It all depends for me, but I think black is great for using really bright colors for text and links. White's good if you want the darker colors in your text to stand out.

I'm curious as to how you guys put together web pages. Me, I just use an interesting combination. First I go into Microsoft Word and save the document as a blank HTML file, then I add the code in Notepad (that's why I'm able to complete my web sites so quickly). Do you have any interesting ways of doing things?

I just taught myself by typing webring fragment codes onto my page and can now throw together a site in about 1-3 days. I've been designing web sites for almost 8 years

I always like to look for hosts that have no forced ads on them, so my pages won't look so cluttered (especially no pop-ups, they're just annoying). FTP is also a big thing for me so my page transfers take a lot less time to do. As well, I look for free hosts that offer mySQL and PHP because I run a fanlisting and want to use the PHP-bases scripts to make my fanlist run smoothly

I personally use a client called FTPSurfer. It's very easy to use, and the best part is that it's freeware so it's yours to keep for life!
