  1. I think it was Office 2003 that was horrible version, can't remember though, although 2007 was a great improvement because of Vista. I have to say 2010 has been the best version Microsoft has ever put out or rather the first time they actually got the suite right for once. Of course, its online features are definitely great especially since they added a Facebook application to 2010 and so it makes it a lot easier then using skydrive for uploading documents and what not.Of course, I would hope that Google Docs would spend some time with it and add some more features to their suite and give it a face lift as well.

  2. In short life, I been here a good five years, through many changes, updates, new people coming in and old people leaving. To be honest why I left, the complaining and lack of patience, and the school yard fights between members. When I first joined it was mostly teenagers who were here, heck 95% of the members are teenagers, of course the smart ones grow up and go to school and get off the internet. Although my other theory are social networking websites and Google being able to answer all your questions.Still am surprise I am a Mod, granted I did the duties as such but the I use to have is no longer there.Granted I have enough MyCents were I don't have to ever come back for good decade so there is that too.

  3. I prefer either or, but I since I only have premium it is good enough for me. However, if I wanted to upgrade my machines I would go as far as the business version since it is more practical for my needs and of course it has Virtual XP. Of course, XP still has a long shelf life thanks to the hate Vista got and still has, however, because of how Windows 7 has been running for me at least. I want to see people start switching over to it, not because of IE9, but it is more stabled and more secure then one would think.

  4. One of the biggest headaches for most web designers is SEO or Search Engine Optimization, and the reason is that is because the major search engines have different ways to index websites. Of course, there are plenty of CMS software such as Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal that have SEO built in, but if your building a straight website then your in luck. SEO Warrior written by John Jerkovic, gives an intensive look how to understand and code SEO into your websites. This book is 18 chapters long and so it is definitely a long reading in order to get a good grasp on using SEO in your website. This book covers such things as link building, keywords, social networking, robots, web stats, and rankings to name a few. Right away I think the most important sections that readers should read in this book is SEO Traps, Social networking, SEO marketing, sitemaps, and content. I would rate those as must read chapters in order to understand what SEO consists of, however, because this book covers a lot in SEO using this book to begin the SEO phase of your website is definitely necessary. On the other hand, if your using software with built in SEO then your already halfway there, but in order to understand what is going on with Wordpress and Joomla I recommend having this book around in order to get a better idea to use SEO more effectively.Overall, this book is loaded with great information and a must have if your working on websites for other people or building a social networking heavy website that includes such websites like Twitter and Facebook. So grab yourself a copy and begin the wonderful world of SEO.

  5. One of the biggest things going on right now in the web design world is HTML5, a lot sites have either converted or about to convert to one of the most simplified languages out there. Of course, there is a lot new things HTML5 has to offer and of course a lot things either removed or giving an interesting update to be more effective in web design. In order to understand what is going on with HTML5 you best start your book collection to get a good idea what is going on in order to use HTML5 properly and quickly. The book that I am going to discuss is HTML5 Designing Rich Internet applications by Matthew David in which he covers a lot on what HTML5 has to offer including JavaScript, various AJAX libraries, and CSS. He also provides a lot code within his application examples such as forms, slideshows, CSS layouts, audio, video and more. After reading this book you will understand that HTML5 supports quite a few technologies and in fact replaces a lot of code that has been developed over the last ten years. I would have to say the most\t important sections of book include SVG support, Canvas, CSS, structuring of websites, the latest depreciated code, and of course forms themselves. I would have to say that this book is a good starting point in learning how to code for HTML5 and after that any other HTML5 books would worth looking at. Such as Programming for the Mobile Web, HTML5 Designing Rich Internet applications, and even HTML5: Up and Running. So I definitely recommend the pick up as the Latest generation of browsers, FF4, IE9, Chrome 7, Safari 5 support a good portion of HTML5 to begin building rich websites.

  6. Yes it will start when you reboot and of course it will start when you turn the machine on each time which is recommended. However, since it is a fast little program it shouldn't bother you all too much since the only way to turn it off would to be uninstalling it, but since it turns off a lot of the programs at boot it is a very small price to pay for a faster computer.

  7. Then could they be considered chaotic then? If your thinking in terms of mathematics then that maybe true, but outside the box then chaos is nothing but randomness. Granted there maybe a few exceptions such as comets and asteriods, however, throw in gravity and of course getting knocked off course by another object and that objects "destiny" is no longer determined. I will agree choas as a structure but trying to bring order ouy of chaos will no longer make it chaotic, it will just fall into one of many categories we will determine that person, place or thing it should be in.

  8. This. No other operating system is as easy to use and user-friendly as Windows. Plus their resources in terms of pure cash are large enough for them to pay off other companies to support them and only them (which is one of the reasons most game companies only support Windows, via DirectX, instead of using OpenGL which is basically the same but is cross-platform).
Due to those reasons alone it really doen't matter how much better any other OS gets; it will never be able to compete with Windows.

Well there was Windows ME and of course Windows Vista in which they were not user friendly and created more problems then there should have been. However, other factors came into play as to why Microsoft has dominated the Operating system business and that includes both hard and software support and the biggest one PC customization. User interface and user friendliness are big factor as well, but if Apple were to open up its OS like Microsoft has then it would be different story.

  9. That's not solving the problem. That's avoiding the problem. :/ Which tends to be the way it shouldn't be, they should fix it, or allow us to fix us it ourselves, which is something Microsoft won't do. :( Let's hope they fix it or change it before the final release. :(

Tabs are a superficial feature and since your concerned about how tabs should displayed is a bit silly then do not use the browser it is that simple. Also try changing your screen resolution and maybe you can fit in more tabs in which you can see the text better.

I actually like it that way, It's takes less space but you can reduce it to favicon size if you want. I think Chrome's UI is the best so far... I'm so addicted to chrome that I haven't used another browser regularly for months now.

I think Chrome is trying to play anti-hero in response to all the things you can do with Firefox and in a way make it a bloadted browser with all those extensions and features and what not. So Chrome went with a new direction and that being space, speed, and security, though the latter is usually the biggest priority for everyone involved in the browser business. However, I think the less is better angle seems to be a big thing since only Microsoft has switch to such a concept. Safari, Opera, and of course Firefox haven't gone with the minimalist theme, but odds are if you were to find a Firefox theme in their library then maybe its possible. Odds are though that Firefox won't try for a minimalist them until FF5.

I'm confused about what this "acid test" thing is. Does this just judge speeds?
And if so, what about the memory footprint?

I'm using an older PC right now and prefer Chrome as sites load faster on it, however I recently found out it's using significantly more RAM than IE does (by a huge margin -- about 2 to 3x as much). I hate IE but I'm forced to use it for quite a few things because otherwise I keep having issues due to the lack of RAM.

The acid tests are about rendering various scripts and code and if rendered correctly then its a happy face or 100/100 score. Go here to read more about it to get a better understand on what the Acid Tests are about.

I have no interest of ever downloading IE9, from looking at the screenshots I can tell this is just another failure from Microsoft.
With Chrome 7 coming out, which Google claims will be 60 times faster then the already insanely fast version, Microsoft has no hope of EVER competing with Chrome. or even Firefox for that matter.

Well if your an XP user and do not plan on getting into the web design or web developing gig then that is fine. However, if your a **cough** Vista or Windows 7 user it is better to go with IE9 as it is more web standard then IE7 or 8. The same goes with being a web developer/designer because you need to be able to check your websites against browsers and make sure nothing looks out of place. Granted there are rendering websites and programs that can do it for you, but I prefer running it through the browser itself.

  10. Like anwiii said there are only a few reasons for a topic to be deleted and with your example, you can request to add something to your original posts but it wouldn't make much sense if other people have replied to it and so it just makes common sense to make another post to add any additional comments to your post and of course respond to other peoples posts. As for why users cannot delete their own posts and topics is the delete option is universal, meaning you be able to delete anyone's topics or posts either because you don't like what they have said or don't like the person in general. Again like anwiii already stated any topics or posts that are deleted the amount of Mycents earned in those posts will be removed as well and since there is a time limit on which you can edit your posts make sure it is what you want to say before hitting submit.

  11. I won't beat to death the antivirus software since it all depends what you want, but with other security measures you want to make sure OS is updated with the latest patches, your other software is up to date as well. The best way to do that is download and install File Hippo as it will let you know you the latest updates for all software you have running on your computer. As for security with the internet just be smart about it, do not visit questionable websites, make sure you know the person sending you the email or download, and of course just stay away from torrents as most of them are booby trapped with some sort of nasty program. Used 10-15 digit passwords, do not display any personal information that you don't want everyone to see, this is especially important for you Facebook users and other social networking websites that you might use.

  12. To step away from the math of chaos, if you to look at planets again they are neither perfect spheres nor are their poles straight up and down. Earth is angled at a 23 degrees, but the problem is you really can't tell regardless of how far away you are from the planet because of perception of that sphere says otherwise. Chaos does exist but there are many forms of it, chaos in the human genome, chaos in animal species, chaos in the universe they exist because not everything is predetermined. Yes there is beginning and and end, however, logic dictates that are known and unknown various that determine both the beginning and the end and thus you have your chaos.

  13. Correction - It's not a lot like Chrome, its the best features of Firefox and Chrome and Opera that are put together. Consider the BIG BACK BUTTON from firefox, small space taken by Chrome and start up page with website panels from Opera.

The new browser is also very, very fast to start up in Windows 7 (i think it preloads it or something) and you can combine it with Windows 7, and use jumplists, pin websites to taskbar, etc. that you can't do with any other browser. So, Microsoft has the advantage on the OS -- the biggest advantage it has.

The loading time in IE9 is faster than or fast as Firefox but not faster than Chrome. Some websites take a second to load and some take like 10-20 seconds. It's pretty unstable right now, but Microsoft has promised to fix that in the Final version. IE9 Beta also hangs ALOT and sometimes it just gets stuck for no reason and than you have to "end process" on it. Thats why I'm not using it full time -- yet.

I did the ACID3 test (yea, I did them from http://acid3.acidtests.org/ cause I don't trust reviews :D ) and turns out that Chrome got a score of 100, Opera - 100, Firefox 3 (didn't test 4 beta) - 93 and IE9 Beta- 95. BUT Microsoft also said that they will bring IE9 to 100 soon. IE9 loads HTML5 beautifully, way better than Chrome or anything else... the second best part.

All we can do for now is just wait and see the Final versions of Firefox 4 and IE9... Chrome and Opera updated a little more than a week ago. So, I think this is going to be slow. And who knows? IE9 might pick itself outta the ashs. :)

BTW - I'm not gonna even vote in that *BLEEP* poll... and if anybody is gonna rule the world, its probably Google. :P

I would have to agree Microsoft took the best of the browsers and put it together in terms of speed, rendering and of course window space.

I am bit surprise you didn't check out my topic about the acid tests, and of course HTML 5 test results as well because you be surprise how far behind IE9 is in rendering HTML 5. Which means Microsoft still has a lot of work to go in order to get that 100 in the Acid 3 test, and scary enough I think they need a year or two to get most of what HTML 5 has to offer in current generation browsers.

As for picking itself out of the ashes is not going to happen, the damage has been done in those 5 years and of course with Microsoft reputation, I doubt they will see too many points in the one year after IE9 is released. However, I will say that a lot of the problems when it comes to web design will finally disappear since IE9 is on par to be web standard browser instead of them doing their own thing.

    Hello there,

I am been testing IE 9 just under a week now and find it a little unreliable. The speed seems to be fine though still not as fast as good chrome. I like the new features such as the Disable Addons faster speeds and it explains any addons you may run inside of IE will slow down and page showing quicker and tells you the amount of time it adds on before it loads. I also like the new tab starting page that seems to stand out from other browsers. I like the new toolbar up top seems to be more modern and looks great in Windows 7 and Vista then again you are not able to try this if you are on Windows XP. Some of my popular websites I visit and even my own blogs do not display correctly which is rather annoying as they do in all other browsers.

    That's me finished :).

Well, you could say it is a marketing ploy of Microsoft to get people to update to Windows 7 and sadly everyone should and as much as I enjoyed Windows XP and how easy it was to use, Windows 7 is just 100 times better and 1000 times better then Vista.  As for websites not showing up correctly, bad coding practices are to blame for that and if coded properly then they might show up correctly.

Seems that Windows 7 got a quite "good" OS which is stable and usable, also it seems that IE9 might be a good browser and it can be enough for simple people using a computer, somehow it seems that Microsoft is moving the right path with some software? It seems that even their antivirus software Microsoft Security Essentials is quite good? Sometimes when I think about it, they made something not as bad as they used to?

To go a little bit of topic, I started to like how Microsoft started to work, as they seemed to start loosing the market, as most Linux distros were better than XP and maybe Vista, but what I am seeing now, that most of people started using Windows 7 and seems they are happy :D

I just hate that in the past several years there were IE7, IE8, IE9, a lot of new versions :D They seem to release IE8 and after a few days they announce that IE9 is in development? Even though in these several years Firefox 1 has gone up to version 4, but didn't feel a lot of difference to change it's version except some additions and maybe an updated Gecko engine?

Even though I am used to Opera, I will continue to use Opera and Chrome, but it's good for new people, it's good that new people will start using IE9 which will show the web for them like it needs to be showed and not like it was with IE6. :'D

Well Windows 7 is to XP as Vista was to ME and since this browser was built for Windows 7 it should definitely hold its own. Granted I don't use it myself even though I give it much praise as a web designer, but as a computer user I want to see how secured it is before making such a commitment. However, I have never been a big fan of their add-ons, because quite frankly their selection sucks and that was another big reason why I switch to Firefox/Chrome.

When it comes to Security I wouldn't even trust Microsoft best security experts and that was another major factor in why IE lost much of its points. As for the number of versions if you were to go through all the updates Firefox releases in the last few years, they released more browsers than anyone else.

To get really anal about this, from FF3 to FF3.10, Mozilla release 40 new versions of FF3, granted they were all updates and patches, however, they were individual browsers because of the new version number that got attached to them.

It just not good for new people it is good for everyone, but hopefully they revampted the browser security and maybe it will better for everyone.

  14. I have a far better and quicker solution then the MSconfig option, download and installl Soluto, restart your computer and let the program run. Once it tells you how long it takes for your computer to boot up, open up the program and it will lists all the processes that are run during boot. I would go through the list carefully but it should be fairly easy to see which processes you will pause and which ones to delay. Best way to use this is see what is being recommend for each program and by the time your done going through the process you should see a faster boot.

  15. Nope it doesn't exist and I have a feeling why too and that being there are literally trillions of links on the internet and to create a file like that would take way to long. There are no programs or software that I am aware of that auto generates links that you can be bookmarked and so you would have to do it the old fashion way and that is of manually adding the link to your browser.

  16. I wonder sometimes, regardless of what I am doing or what I see and hear I try to find perspective on it or rather I try to find out if I can attach it to me in anyway. Granted, not everything works out the way but there is always some little thing that finds it way into your subconscious. Of course, it is in my dreams that it becomes something bigger when I least suspect it. They say your dreams are trying to tell you something or rather give you a vague image that you have to figure out. Sometimes I wish I could stop dreaming altogether because I feel my life would be a lot easier, problem is though you just can?t turn off your brain and so you have to deal with it. Such as dealing with life?s problems, there is no way around them and regardless if you found a shortcut, you still have to deal with it. It makes me wonder what life was like when man first became aware, what were we thinking at the time. I highly doubt we were thinking about making bombs, killing people, or even enslaving them, but rather they were trying to survive the harsh reality. Sadly, though those things that I mention became part of that survival.I remember a great book called the Giver, in this book society was completely controlled, everyone was assign jobs when they became of age, parents were given children from birthing mothers. However, later in the book, a boy would discover the truth and it was a harsh truth because none of the people felt emotions. You could say they were like the Vulcan?s from Star Trek, they existed but were so far repressed that they only could be described. Of course, the other harsh reality was that anyone who was sick or old, they were put to death by lethal injection, but it was call something else I believe it was along the lines of the celebration of that person?s life. Which means the concept of reality depends on one?s perspective and since we are all unique in our own ways, our perspectives are never the same. This means our realities are never the same either; however, there are those in societies who have this skill of the forked tongue in which they find ways to make all those different individuals think the same. There are many instances of where this happens at any given moment in any given day, but the most popular versions are government, religion, law and science. It is in those three groups in which there myriad of branches in each group and in those branches there are even more. Of course, the interesting part to all this is that they all intertwined based on that person?s agenda and sadly everyone has one of those because it is there that they determine their reality and where he or she goes within that reality.

  17. As I know IE9 fully supports HTML5 tests? and Chrome is second? I tried Chrome with HTML5 tests, so I would like to know what are the results with IE9 an other browsers running this test?
    http://html5test.com/

As I read, it seems that IE9 beats Chrome, so you could also do a list with the test results here like you did with Acid3, also it is strange that IE9 doesn't pass Acid3 as they said it will pass it and etc.

It seems that Microsoft wants the browser market back and are working on it, due to for a lot of years IE6 sucked :D due to that fact, I still don't use IE8 even though it got better, I still use Opera and Chrome and tend to use it due to the features and capabilities it offers. :)

I had completely forgot about that website to test out HTML 5 compatibility and so after running the tests on all the browsers, even IE7 and 8 Here are the results.

    96+3 = IE927 = IE8
    27 = IE7
    159+7 = Opera
    207+7 Safari
    139+4 FF 3.6
    222+10 = Chrome
    204+9 FF4b5

Clearly Chrome dominates in the HTML 5 support and from the works of it, Microsoft has a lot a work to do and I mean a lot of work to do. However, I will say they have improved a lot since IE8 in terms of support but one would think they be in the high 100s. Granted HTML5 is a work in progress and odds are by the time it is fully accepted in 2025 (UG), IE 15 will be out and I will have gone blind. Of course, I am a bit surprise with Firefox 4, I thought it would be a bit higher then that but compared to 3 it is better.

Well IE6 was the best browser for its time, but when IE7 and IE8 came out, well lets just say everyone started switching, hopefully with IE9 people will start to flock back. As for the acid test score, they never passed it, they showed off that it was in the 90s and I do believe it was 90/100 when they first showed some screens.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/products/internet-explorer
This is the website that provides Internet Explorer 9 Beta.

It seems nice to get some explanation of the tests in the opening post. The posted results are not clear.

It seems Microsoft decided to copy Google. Internet Explorer 9 Beta looks a lot like Chrome. The first impression is that Internet Explorer 9 Beta is much faster compared to Internet Explorer 8.

Actually this represents the policy of Microsoft. New programs and new ways that work well are copied by Microsoft. Like the user interface of the operating program of Apple. And Internet Explorer can be considered to be a copy of Netscapce.

If you look at all the browsers, there is nothing original in them, it is mostly tweaks in the engine that separate the browsers.

  18. Well, Internet explorer 9 beta is out and I have to say looks wise I am impressed. Microsoft went the route of Chrome and gave it a minimalist browser look and that is a big plus. Also from a quick overview, it would seem they added their own Developer tools as well, shocking, but other then that it looks a lot better and it would seem HTML5 support is there as I have a couple of HTML5 based websites on my computer and I have to say I am impressed with it as well.

Now for the fun part, the acid tests, I made sure all the browsers were current and here are my results.

    Firefox 3.6.9

    Passed 1 and 2

    Acid 3 91/100

    Firefox 4b5

    Passed 1 and 2

    92/100

    IE9 Beta

    Passed 1 and 2

    Acid 3 93/100

    Chrome 7.0.503.0

    Passed 1 and 2

    100/100

    Opera 10.62

    Passed 1 and 2

    100/100

    Safari 5.0.2

    Passed 1 and 2

    100/100

I have to say I am borderline shocked and impressed with IE9 results and if memory serves me correctly IE8 failed horribly at an abysmal 22 out of a 100. So this is huge for Microsoft to score that high, especially in beta. Hopefully they this number as well and try to see if they can bring up to 100 and start bringing back some of its glory it has lost since IE7 and IE8.
