  1. IMHO programming and design can both be learnt. Some of us have a natural proclivity one way or the other and naturally lean towards 'programming' type endeavours or 'design' type endeavours. But let's be clear folks - knowing what a paintbrush does should not be confused with knowing how to paint a masterpeice
  2. Oops! I'm showing my age - I thought CMS stood for Customer Management System so I didn't even read that post . Thanks for the heads up - have now read Honeycombs responses and back in the hunt. Cheers!
  3. What OS are you using r3D? You might be able to employ a software solution for mapping the Print-Screen function of your keyboard to another key or key-combination but wouldn't it just be easier all round to replace your keyboard? Then there's always the option of pulling your keyboard apart to see what's causing the malfunction (if you haven't already?) but in my humble experience doing so usually makes matters worse LOL. Hope you get sorted
  4. I'm interested in setting up my own blog site and have toyed with a couple of offerings but I figure someone out there might have some sage advice on what best meets my (humble) needs..Initially I'd like to test the software on my own system which is Win32 running Apache2, PHP 4.3.8 and MySQL. I'd ideally like to have my musings etc stored on a dbase and some measure of control over security and look-n-feel stuff. Something that makes use of CSS but not necessarily all singing all dancing..just a calendar, a place to write entries, maybe a sidebar with some links to favourite sites/other blogs I browse and that's about it - oh, and maybe room for reader comments too! And all this in an open source offering preferrably. Asking too much? Any feedback, sugegstions gratefully received.
  5. I've used Windows since it's long ago days as Windows 3.1 and through it's many morphs to my current OS of Windows XP Home Ed. I recently took the bait and decided to try out Xandros OS a Debian distribution of Linux. I read the blurbs and reviews and figured as a Linux newbie it sounded like the best bet for ease of installation and overall use. I'm sorry to say that my experience was not a good one. Software installation fast became a nightmare of shell scripting, builds, makes and make installs and other esoteric processes as opposed to good old Install Wizards in Windows! I also had the whole OS crash on me on several occassions - so much for reliability and stability! OK maybe it's just that I'm more attuned now to the vaguaries of Windows having not only used it personally for many years but having administered Windows networks for a good few years also but the 'out of the box' experience I had with Xandors did not endear Linux to me as a home OS.Now I just know this post is gonna generate some responses (well I hope so!) but let me be clear - I have grown up with Windows and am now well past the heady days of command-line installations and batch scripts. I LIKE clicking on the install icon and just clicking a button in response to clear prompts. I don't want to become a Linux guru - I like the idea of open source anything and I really like the idea of competition in the market place for OS's but surely Linux can offer something better than this users experience?! If anyone can point me to a Linux distribution more suited to my stated (and I feel humble) I will gladly revisit and (possibly) review my opinion re what's the best OS!
