    read my blog profile page if you're curious...<br /><br />...or just read my blog, lol.<br /><br />http://www.livejournal.com/~elysithea/
  1. I haven't been posting for a while, but I was in the hospital for a few days. I developed a bad case of bronchitis. x_XUnfortunately, I'm not going to be able to participate as much as I'd like to, and I thought about just canceling my account. Would it be possible for me to just sign up at the Xisto.com forums instead? Sorry, I wish I had thought of that before, but right now I think I'd only be able to post once a week or so.
  2. Basically, I got here the same way just as some of these nice people did. I googled (or however you want to spell it) and found this place on free-website-hosting.com 1> Are you ready to accept ads on your website ? Eh, I suppose so, but I'd prefer to keep it looking professional. I'll put up ads if it were for Xisto (like someone else said, the little logo "hosted by Xisto" would be cool). 2> Are you ready to make a small payment for not posting? I'd pay if I didn't want to post, but you guys are all just so nice so it's hard not to jump in and post. (I'm not being sarcastic, lol) 3> Do you feel that you are compelled to post? If yes, Suggest about other methods in which we can ask you to come up and support us. We are supported by advertising networks. Hmm.....not really. I blog, so I like to post things (but I just won't post for the sake of posting). I guess if I were sick, I'd be posting a bit less but I'd make an effort to stay active. I think it's actually 10 credits, not 10 posts. If you have something to say, 10 credits are not that many. I got over 10 just now. 4> Do you feel that the facilities provided by this host is enough for you. If not, what do you require. I just got my account today, so I think I have what I need for now. I can always upgrade. 5> Do you require Cpanel. [ We provide the most advanced cpanel ] I like Cpanel for the convenience. Wow, I guess I rambled on a bit (a bit??). LOL. But I wanted to answer the questions!
  3. Here are some things I found on the net for free (with no adware/spyware, either!) 1st Page 2000 (a great html editor with lots of features and it's totally free!) WinPatrol (this keeps track of all the background processes, esp. if you were wondering what they were, and warns you about malicious programs running on your PC) WordWeb (a free thesaurus/dictionary, and it quietly sits in your systray for your convenience ....I can't spell so it helps, lol) Mozilla Firefox (a nice, free alternative to IE) OpenOffice (an entire office suite with word processor, spreadsheet, presentations, and it's compatible with MS Office) I like downloading from cnet's download.com or tucows because they give user ratings and reviews. I hate downloading something only to find later that it's crap.
  4. I wish the origin of my nickname was as profound as yours, microscopic^earthling. I thought the whole music part of it was cool, but the other half of it was just as nice. Mine was kinda put together on a spur-of-the-moment type deal. I was trying to get a new email addy and thought the name Lysithea was pretty for a nickname. It was Greek, and my boyfriend was Greek so I figured I'll be Greek too (dumb reason, I know), but I wanted it to stand out so I added an "e" to the beginning. Eh ...."e" for "electronic", I suppose. But it wasn't until later that I found out that Lysithea was the daughter of Oceanus in Greek myth (who was also one of Zeus' lovers .... ) Okay, weird. Err....I thought "Is it too late to change my name?" I didn't feel like it, so "Elysithea" stuck with me. See, the reasoning behind my name wasn't as cool, lol.
  5. I don't like them, either. They always manage to screw up my code for some reason. I've had problems with all the Macromedia software in the past. It could be that my computer is just too slow (believe me, it's as slow as molasses and right now I can't afford to upgrade it just yet). Does anyone use Evrsoft 1st Page 2000 or heard of it? I like it. It runs fast and has about as many features as those expensive editiors, but it's free (I don't mean to advertise, but this works for me since I'm broke). I use it for the html tidy feature (checks for errors) and it comes with a nice little library of javascript/cgi scripts you can use. Other than 1st Page, this is all the software I've ever used for website design: Notepad (for general html and quick coding) Paint Shop Pro 7 (for all my graphic design needs) CuteFTP (to upload everything) Internet Explorer 6 & Mozilla Firefox 1.0 (to test how sites look in different browsers) I haven't learned Flash yet, but I just got some Flash software the other day, so I'm going to play with it for a while and come up with something.
  6. I'm not sure if anyone else mentioned this (if they did, I probably wasn't pay attention, ) but another thing you have to be careful of are those peer-to-peer/file sharing programs. The one time I ever got a virus was when I signed up for one of those paid file sharing networks and tried to download some music (legally, mind you ). Needless to say, I learned my lesson. Never download without scanning it first (before opening it), because the second time it happened, my anti-virus caught it in time. I have my Windows XP SP2 w/firewall and only use AVG for virus scans. But I do use Ad-aware/Spybot Search & Destroy and WinPatrol (to look at suspicious processes), and stay away from those malicious sites. Although my computer has been a bit slower lately (time for a re-format?). Why'd you do that? Was it an .exe or something? Well, that was my experience. You live and learn.
  7. Eh, I just posted something that related to this (silicon being obsolete, that is). I agree with everyone else that in order for it to be practical is if it were produced cheaply. You'd probably need some expert in metallurgy or chemistry to find out what the best material would be to make them with (something that doesn't overheat, but is cheap and easy to mine).I'm going to surf the net about these nanotubes, now (this is the first I've heard of them). You've made me curious, which is good.
  8. I read about this at school and wrote a paper on it. Modern computers will soon hit their limits because silicon microchips can only process information at a certain speed. But now, scientists have discovered an entirely new medium to take micro-computing and processing speed even further: DNA. DNA molecules are able to store much more information than silicon chips can, and they have been able to solve many mathematical problems that would stump the most powerful supercomputers. The concept of using genetic material for microprocessors goes back a decade, beginning with the father of DNA computing, Dr. Leonard Adleman. In Technology Review*, the article goes into specifics on how DNA computing will pave the way for smaller computers and faster processors. However, Adleman states that at this time, scientists are unable to control molecules as efficiently as electrical engineers can control electrons. Although we probably won’t see a DNA computer-based desktop or laptop in our homes any time soon, scientists haven’t given up hope. This was the article in question if you want to read it.*Antonio Regalado. Technology Review. Cambridge: May/June 2000. Vol.103, Iss.3; pg.80It would probably be implemented in supercomputers and the sort of computers the CIA or FBI would be using. My dad works for the FBI and says they'd probably never pay that much for one, lol.
  9. I don't know if I would call myself one of those people, but I think I'd prefer the needle over this new method (even though I absolutely HATE needles). I hate to be a pessimist, but what would happen if the device malfunctioned? I think back to when my dad was in the service, and he told me about this device they used to give injections for Anthrax. It forced the vaccine through the skin using pressure of some kind (I can't remember right now, ), but if you moved while it released, it'd cut a gash into your skin. I suppose that's why they haven't approved it yet for humans. I think it's a cool idea, but at the same time I think I'd rather go with the old standby. Maybe they could reverse the process to draw blood out? I don't know, I'm not a scientist, lol.
  10. Thanks rkage, I agree... this is really helpful. oh btw, I'm new here! Hi, lol. I used to have a site that supported php/mysql, but I didn't have a clue as to how it worked. I always wanted to learn php but could never get through some of the tutorials I've found on the net. Even my cousin (who is a programmer) tried to help me, but I was still clueless. Maybe I was just too stupid that day, lol. However, I did find a few other places on the web that had tutorials on php: http://www.w3schools.com/php/default.asp (looking at this one now, although it isn't as great as the one rkage gave) I suppose this should be in the Software section, but I have problems with Dreamweaver. Maybe it's my PC or something, but it keeps crashing. I just use notepad or a word processor to type my code because I have problems with WYSIWYG editors. They always mangle my code. Eh, to each his or her own. Anyways, good luck xtron with your site!
