  1. I dont have a good refference to give you because I have used tutorials inmy own languageand have used a lot of time finding out how to use photoshop for my purpose-->which is for photo retuch/manipulation/color....etcI could give you a turorial if you would likejust ask
  2. but remember when using photoshop that the program is used by a whole buch of diffrent user categories photoshop is a versatile and powerfull program when looking for a tutorial try searching for something related to what you want to do with photoshop -->maby you will say: I want to know photoshop in general -->well then you should start at adobe.com they made it so they will inform you on how to use it BUT because of all the different users as mentioned above they dont go in depth when regarding different technics photoshop is filled with lot of different ways of doing the exact same thing this is because of the different u.....as mentioned above so you are welcome to use photoshop anyway you want again-->remember to think about what you want to learn ; for what purpose are you using photoshop hope this helps
  3. I dont know for certain, but i think you just need to do the equation what time do you get and what time do you want what is the time difference hope you figure it out
  4. this is one of the major problems in webdesign pages beeing viewed different , and not the way you want them to be diplayed I sincerly hope there will be a solution for this issue on the interenet soon. 1-Flash is one such solution. 2-and layout of images 3-and probably more solutions exist the whole html thing got pretty messed up beeing developed but it worx, and that is what realy counts as people mention : test youre pages in different browsers and use hackz to make it work in explorer/netscape this is realy only a problem if you try using advanced html new features or scripting languages (like javascript-->it's not just the ability to see javascript on a certain client that is an issue, but also if the browser support methods and such used by the script) if you keep your code basic -> you will have no headacke (probably that is ) the two solutions mentioned--> (making an image of the webpage and making the webpage in flash) -->both have good and bad sides making an image of youre webpage this is realy straight forward- you use image editing software like photoshop and do all the pages there then you make simple html displaying the images in position this way you can be pretty sure the page looks the same whereever -problem is that you cant search text which is in the image -and those that use textbrowsers(who maby dont deserve to see youre page) making page in flash great way of making pages everything you want to do(almost) can bee done in flash (and a lot of things you did not know you could do) so there realy is no problem---> only that not everybody can wiew flash(it is not a standard) depending on who you are reaching out to with youre webpage you chose a tool can they see flash? do they use silly textbrowsers? what browsers do they use?
  5. depending on what kind of functionality you want for youre page you should maby use a databasedriven site , like mentioned only I would not use phpnuke( of personal reasons ) but there's a lot of packages like it (i've been looking closer at mamboserver.com spip.net xoops.org and others) But if you are into visual edit of webpages then keep on doing flash. things are happening right now regarding flash and database/php what you got so far look fine, only it is not that much jet what do you mean by this?
  6. anyway you understood "for this purpose" did you take a look here? http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ or do you insist doing the coding? I would be interested in a system like this myself im looking for posibilities regarding web/education/lotsofInformation/users/takeaPart/andImages
  7. this sounds interestinghave you looked into different cms made for this purpose?there should bo something made for just this.
  8. OK when you display images on a webpage you must remember that it may be displayed with different display resolution *(1600*1200/....../1024*768/800*600/....and so on) as with different browsers and different operating systems etc.) So when you design a webpage with or without images you have to consider this when making layout. You can have images in all kinds of resolutions whatever fits the situation and the webpage and the image resolution is not the only thing that is importat resolution is the pixelwidth/height filesize is the bits ofcourse and quality this verry important element which depends and is a result of the relesionship between the other two elements(rez/filez=q) this is a limited discription of the facts but its sufficent for this explanation when viewing images people tend to want to be able to actualy see them this is the only thing you realy have to worry about when making layout -what people see but displaying images in general filesize should be way under 100k on pages with other images and or other elements like text etc. in general keep images around about 10k or 20-30k depending on what kind of image only reason for this filesize issue is bandwith and storage maby it will be solved better some time in the future?! But when displaying images alone or if you want to keep and option for the user to see the image in higher resolution you can have whatever resolution you would like to give away in general for viewing images on a computer screen image resolution 1024*768 is sufficiant but if you would like make able for print you should consider higher resolution ***************************************************************** PROTECTING youre IMAGES: I dont like the idea of protecting youre images if you have gone as fare as display them you may aswell give them away let them have them if they want or maby you shouldnt have displayed them in the first place but you should maby consider what resolution of the image you give away if it is images that you plan to sell, then maby it is not a good idea to give away high resolution copys of the images but forgett about watermarking youre images and such it ruins the image thats my opinion anyway ***************************************************************** but there is lots of options available for making a web image library/gallery just google but if you want to make one youreself but dont know that much about html and all that confusing stuff Flash is a good way to go Flash mx 2004 and Flash mx 2004 professional I know has a template for a simple photo/image library/gallery Im gonna say some more about image quality when you use a digital camera or scan images from paper/film you always(almost) have the choice of filetype the standard for displaying photo on web is the verry much known jpeg/jpg (the jpg is just because of windows rather wanting 3 character file extension) jpeg is a image format which compress the image in most cases jpeg compression is lossy You may have heard of different image filetypes jpg / tiff / psd / png / gif / raw.... lamost every filetype has the option to compress the image but not all have the option to make lossless quality from original jpeg usualy does not have the option for lossless imagequality but that is not the intention of jpeg jpeg was made for compressing photo when jpeg compressing - the program in use will try to find a pattern in the image considered and make 'lossless to the eye' compression of the image. remember you can set option for what jpeg quality when saving an image in most progs. usualy 1-10 (and 6 or 7quality is sufficent for nice web display) tiff and psd and so on are formats for editing and printing images of high resolution png and gif and alike are formats for graphic and or images with ~one color parts and straight lines gif and jpg = the two formats to consider when displaying on the web when it comes to storing youre images you should consider other formats but using digital cameras u usualy get jpg format this is because that is what most people want and in most cases it is sufficiant quality on some (i couldnt say all) cameras there is an option for saving youre images in raw or tiff quality this is when you want to get the best from youre camera. but then the filesize ofcourse any way you have youre images -> when storing them and editing resaving them in differnt programs (like photoshop) you should find a way to rename the images so you can go back and forth in the history of an image. so rounding it up: display the images in the resolution they deserve dont be cheap about youre images and good luck with youre image gallery
  9. First of all you need to understand why you want to use a CMS is it because the ease of getting a webpage to work in a short amount of time is it just general interest in the posibilities you have a urge to learn more is it because you dont know how to make a webpage youre self you want the back end database ability but you dont know how to code it youre self you want the back end database ability but you dont care to use hours(months) making it youre self you want and easy interface for updating content on a webpage you just want to play around or why is it? anyway i am also testing out the abilities of mambo and would posibly recomend it (although it dont work like i want it to) because of the ease of making youre custom templates but it is beta and some concepts in mambo i find a little hard to understand right away. but the basics are great there is a new version(v.5) on its way wich will have dramatic changes to how data is organized (and maby how you configure it?! - i dont know ) but as mentioned there is a lot of alternatives It is common to test different CMS before sticking with one you will find tools / webpages (google) comparing differnt CMS ill just do som name(page) dropping http://midgard-project.org/ http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ez_publisneral/flash_cms http://www.xoops.org/ https://www.drupal.org/ http://www.fogcreek.com/ http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ http://www.spip.net/en https://github.com/AppStateESS/phpwebsite or just search http://sourceforge.net/ or alike for cms but forget about all that for a moment before you start looking at them find out why you want a CMS then you will spare youre self of much headache or if the fact is you just want to play around and learn more then it does not realy matter but if you want to there will be help on xoops just ask
  10. 11. And one little thingI did not have to buy the package myself. My Boss did that for me
  12. I've been using Macromedia Studio MX 2004 (important to include MX 2004, since ther infact is some diferrence in versions especialy when it comes to flash) I am verry happy with it probably exist other programs out there(cheaper) but.. At the time being i mainly use dreamweaver MX 2004 it is a great help when designing I could tell you many things but maby not what you are looking for. the best thing to do is to download(if you have bandwith) a 30 day trial from http://www.adobe.com/downloads.html test it and see if YOU like it but i definitely like the package what part of the package are you especialy interested in ?? if flash , then you have to consider if you need Flash MX 2004 Professional of regular. some components that are not enabled for editing in the regular version but it will get you far --> like if this is your introduction to webdesign and flash then no need for the professional version right away, you can always upgrade. ok a little review of dreamweaver MX 2004 then (refered to as dreamweaver in the rest of this note). Dreamweaver You can throw away almost every other editor/ project manager and use this one. (NO don't do it) I ocasionaly have to use notepad and sometimes it is better to use an editor specificaly made for a programing/scripting language like dreamweaver is not It highlight almost all code has great popuphelp like shortcuts to tags and attributes One of the great things with dreamweaver is that it also manage youre project / site You start with making a new site defining absolute folder and web root if you would like to test it online/ localy and then you can start putting some files into youre site realy a simple thing but it is handy the preview mode of dreamweaver is no good for getting a good impression on how it will look in a browser and that is maby not so bad(since different browsers display pages differently) I have the different browsers installed so I can test the page. but the prewiew in dreamweaver can be used for editing you can edit webpages in 2/3 modes visualy or by code or both at the same time you can past other formats (like word .doc files with tables and so on) directly into either the code or the visual layout. This i dont use that much, but can be verry handy if in lack of time I could go on for ever but lets keep a discussion insted so i neednt wrongly define how dreamweaver is working It is a realy great tool but you have to be carefull it can be misused. it is better if you know how to code i have not had any problem with ugly code being generated at large scale (only thing is filepaths that update to be absolut if I press a yes button when a dialog asking me if it want to ) but i constantly see warnings when using different tools like the CMS i am looking into right now Mambo http://www.aavictoria.org.au/ is warning me of careless dreamweaver use but if you keep youre eyes open you neednt worry. I realy like it but maby some day i will dislike it hope I did not confuse you by this post
  13. Well one thing about gmail is that a single email can not take up more than 10MBBut you could use gmail as a way of storing files you need spiltted up in <10MB size and this way be able to have access to youre files where ever... Ive just started using gmail and I am realy pleased so far what i like the most is the way the messages are displayed -->threaded and the search options i like as well and not least the big group of people who use it http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ I dont realy worry about storage space and that is important that i dont have to worry So the point is not to use the whole GB but that you neednt worry about running out of space , like problem was when using hotmail and likes
  14. A blog is a place where you can keep people updated on YOU(mostly)The POINT of a blog is to have kind of personal forum Blogs create comunities in a similar way as a forum ( like this one) only thing is the focus on one person, Im not quit shure about how to define the difference between a personal web page and a blog. But a good place to start is that blogs are updated much more often. actualy that is one of the main things about a Blog it is updated all the time like a diary you never finish writing it here is the definition from dictionary.com Definition: an online diary; a personal chronological log of thoughts published on a Web page; also called Weblog, Web log Example: Typically updated daily, blogs often reflect the personality of the author. There is a LOT of good blogs out there thake a look at https://hotornot.com/unsupported-browser this guy has a good personal webpage and uses it kind of like an advanced blog https://suneworld.com/
  15. What do you mean by this The MySQL database server is available under the MySQL AB "dual licensing" model. Under this model, users may choose to use MySQL products under the free software/open source GNU General Public License (commonly known as the "GPL") or under a commercial license. http://www.mysql.com/products/ What is the copyright on PostgreSQL? PostgreSQL is subject to the following COPYRIGHT: PostgreSQL Data Base Management System Portions Copyright © 1996-2005, PostgreSQL Global Development Group Portions Copyright © 1994-6 Regents of the University of California Permission to use, copy, modify, and distribute this software and its documentation for any purpose, without fee, and without a written agreement is hereby granted, provided that the above copyright notice and this paragraph and the following two paragraphs appear in all copies.....the above is the BSD license, the classic open-source license. It has no restrictions on how the source code may be used. We like it and have no intention of changing it. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ I have known about postgreSQL for a long time but i have never gotten around to use it. I know of huge organizations who use postgreSQL as their database platform for web and more so there must be something about it (dont you think ) i remember something about image functions im not shure what it is but that the capabilities is better with postgreSQL when i t comes to images??? or am I totaly wrong
  16. HELLO!wich one is better? this is a silly question. it is like asking if you prefer a formula-1 car or a station waggon. If you pick the formula-1 racing car you will get hell on maintanance or even to get the car going. you will need a whole team of helpers (just like with a PC) and you are not allowed to drive it where ever you want because of the extreme capabilities if you pick the station waggon you will be on the road right away Im not gonna argue the betters of the F-1 or the PC you get the picture. A formula-1 car like a computer demands a high level of expertise this fact is one of the main reasons why it thakes so long to get everybody(the rest of the people in the world) into the digital world. there should be more consoles for different uses we need people who like it easy. to remind us that we should not wast time on things we have no use of -- Am Heimcomputer sitz' ich hier Und programmiert die Zukunft mir
