  1. So, if anyone uses any, what is the best FREE html generator/web design soft?
  2. yeah, you can use the windows command line for FTP stuff, but its really a pain. just about any gui ftp client is better than that.
  3. I have always liked LeapFTP. Simple, easy, fast, but not a lot of frills. mainly I used it cause it just did what I needed to when I needed an FTP client back in the day.
  4. Of course there is a half life 3 coming. They will keep making them until they stop making money or get so bored they can't stand it anymore. So yeah, there will probably be a half life 5 in like 20 years.
  5. The best free email I have ever found is fastmail.fm. I use their accounts as my primary ones in fact, because they have excellent imap access. They also work well as throw away accounts as well as anonymous accounts.
  6. well, I don't know of any backdoor password. However, you may be able to reset it by flashing it to a new version, or flashing it back to 'default'. Check to see if there is a new bios version available, and check to see if there is a reset to default flash option somewhere from either pheonix or fujitsu.
  7. There is good music coming out, just not on the radio(at least in america). Here, only a couple of radio companies control the radio, and they go for the few artists that have mass appeal(which tends to all sound the same and be crap). So its not like good music doesnt come out, it just isn't the photocopied crap on the radio. If you wanna find good bands, go find an independent music store. The people who work there often as not have their ear to the ground and know whats coming down the line thats good, even obscure stuff. If one local store just has a bunch of useless people running it, find another store. if you only have one store nearby....i pity you.
  8. I am better at the graphic design. Both can be learned, but coding is usually much easier since you can 'explain' how to program whereas with graphic design it usually takes a ton of experience no matter what. Also, if you learn programming well enough, you can create cool graphics that way. Granted, at that point you have basically taken just as much time as learning graphics the direct way, but now you know both. Sure wish I took that route
  9. Well, I use both. I have a PC desktop and a Mac laptop. I think this is one of the better arrangements. I use the PC desktop for gaming and for all the different pieces of software that come out. For my laptop, I use the Mac. I use my laptop to get work done, not play games. Few laptops are good for games and also good as portable computers, at least to the degree I need. Macs don't crash with OSX, and they don't get viruses, and they don't get spyware. So, for having a computer I put my work and data on, its perfect. As a desktop machine....if you do print or publishing or graphics or film/video editing then the mac is the correct choice. Otherwise not so much. One thing to be aware of is that while the mac doesn't have the AMOUNT of software as the PC, the software out there for it tends to be of higher quality. If you are a person who pays for your software, then in many ways difference in the cost of the computer will rapidly be made up in other factors(like software, the continual productivity vs. dealing with things crashing, and so on). But yeah, if you a person who doesn't need supreme mobility and likes to play games, don't get a mac. If you are like me and need something that gets 5 to 6 hours of battery life, WHILE DOING WORK, not just sitting there, and need something that wont give you any crap, then a mac laptop is a good choice, since the ibooks are not much more expensive(the low end ones are very cheap for the hardware actually). For a desktop, only go mac if you do video editing or serious graphics work.
  10. If you are going to make games, the thing to learn and use is C++. It has excellent compilers, and mature development environments. Also, it tends to be pretty standard in the gaming world.
  11. Cool. What IDE are you using? or are you even using one?
  12. well, releases don't come out for consoles first. It depends on the game. Things like GTA are console based games, so they come out for consoles first. Other games start on the PC and are slowly ported to consoles. For me, the PC is the best choice. These days, a cheap PC will play most games, and you have a HUGE library to choose from. Go to a PC store like CompUSA in the states and there are older PC games for like 10 bucks. Some of the older games are fantastic as well. Then there are the emulators. Any game up through almost the playstation 1 can be run on your PC. Even the few good N64 games are available(for free, though its not very legit). On the other hand, Consoles don't give you any BS. Windows games usually install just fine, but unless you have a powerfull machine, you really don't know how well it will run(or even if it will run, some games are still released rather buggy). Linux doesn't have many games, though that is changing. Be that as it may, linux is still a pain to deal with until you have a lot of experience with it. The Mac is about the state of linux for number of games, but easier to deal with. So, your windows pc is the only real option(especially since some games demand directx, which you won't get anywhere else). With a console all of that stuff is gone, just buy the game, put it in, and play. For the casual gamer, this fact plus the long term cheaper costs make it a good option. the only problem then is which system to buy.
  13. Kinda, the non-firefox Mozilla comes pretty close. The Safari team and the Mozilla team trade a lot of code, or so I hear.
  14. my point was that, as bad as windows is, Microsoft is the only person with access to the source. Open source attempts to run windows as an emulator have only been so-so in terms of success. I am sorry you hate macs, I wonder why. Pre OSX I would understand, because back then they were terrible. I hated them too, but they have improved a ton the last year or so.
  15. I actually use photoshop 7 since I don't have the money to upgrade. Still, photoshop is fantastic.I haven't had a chance to use fireworks, though I have heard good things about it.
  16. I personally like dreamweaver. The one main problem is that, for me at least, it tends to feel sorta sluggish. But then again, do you really need a blazing hyped-up text editor?
  17. not for me, cause I have like 25Gigs of music on my desktop. Granted, I only would really want to bother with about 10 of that most of the time. So, 20 gigs of storage would be great for music + files.sadly, none of the players on the market do what I need them to.
  18. frankly, Windows OS's have basically been getting more stable but not more usefull for a while. I don't really like linux GUIs, but they are at least cleaner. The new MS OSs that keep coming out just seem to get in my way a lot. They also need better network and admin tools, not to mention speed increases. Right now, they go for flash vs. fucntional. What I want is intuitive and functional. when they do that, then I will take flashy, provided it doesn't make things slow.
  19. According to my physicist friends, time travel only sorta works. Basically, you could travel back and forth in time, but could not go before the creation of the first time machine. so, all the stuff in the past till the time of the first time machine is off limits. As for religion and science not mixing, that isn't necessarily true(though its hard). The key is to take religion as not a set of things that are true, but a series of stories and ideas that will help us handle the complexity of life, and allow us to hopefully lead fuller more successfull and happier lives.Religion should not be a 'belief system', but a system of practice to become a better specimen of the human species. That is why I am a buddhist. But thats just my opinion.
  20. I listen to some random stuff like Atom and his package, Machinae Supremacy(they put their MP3s on their webpage to download, go check em out), and such.
  21. ok, question for everyone. Why do people cling to religion to give them answers, when it sometimes tells them things they know to be false? Why is it so hard to see all spiritual works as a parable about our existence? And finally, why do people think parables are such a big deal that you should go around killing each other over them??
  22. oh kay..............Yes, bush is insane and generally stupid. But I think you are seeing a bit much to it all. What it comes down to is that the majority of the american public are sheep who have no clue whatsoever what is going on at home or abroad. Its sad, but its true. The only hope I have is that the things that bush does will finally wake them up. [hope!]
  23. Sigh, too late now. You can only hope that some form of fraud is found in Ohio or FloridaCheck out http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ at least a little likely[hope!]
  24. Eminem, Britney Spears, and whatever boyband is currently turing.
  25. Did anyone else see the brawl in the pistons game a week ago? That was crazy(not to mention hilarious).
