After the free registration process, you can invite friends to join your group and share files and folders from your hard drive with them. Grouper's pleasingly designed multipaned main interface window looks more chaotic and intimidating than it actually is, and some of the navigation buttons are a bit too small for our tastes. On the plus side, Grouper demonstrates top-notch performance; we had no trouble browsing shared libraries, listening to streamed music, or downloading files. We should note that although the application lets you freely swap most files, it disables this option for MP3s to keep potential lawsuits at bay. The inclusion of a chat feature is a definite plus, as is the built-in media player. Our main complaint with this app has to do with its slow launch--we stared at Grouper's big "G" logo for quite a while before the main interface showed up. Its clear interface makes managing shared files and downloads easy. Your shared files are organized into categories in a library section, although the program doesn't let you edit or add categories. Ares Galaxy includes features typical for filesharing clients such as file search by category or details, resumeable downloads from multiple sources, a media player with playlists, and chat. You can even host your own channel.
