How long ago did you make that site? Because with today's abilities and such, the worst sites around look about as good as that. I hope you've improved... what do recent sites look like?

Swish is pretty good for starters, but Flash MX is the best for making Flash. It is probably the only one that allows you to use all of the capabilities of Flash.

Well, first, what image program(s) do you have? If it's a good one, you can just put together the site layout in the program, then separate the images into the template and then do the HTML for it.

Well, Blackbird, thanks for reading the whole topic before posting something stupid. Anyways, thanks for the suggestions; I'll be checking into those soon, although right now isn't a good time. I'll tell you what I think about them when I've tried 'em out a bit.

Does anyone know of a good free vector program like Illustrator? I would be eternally grateful (for a while).

What's Photohop and Photophop? Anyways, Photoshop is an excellent program, but indeed it is expensive. I have tried a few other great programs, namely Micrografx Paint Shop (or something like that), ArcSoft PhotoStudio, Adobe Illustrator and, of course, Macromedia Fireworks. All great programs, but I like Photoshop the best, and Illustrator is next in line.

Google seems to be monopolizing much less than Yahoo or MSN, but that's probably because it's newer. Anyways, I think Google is a great search engine, and your accounts were probably deleted because you don't understand basic punctuation! [/strong Bad's daily rant]

The background destroys it. The links would be easier to follow if it was on the left, since links are usually to the left and ads are usually to the right. But I like the orange color, it's just hard to follow. I would suggest a lighter background, then you should be fine.

I use WS_FTP LE, but as was said, they don't use that anymore. If you get desperate, usually hosting come with either an FTP client or a file manager that can do the same things. CuteFTP is good, but it's not free; same thing with WS_FTP Pro.

In my opinion, learning HTML coding and using Notepad is better than any web design programs. But if you don't want to learn HTML, then... well, I've never used anything else except trying out Dreamweaver, so..

Well, the problem with frames is that it creates an extra scroll bar, and also usualluy an ugly seperator bar. It really depends mostly on what you put in your frame- whether it gets in the way or you have to scroll through more than one frame. As for iframes, they move with the page and usually help keep the page at a functional size (I.E. the old dotmanandbob.com, which I would show you if I still did that site...) Anyways, people just like simplicity and ease of use, and frames tend to thwart efforts for both.

I've been looking for a good free MMORPG. Is there one out there? Maybe free and good MMORPG are contradictory to each other too much. Anyways, I was told about PristonTale, but I've never been able to get it to work. (I downloaded an older version which took hours on DSL, but it wouldn't work on my comp. Then I got more RAM, and the patch wouldn't work... so maybe if I downloaded the full version...) MMORPGs are the coolest idea ever!

I know about frames and iFrames, but I'm not sure what you mean. Could you be more specific? (As for frames, I think frames are pretty much a no-no right now, but iframes are good.)

Seriously, man! MMORPG's seem to have just sprung up recently. It's like PHP or ASP, etc. A few years ago, that would have been a fantasy to have automatically generated pages. But now, there are message boards, portals, and all other kinds of automatically generated pages!Anyways, back to the subject. I would suggest just finding games in the genre you are thinking of creating and playing those for ideas. Or, like Hellfire said, assemble a team to help you, and have the team help you with an idea. I'm sure someone who's actually helping with the game would be more motivated to come up with good ideas than just someone who feels like coming up with an idea for the heck of it.

No kidding! And it always adds tons of extra coding that you don't want (like what happens when you save a Works document as an HTML file). I don't even know why people use that junk! My school site uses it, and I could hardly figure out how their coding worked, it was so messy! It had the weirdest tables I've ever seen. But honestly, any novice on an automatic HTML program like that is bound to make some ugly HTML and also ugly pages resulting from the bad HTML. That's why Notepad is the best! It's pretty much guaranteed to be cleaner and easier to space the HTML to your liking for ease of editing.

Once you get the hang of it, CSS is really easy. And it's not very hard to learn, either. I learned CSS from https://www.wired.com/ (in fact, I learned just about everything I know from there). It's a great site with some simple but good tutorials to start with. And they have an HTML cheatsheet that comes in handy for people like me who forget simple HTML codes.

When it comes to hexing, (lol) I usually use Photoshop to make my images, then just use the dropper tool or the color select tool to find the color I want, and it gives me the hex code for it. And since my HTML is usually pretty simple (but effective), I don't bother with advanced coders. Escpecially since they don't have the full functionality that testing with IE does. (For instance, a Javascript I was using for the menu didn't show on Dreamweaver).

As long as everyone keeps trying to beat each other out, the consumers will be the ultimate winners. I say, let IE keep going so that the other programs have something to beat and to become better than. As for those other programs, I tried opera but was confused by the layout, but I might just try out Firefox and maybe some other ones soon.

Dreamweaver is a great HTML editor. It's especially handy because you can connect it with other Macromedia programs easily, like Flash. As for me, I use good ol' Notepad for my web sites. Notepad and Photoshop, that's all ya need!

PHP wins hands-down. It's faster, has limitless possibilities, can be embedded in HTML (can ASP do that? I'm not sure...) and is the leading language in webforum and weblog sites and applications. It is easy to learn (although I haven't got very far, but that's my fault) and it has database connectivity. Plus, Microsoft is stupid.

It all depends on what kind of site you're running. I mean, a site like HomestarRunner.com pretty much has to have flash. But if it's just a website for information, Flash can make the load times too big and mess it up. Sure, Flash looks good if you do it right, but when it comes to faster load times or moving pictures, speed wins.
