which also comes with many different modules.It is quite easy to use but still requires a MySQL RDBMS.I personally think that Xaraya is currently one of the best CMS available on the free market.Could not use it because I wanted to use PostgreSQL as RDBMS. And some of the modules (user management for instance) could not work correctly with PostgresSQL.What a disappointement!
