My site has been running fine for a period of time, but all of the sudden today when I was logging in backend, I got this error message;Warning: session_start(): open(/var/lib/php/session/sess_a55e6710b4d07f7fefba8db9a2cd4ecb, O_RDWR) failed: Permission denied (13) in /mnt/home4/j/je/jedimind/public_html/parkveien34/administrator/index.php on line 72Warning: session_start(): Cannot send session cookie - headers already sent by (output started at /mnt/home4/j/je/jedimind/public_html/parkveien34/administrator/index.php:72) in /mnt/home4/j/je/jedimind/public_html/parkveien34/administrator/index.php on line 72Warning: session_start(): Cannot send session cache limiter - headers already sent (output started at /mnt/home4/j/je/jedimind/public_html/parkveien34/administrator/index.php:72) in /mnt/home4/j/je/jedimind/public_html/parkveien34/administrator/index.php on line 72Warning: session_write_close(): open(/var/lib/php/session/sess_a55e6710b4d07f7fefba8db9a2cd4ecb, O_RDWR) failed: Permission denied (13) in /mnt/home4/j/je/jedimind/public_html/parkveien34/administrator/index.php on line 93Warning: session_write_close(): Failed to write session data (files). I reckon it's gotta be boring looking at error messages and trying to make something out of it, but don't be hating me, I'm a newbie trying to learn. So if you can make something from my error messages please reply or contact me on what to do. Thank you.

I couldn't find a good answer when I searched through the forum, so I'll just ask; How can I add more "smilies" (want to add cards for a pokerforum), and create codes for them? The way I see it there is no easy backend feature for this, so I guess I'll have to enter the .html and. php and .css files on this, but which ones, and how do I make it so that new codes point to new pictures in smilies folder?I'm using a PHP Simpleboard component for Mambo.

I came to think about a suggestion I'd like to add. Sometimes I post new threads or topics, but they remain unanswered because they fall into the shadows of new or active threads/topics. And sometimes when I come to this forum I really don't know what to write, so it might be a good thing to have a search feature which show a list of topics and threads that has not yet been answered. Just a thought.

I downloaded the free version of Mandriva and I'm ready to turn it into a dedicated server to host my webpage, pop3/smtp clients and so on. Unfortunately I'm brand new to Linux, so I can't seem to figure out how to make this work. I was hoping the whole thing would be more intuitive. I've been using windows server, and that was pretty easy. Just create a rootfolder and put your webpagefiles in it, and turn a DNS address to your IP and make sure your PC is on at all times. But then I came across Apache, MySQL and stuff like that, so I'm ready to be Linuxified. So the question is; What do I do to make my Mandriva installation the home for my own webpage, and have apache and MySQL as available features for my website as well?I'm really hoping for "Linux For Dummies" type of answers here, so don't go all technical and lingo on me, or else I'll get nowhere. Even more hopeful, don't like to read, so please be as short as possible, and pleeeease don't direct me to any tutorials or "dedicated helpsites". They always seem to write too much about simple things, leaving me more confused than I was before coming there. An example of that is when I tried to figure out how to make graphics work with FreeBSD, and every page I went to explained what Xorg or X11 was and how it worked and when and where and who developed it.Then I asked at a forum and a guy said; "type xorgconfig" I nearly broke into tears, it was so beautifully simple.

Someone from the Sun? Solaris OS family
TheKnowledge replied to k221405241470's topic in Websites and Web Designing
What kind of education do you need for the jobs you got? How long do they take and at what cost? I'm interested in that kind of work. I can't stand my current jobs, and I use most of my spare time on computing anyway. Might as well be of some use. I just downloaded Solaris 10, and getting ready to install it. So far I'm a windows only user, and don't have any knowledge on coding/programming or networking for that matter. Just installed Linux Mandriva on one of my "lab rats" (low standard PC for experimental purposes) Anything to add before I dive into Solaris 10? Anyone? -
What about sound? Are they noisy things? How cheap do they come? Liquid cooling systems seems like an interesting solution if it's silent. I need to have my computers on 24/7, so I have to sleep with earplugs because the fans are so noisy. I don't do that now, but it may come to that this autumn.

Any Alternatives To Photoshop? Quick question
TheKnowledge replied to mizswantonbomb's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
Microsft has launced a beta version of what some claim to be Photoshops next contestant. You can find it by search for "acrylic" on microsoft.com. You have to register a passport, then you'll recieve a link in your email. It's free. Approximately 80 mb download zip file containing an installationfile and a release note. -
The only good use I can think of regarding atomic and nuclear weapons and such is to send it into space and destroy threats like comets and asteroids.

I'm at the beginning of learning about FreeBSD, and have installed the OS (version 5.4). I only made it to the black screen with text/command line. So I need those quick and easy pointers to get started with the graphical interface of things. So...how easy can I get a graphical user interface like mousecursor, windows, programmenu's and such (like in windows, ubuntu, mandrake and so on) working for my FreeBSD installation?I read some stuff about X11 and Xorg, but it seems quite complicated to me, but I consider that as just being a mild obstacle because I'm inexperience. What needs to be done to make X11 or Xorg work? How easy can it be done?

To join this conversation I would like to start out with the fact that I think Open Source OS has an amazing and solidary attitude towards their users. I have always been a windows user. Not by free choice, but because it's been the only thing I've ever heard of. Now that I'm learning about Linux and Unix and the way it plows through the world with their free and "for everyone, everywhere"- mindset, I simply can't help myself from downloading every piece of linux/unix based OS out there, to learn about it. One thing is that windows, the way I've experienced it, has the most various softwares available for use. Having been through a musicproduction period, I came across too many sofware packages for musiccreation to ever being able to buy. I may even say there were too many alternatives leading to uncertainty and confusion, and always a very high cost for quality. I learned along the way that Apple are excellent for musicproduction and visual production such as videomaking and picture editing. I learned that from getting to know musicproducers and photographers/videomakers and being with them in the production. I have never had Mac/Apple myself, but from the view of things, it seems as if it has a solid OS, solid music and videosoftwares and that whenever someone buys a Mac, they always end up with the same software as everyone else either it's music or video/photo. Seems very clean and solid. With the knowledge of the addictive ways of computergaming, I've tried to avoid using my recources on PC graphics cards and such, because I've seen too many friends fall into the dark pits of CS, Battlefield, Warcraft and other games in a mid-summers day when the girls and sun and warm weather are waiting for you. Behind closed curtains and dampened lights it's as if every gamer has a high quality graphicscard, a windows OS and a copy of their favourite game. Now that I've been through the most expensive parts of OS'es, the way I see it, I end up looking for something to serve on the internet with. Windows servers are VERY expensive, and Apple/Mac software servers is a thing I haven't even been looking for. Maybe someone can write about that. People talk alot about Linux as the best webservers and webhosts, soo I looked it up. And my surprise is that it is free of cost, and they have a policy with the intention to reach out to poor countries and help the advancement of modern technology (Ubuntu Linux). They say that some of the OS'es are not very userfriendly, but the fact that it's free and open sourced seems to have made it possible for the public to alternate it's function, develop it further and be a more userfriendly interface. Not sure if I got that one right, but the main thing is that it is free of cost, and so is most of it's additional essential software. To sum it up I believe that the most entertaining OS is Windows, but also with a vast variety of softwares for all purposes. The best OS for media creation seems to be MAC and the best and most secure serving OS is Linux/Unix. My hopes are that the Open Source community grows and expands both userfriendlyness and software variety, and maybe one day we will have a free opportunity to do whatever a computer can offer within creation, entertainment and serving. Even at the highest quailty, so that access to the important education of a PC is not only restricted to a rich country, but also available to less fortunate countries. Who knows? Maybe we've missed out on a few computergeniuses already. The expansion of computertechnology also depends on wether the right knowledge reaches the right people. Making it free will increase the probability. Thank you for your time.

Microsfts has launced a free betaversion of what they claim will be a worthy Adobe Photoshop competitor. You can go to microsofts pages and use the search to find it (acrylic). You have to register a passport account to get a link sent to email, and then you can download it. If you are paranoid or just don't like microsft, you can type in bogus registration info, but the email must be valid. It's actually a pretty neat program with some cool filters for your pictures. The file is about 77 mb, but their servers are fast.

Need Advice For Photo Galery And Shooping Cart
TheKnowledge replied to chris1234's topic in Websites and Web Designing
You could try Mambo solutions. They have launched a version with a phpshop embedded in it. You can also download various galleries, newsscrollers, downloadremositories and much more. Mambo is the site, and it has a administration panel from where you can install components and modules for your page. The best solution for mambo I have come across so far is 100webspace.com, but you must pay 11 $/year for enable email and removal of banners, and it has a 500kb filesize limit. Check it out at http://domainwords.net/ -
.tk is pretty nice, but their ads are too brutal for me to use. They also have email forwarding, and you can have up to three free domains at your registration. And at each domain, 5 email forwarding. That makes it to a total of 15 email forwarding with yourname@yourdomain.tk, which is pretty neat. I tried the emailforwarding, and it's a bit slow and unreliable though, but if your not too serious about it, its pretty cool. They also say you must have a certain amount of visitors per month, like 30 or something, but if your domian gets suspended, simply cancel it, and re-register it, and you'll have 30 more days. But don't worry about that, it took 1 year before my unused registered domain got suspended for lack of visitors.

I noticed that many free hosts don't support streaming video or creation of videothumbnails. Is there anything i can do or install to make it so that my site creates thumbnails for video or so that I can stream video even if the host don't support (nor deny it)

I'm thinking to start my own server and have never used any Linux or Unix OS before. I'm looking for the easiest, least code/programming, most buttons-click-customizing server friendly to MySQL, Apache, webmail, pop3, smtp, videostreaming and all that Linux/Unix OS out there. It must be free and easy to download. All suggestions are welcome! Thank you.

Mp3 Questions a question for a mp3 beginner like me
TheKnowledge replied to karlo's topic in Software
>QUOTE(Moody @ Jun 25 2005, 03:42 PM)>If you want to change the bitrate of a music file. This is a good >program dbPowerAMP.>You can change bitrate with this program, from WAV, MP3, WMA and >some other files, in many different ways. I use it to put more music on >my MP3-player.>I see.. so let's say I have a 256 Kbps music, it will become 128 kbps >without any loss of quality? There will be loss of quality, but not so much that the music sounds bad. You shouldn't go below 128 kbps though. Regarding the duplicate file issue, you should just go through your files and delete the dupes and tidy like if it was tidying your room. -
The font is awesome. I'd like to get my hands on them myself. Where di you get it, and what's it called? Maybe Skate Team, how long have you been skating, I'm turning 10 years on the board around these days

I tried the freesql.org, but I found it to be very slow and the database seemed to have a crash of some sort when I did too many changes on my webpage. Like an overload or something. Worth a try though. However, http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ is a very good free MySQL database host, but you must have a website where you can up a textstring ad for them, or else you wont be able to create database. Once you get the link they provide on your page, the registration is fast and easy. Their database is fast and hassle-free. I have two of them and I must say: I really enjoy it. Be kind and tell me if you find other good ones.

Ok guys, I'm pretty new to this. I'm not sure what the purpose of it is, I have always looked upon forums as pure informational resources. Most conversations I have seen through my short time as a forum-traveler are usually spun around a technical topic like: Some guy ask about something, and another one with the proper skills answers him. And when the answer is ridiciously simple, they laugh about it. Another nice thing I've discovered is the registration process and the value of it. A few messageboards I've seen without registration are too often misused in the form of nickfaking and public dissrespecting of people. So, the fact that you can control the users behaviour and language makes the stay at the forum more enjoyable. Thank you.I have to be honest about it. I'm posting with the goal to recieve the 30 points to get the grand of the two free packages, so I'd be glad to be pointed to parts of the forums where people talk about little or nothing. Because I'm such a newbie, most of my questions are already answered, so posting would just make me loose integrity. I can tell you that the purpose of my site is to have video, pictures and newsupdates of local skateboarding. I'm a writer and my friend is a photographer, so we search the web together, looking for reasonable good solutions. I'm learning to set my site up with Mambo Solution. If anyone would like to see what I have been able to do so far, just ask, and I'll post it if I'm allowed. I've registered with dozens of other hosts, but there is always something missing, or their ads are too brutal.Well then...I'm going to wander off into the ocean of posts and topics to see if I can find other places to write things that I hope will reap points. Thank you for your time. See you around.
