  1. I have been running these settings for quite some time now with no problems. The start delay setting I would not recomend to anyone with a slower computer because in the end it will just slow things downthose of you using windows xp can greatly inprove the start time of firefox by making it prefetch. All that you have to do is put "/Prefetch:1" minus the quotes at the end of the target box in the short cut.

  2. Personaly, I prefer the Intell CPU's over the AMD's. I tend to use a computer untill it breaks and intell CPU's just last longer by a long shot. I am running a 166mhz and a 233mhz Intell box right now with linux on them. The chip itself is mutch more durable with the heat spreader on it making it less likely to break during an instalation. I allso like the way that the company is run better. They give more money to education than AMD.

  3. Best browser is lynx, just kidding. I have been using Firefox since 0.4 or 0.5 and havent had any major issues. One of the things that I like about it is the fact that if you come across a bug you can tell them about it and you know that they will get right on it. I had a roomate that would use IE on my computer and I would have 200+ peices of spy/add ware a week. I deleted the icon so that he would use Firefox and it droped to about 10 or 20. Its not just the fact that its not maintstream(very close to being mainstream), just that Firefox makes you agree to install anything. You may have the files but they are just in temp folders. ps. If you have problems with Firefox load time and run XP put /Prefetch:1 behind the application call in the shortcut. it will prefetch the program and make it load allmost instantly. Only problem is that evry page you had open before will come up when you load the program.

  4. I realy like the personalized search. Now whenever I want to search for something I dont have to sift through off topic things all the time. The Voice search I dont get the reasoning behind. What is the point? If you can dial a phone you can type on a keyboard.

  5. With the amount of time that the spinrite took to run I imagine it rebuilt your Master File Table. I am wondering if there might not be some sort of disk error in the Master File Table. It is very likely that all of the diagnostics programs that you have run could have missed them. The only way to truely find out would be a low level format :) Did you ever give Knopix a try. I can still read the info on my dead hard drive with it. It seems that this a more comon problem than I thought. I ran into a guy today with the same problem with his laptop harddrive. You would think with a problem this comon there would be a site about it or something.

  6. Lynx is an old text based browser. It is very useful to be compatible with this browser if you plan for your site to be accesed by the visualy impaired. Most of the equipment for reading text on the web out loud is done through the Lynx browser. Another of the lesser known but still fairly comon browser's is the Off-by-One browser. It is an ultra light weight and extreemly fast web browser. It is very usefull if you are on a slow dial up conection.

  7. I dont know about all of the cryterea together because I have had either a fast hard drive with short life or a slow one with long life. I have an old seagate that is horibly slow and noisy but it has been steadily pumping out reliable data for about 7 years. on the other hand I have had Maxtors with blazing speed and had to return sevral of them under warinty for replacement. My last one died about 2 months out of warinty. I have now switched to Hitache/IBM. I havn't had it long enough to say anything about durability, but it is defanatly fast and quiet.

  8. [age range?] 23[amount of time online in this community/week?] Depends on time that I have reversed. Less time I have more I spend here. Average about 3-4 hours a week[occupation?] Student, Bum [country?] US[native language?] English[number of web communities you actively participate?] 4[how should this community be moderated?] levels of power with a number on it, if any thing is to question every one votes and the numbre is the power of the vote.[Other than free hosting, is there anything else that keeps you active here?] Interesting topics and people with a lot of good answers tough wuetions.

  9. I have a portable MP3 cd player that I use to play MP3's in my car. That is all that I have right now. I would like to build myself a MP3 jukebox for my car with a touchscreen and the works that plays all the codecs. I just dont have the money for the parts at the moment.

  10. Ouachita River? Isn't that somewhere in Arkansaw? Seems like I remember gong on a camping holiday with my parents when I was about 8 to the Ouachita River. Oh, then again, I thought there was an Ouachita in Oklahoma?

    Anyway ... nice nick.

    cheers

Thats the one. I was raised a little further down the river from there in Louisiana, but it is still butiful nun the less. There are calendars produced yearly of nothing but pictures of the Ouachita river.

  11. I voted c/c++ but I allso like asm a lot. You dont see that one evryday I bet, but by main use for programing is microcontrollers with extremly limited resorces. asm gives you more controll over what you are doing inside. I am learning java right now at school and it has some nice features, and some things that I dont like to mutch about it so I am still not exactly sure where I stand on it. As for theh rest I dont know enough about them accept pascal, witch to me is useless, to make a dicision on.

  12. With Open Ofice you can do it seamlessly from the document that you have created to PDF. It is very simple to do and gives you the option to save it in many diferent qualities. It will allso open virtualy any other format of documen written. I gues that is my advertisement.

  13. Most university libraries allready have some books digitized through pay services that they subscribe to. I have tried to use this before, but it is very dificult to read for long periods of time of of a CRT. Even My personal one here at the house will start to hurt your eyes after a while, and it is a very good quality CRT. LCD monitors do help but it is still un comfortable. The paperless ofice never developed because people cant sit infront of a computer and read long pasages. Paper is just easier on the eyes. That is why you dont see more e-books today. I believe that if someone would make a reasonably priced, light weight, and easy to read document reader with enough memory to hold a couple of books, magazines, and a newspaper that this e-books would take off at an astonishing rate.
