  2. How to make money online fast and easy?

    Not possible for 99% of online users. Making money online is very possible for anyone with any skill set however it is almost never quick and definitely not easy in the beginning.

    My suggestion is to start an informational web site about a topic that you are very interested in. If you like for example Golf then make a website that provides information on great golfing locations, pro golf tour news, new golf equipment advances, and anything else golf related. Since it is a subject you are genuinely interested in, you will fill the site with good and unique information quickly. The trick is to make your information unique. Don't copy and paste from other sites as this will hurt your search rankings and people won't view your site as a source of information. Instead they will see it as a repository of info from other places.

    Keeping your articles and info unique will bring people back to your website in the future to see what you are talking about now. This is a slow process and it may take months or even years to obtain a loyal following. Once a loyal following is established, place non intrusive advertisements throughout your site and finally you can start making a decent income from the site.

    In the beginning you may get discouraged because not many people are visiting your site. Don't give up! Keep adding unique content to your site as often as possible even when it seems pointless. Eventually you will write something on a topic that is almost untouched by other websites and BOOM search engine traffic suddenly floods in seemingly out of nowhere. This has happened to me so I know it can happen to you too.

    Making money online does take time. It also takes a great deal of effort and the ability to push ahead even when things seem pointless. Just be careful not to invest large sums of money into your website thinking it will fast track your success. This is usually not the case. Hard work and unique content will do far more for you than a $1000 advertising campaign since once the advertising campaign ends, you are back to square one.

  3. i don't know why your scared to death. can you give me reasons why this scares you to death? do you know something i don't(which is very little)? doesn't sound like anyone's sovernties or liberties are being compromised. i could be mistaken. it's just way too early for me to even give an opinion....

    I am not exactly sure how to explain why this scares me. It has alot to do with mistrust of the American government I guess. You see here in Canada our government is very close with the American government but the Canadian people as a whole seem to distrust the American government. Why do Canadians distrust the American government? Well there are many reasons for this. For example going back quite a while to the first implementation of NAFTA. The NAFTA agreement was supposed to benefit Canadians, Americans, and Mexicans equally by providing a means for companies of all 3 countries to do business across borders with reduced regulations and trade restrictions thus providing increased profits. This seemed like a good idea to everyone at first. The truth however is that due to American economic dominance in North America, the bulk of benefits went to the US. As a matter of fact the NAFTA agreement caused price increases here in Canada for gas, oil, fresh produce, electronics, and many other consumer goods we cannot go without. The opposite effect occurred in the US directly following the agreement.

    Another example of why Canadians mistrust the American government is the attack on Iraq under the false flag of the threat of weapons of mass destruction. As we all now know there were no WOMD in Iraq and the US is now basically occupying Iraq and have seized control of that oil market in the process. This is a big one for us here in Canada and even our own military leaders have criticized the American government for this.

    As for civil liberties being compromised, well in the US over the past 10 years since 9/11, many of the American people's civil liberties have been trampled in the name of increased security. The Patriot Act for example allows US governmental agents to literally strip an American citizen of his rights if they feel that the person may be involved in terrorist activity. Although I have no love for terrorists, this opens the door for these agents to do as they please with total disregard of the American people's rights. All that is required is for them to simply state that they believed this person to have been connected to a terror cell. And worse these agents answer to no one!

    Canada has the unique perspective of being closely tied to the US while still remaining an outside observer. We watch the same news programs and TV stations but also have our own news programs and TV stations. This gives us the opportunity to see what the American media is saying about certain events, while also seeing a second opinion of sorts. In most cases our media in Canada has a totally different perspective on events and as a result causes us to form our own opinions. We wonder who is telling the truth? Everyone knows that much of what we see on TV is designed to promote support for certain political agendas. Oh and by the way, the US senate usually deals with international trade treaties and regulatory alignment. In this case, the senate was not even involved!

    By making Canadian and American laws more "compatible" we are basically taking the first steps toward the US takeover of Canada at least in my opinion. Mexico was not included in this agreement and again that raises concerns about the real motives here. Also the lack of media coverage on the subject scares me. Why would such a historic agreement between our countries be so secretive? Why is it that most people don't even know about this even though it happened 2 months ago? It is obvious to me that there is a reason why the media has not spoken much about this, they were probably asked not to discuss it by the powers that be. The American people are close to almost outright rebellion, the Canadian people are tired of being pushed around by big brother USA, this information would not help either of those situations so it was not shared by many media outlets in Canada or the US.

    If you would like some links to more info on the subject here are a few. Some of the sites see this in a good light while others don't but seeing both sides of the picture might help you form your own opinion on this.

  4. I'm not sure who all has heard about this as it seems to be almost untouched by mainstream media, but Canada and the US signed an agreement on Feb. 4, 2011 to form the Regulatory Cooperation Council or RCC. This council has been formed to promote cooperation between US and Canadian policy makers to form "compatible" regulations on border law, economic law and even security and military regulations.This council has been given very strong political backing by both nations and in my opinion looks like the first step in the future formation of a North American Union similar to the European Union. Both President Obama and Prime Minister Harper have denied that this agreement will affect the sovereignty of either nation however I do not understand how making Canadian and American regulations "compatible" will do anything other that help to integrate both countries into some form of united government.This agreement will supposedly improve economic growth in both countries and most of all create a more secure North American continent. Makes me think of this famous quote..."They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security."-Benjamin FranklinTry googling about the RCC and let me know what you all think. It scares the crap out of me! :unsure:

  5. Ah yes thank you for the clarifications. I didn't understand correctly what you were asking but I believe I do now.Your router is not one of the routers I was mentioning. As far as I can tell anyway lol.Your router appearing in the list of connected devices in your windows network is not unusual and should not pose any security risks or problems. As for the issues you are experiencing regarding the FTP timeouts, your router may be blocking ports 20 and 21. Ports 20 and 21 are the ports typically used for the FTP protocol.Log into your router administration control panel (usually done by typing 192.168.1.1 into your browser address bar) and check to see if ports 20 and 21 are open or blocked. If blocked simply unblock them and issues should be gone. If ports 20 and 21 are not blocked then perhaps it is an issue with the FTP client or server that you are using.Let me know how things work out and I would be glad to help further if it is needed. :)

  6. i did connect and set up the new router, surprisingly had a bit of trouble making it work, but what I see now is that, in my Network list, the name O2 (which is the name of my ISP) appears.

    When you say in your network list do you mean the list of available wireless networks in your area? Is your ISP Orange in europe? Also is your wifi router a speedtouch or thompson? If you are with Orange and using a speedtouch or thompson router you need to change your network name known as SSID. Not all of these routers allow you to do this and if yours doesn't then contact your ISP and demand a different router.

    The routers mentioned have a very bad security flaw that will allow almost anyone access to your internet connection. Check the following website which explains just how easy it is for someone to hack one of these routers and hijack your internet.

    http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

    If your router will allow you to change the default SSID to one of your choosing then you will have no worries once you change the default SSID. It wouldn't be a bad idea to change your encryption key or password also in case someone has already breached your network.

  7. First question, are all the networked machines using the same OS? All windows 7 or mix and match of win7, winvista, XP or others?Second, when using the network setup wizard, did you create a network setup wizard disk or usb stick? If you didn't use a disk or usb stick to setup the network wizard there may have been slight configuration differences due to service packs or updates present on one machine but not another.As for win7 I'm not too sure but I do know that in vista user access control sometimes caused network sharing problems. Try disabling user access control in your control panel and see if that helps. Do this on the machine that seems to have connection issues.Hope this helps :)

  8. Great tips for getting a website up quickly.I just wanted to mention that although it is possible to have a website up and running in a single day, it is very unlikely that you will have traffic on day one unless you spend a significant amount of money on advertising.Building the web site is actually the easy part. Marketing your web site is probably going to take weeks, months, even years depending on budget and time investment. This is where most web sites fail. Most new web site owners are very excited to have completed designing their web site, and think it will get easier from here. The truth is that even if your web site has amazingly informative and well written content, it will take considerable effort and time to get visitors to see it. See this thread where you will find an amazing set of tips and tricks to get your web site known and even make money from it.The post was written by a Xisto member named Xarex click the link to see the thread.http://forums.xisto.com/topic/70228-what-is-the-best-affiliate-program-or-the-best-way-to-advertise/page-2#entry506417

  9. haha there you go with the rep thing. your back! you weren't too concerned when nate called you a him instead of a her though :)well, this is off topic but more interesting to me than an email for a resume. maybe it's a sign that you should be around more often huh? just a thought...

    Lol I'm sorry I did not mean to insult Web_designer. I am sorry though that I did make that mistake in a post yesterday and Anwiii was sure to let me know via PM :P

    Hope I didn't offend as it was not my intention.

    Ok now onto the OP question. Did you know that the domain extension .com is normally used by companies? There is also a domain extension you can get that is .name. The .name extension is designed for exactly the purpose that you are using your firstname.com domain for.

    I understand you already own your firstname.com so this info is not really helpful but I thought it might be an interesting piece of info for you.

    The email address firstname@firstname.com is what I would probably choose myself but really any email address that does not include silly names or nicknames will be fine in my opinion.

  10. I have returned to Xisto recently however I was a Xisto member for a long time. (Wish I could remember my old login info :( )I have noticed that these forums are not very active anymore but I am trying to post as much helpful info as I can as responses to questions or new topics about current news and such. I figure that if we all keep adding new content here and treat our fellow posters with respect, we will be seeing more activity soon. :)I try to ask others for more info or updates on progress when answering questions and I also ask for opinions on my own topics to try and help get more posts and mycents flowing.I don't think I'm a pain, and I'm never rude so I think I'm a gain. :)

  11. Hi everyone. I'm a student of electrical and electronic engineering. Has a little knowledge of about programming and designing web page. For a project i need to learn how to create an FTP server web page using a software which can be used to download and upload files between shared computers using LAN. Is there any possibility that i can do that with little knowledge about designing web page?

    Hello and welcome to Xisto!

    Just to clarify, you are trying to move files back and forth between computers connected on a local area network correct? If this is the case then no web page or FTP is needed. Windows has built in functionality to provide sharing of files between computers on a LAN. To set this up simply run the networking wizard in windows on each of the systems that need access. Then after the network is made you can simply map a network drive on each system on the network to a shared folder or drive somewhere on your network. This will allow the movement of files in and out of this folder to and from any of the systems on your LAN.

    For detailed instructions on how to set this up try googling for "Windows setting up network drives". This should give you a good starting point. Don't worry the process is not very complicated and could be set up in a very short time span.

    Let us know how it all works out for you and if you need more info. :)

  12. It is now May 6th and as I had expected Sony has not yet resumed online services. In fact the problems may be getting worse. Since the SOE network was taken offline on May 2nd, I have been visiting a website hosted by SOE that was providing occasional updates on the situation. The web address is in my previous post.Today I visited this website to see if any progress has been made by Sony and to see if further information has been released. I was surprised to see that now even this website has now been taken down. It has been reported by various sources that the attack on Sony servers was enabled by the fact that Sony was using an outdated version of the Apache web server that has known vulnerabilities. It should be common sense in my mind that this would be the first change needed when updating the security systems of the networks they run. Well I guess that common sense is not at all common because today when visiting the website I just mentioned, the site is not displaying and a 503 Service Unavailable error is displayed. Guess what? The error on this page displays the apache server version. The version displayed is version 2.2.3. For those who are not up on apache versions, the 2.2.3 version was released in July 2006! All I can say is WOW do they have monkeys running the show or what?Oh and by the way, if Sony has such problems hiring competent network admins, I'll gladly take the job! I at least know how to encrypt database entries and update server software! :P

  13. A good rule of thumb to follow to prevent falling into any phishing scam is to check the full header of any email you receive before ever clicking a link you got inside an email. Even if you are expecting an email from a certain web site, you should check the headers before clicking links. Some of the phishing scams out there literally watch the outgoing mail of a certain web site and try to duplicate the message that was sent to you by the genuine web site, then insert their own links into a carbon copy of the original mail and hope you click on the one they sent first. Ebay and Paypal are two domains you should be very careful about. They are both large reputable companies but that is also why phishing scammers love to pretend to be them!I learned all this the hard way. I once fell for a Paypal phishing email. I entered my username and password on the fake Paypal site, and my account and funds inside got stolen. Paypal eventually opened a new Payapl account for me but the funds were lost forever ($200+) and it was over 5 months before I was able to use paypal again.

  14. First I should mention that photoshop is often used as a tool to create a nice looking design for a webpage however it not used to create the links or interactivity of your website.What you could do is use the knife tool in photoshop to cut the design into smaller parts (buttons, logo, text areas and other sections of your site.) Once you have used the knife tool to cut the image into the desired pieces you can export that to HTML. This will create a basic HTML template from your image.Since it seems you don't have much experience with web design, I suggest you try a WYSIWYG(what you see is what you get) page editor. Try downloading a trial version of Dreamweaver to get the feel for it.Dreamweaver can insert links and images and help you set up your website without knowing how to write HTML code. All you will need to do is load the HTML file that you exported from photoshop into dreamweaver, then right click on the button you wish to link to the next page, then click "hyperlink" in the menu that is shown. Enter the web address of the page you want to link to and click ok. Save your page. The link should now be made and all you have to do is upload your pages to your website to test and make sure it is working.If you give this a shot I'm sure you will catch on pretty quick. If you still can't get it figured, send me a PM here on Xisto and I'll see if I can help you out. :)

  15. That was a great response Web_designer!

    I just thought it might be useful to Matt also if we showed him how to use an image as a submit button.

    In Web_designer's example he showed you how to create a standard submit button like this:

    <input type="submit" value="Send">

    To use your own custom image as the submit button, you could try the following:

    <input type="image" src="yourimage.gif" alt="Submit button">

    Replace yourimage.gif with the path to the image you would like to use on your server. Also make sure the alt tag contains text that describes the use of the button so that users who have image loading turned off in their browser can still tell that this is the submit button for the form. ;)

  16. First does the system have a floppy drive or a cd/dvd drive? If it does, simply remove all hard drives except the one you want to format. The one that you are going to format should be hooked up as primary master for now. Now if your computer has a floppy disk drive, use an old msdos or windows95/98/me floppy boot disk to boot the computer. If you don't have a floppy boot disk, you can download one at http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm. I suggest the windows ME OEM boot disk. Scroll to bottom of the page for instructions on making the boot disk. You can also do this for making a boot CD if you do not have a floppy disk drive.Once you have your boot disk, put it into the floppy or CD drive and boot up the computer with only the HDD installed that you want to format. Once the boot process has finished, you will be looking at a DOS screen with an A:\ prompt. Type format c: and follow the on screen prompts. Once the format is complete you may remove the boot disk, power down the computer, re-install the other hard disks and all should be well.This will format the drive in the FAT32 file system however if you want if formatted in NTFS simply format it again once you are in windows. You shouldn't have any issues formatting the drive in windows now since it is not running windows from this drive any more. Thats it! :)

  17. When are the lines visible? Is it only when you are logged into windows or does it also happen during the boot process?If the lines only show themselves while in windows, I recommend you roll back your display driver or uninstall it, then install the latest driver version available for the video hardware in your laptop. Also lines like this have occurred to me after installing an older version of direct x than was installed before.(win7 comes with direct x 11) I have done this by accident while installing an older video game. If you have installed video games recently you may want to check that your direct x version hasn't changed or reverted. If it has, uninstall and re-install with the latest version. If those things don't help, and especially if the lines are present during the boot process, your video hardware in the laptop is malfunctioning. If the lines are visible all the time and never change color at all then I suggest you try to find a replacement screen as that is likely the problem. If the lines are always visible but sometimes move or change color, it is likely the video chipset inside the laptop or the video ram. Try searching the web for a video memory testing application to see if the video ram is the problem.If the hardware itself is the problem be very careful if you decide to repair it your self. I suggest taking it to a certified technician who has tools to safely open and work on the laptop. They can be very tricky to disassemble and reassemble without the proper tools. You could void your warranty also by doing this your self.Hope this helps :)

  18. Welcome to Xisto! This is a great place to get started with your first website. These forums have tons of information that can help you get started and if there is anything you can't find or are just curious about, just ask and I am very sure that someone will know the answer or show you where to look. :)If you are just getting started in the world of trying to make money on the internet, let me just give one piece of advice. Don't trust 99% of the people on the internet that say they can make you rich! Nine out of ten times they will take your money and leave you with nothing. Just some friendly advice from someone who learned this the hard way. ;)

  19. For those of you who have not heard, the Sony playstation network was breached by hackers on April 16th 2011. Sony did not recognize this breach right away and 77 million users had their personal information including name, address, phone numbers, and even credit card numbers stolen from Sony servers. Sony did not release this information to its users until a sudden shutdown of playstation network servers nearly a week after the initial security breach. Many of these clients are now scrambling to cancel credit cards and set up identity theft monitoring to protect themselves from the unknown data thieves. Also many clients are outraged that Sony failed to notify them of the security breach until nearly a week after the incident. This comes at a terrible time for Sony as their home country is still dealing with a massive ecological disaster resulting from the recent nuclear power accident. Many of Sony's employees in Japan are currently under an already enormous amount of stress due to the nuclear accident, and now have to deal with the threat of unknown hackers attempting to cripple the company. To make matters worse, on May 2nd 2011, Sony Online Entertainment also suddenly shut down all online operations. A press release from Sony Online Entertainment on May 3rd explains that the attack on the playstation network also opened the door to allow access to the Sony Online Entertainment network. This adds an additional 25 million clients that have had their personal information and credit card info stolen. In total 102 million Sony clients have been affected. On April 30th Sony announced that it expected to resume services on the playstation network by Friday May the 6th, however due to the May 2nd closure of yet another Sony owned and run network, I think that Sony may decide to wait past May 6th to resume services.I myself am one of the 102 million clients that has had my personal information and credit card info stolen. I have reported the issue to my credit card company and they are monitoring my account for suspicious activity. The problem is this, what if the data thieves hold onto the data for an extended period of time and use my personal info down the road a few years to steal my identity or ruin my credit? Sony has lost all credibility as a trustworthy online vendor at least in my eyes. I will worry for years now that someone out there could be destroying my credit or pretending to be me. Sony can't fix that, they can't patch it, its too late.The press release of May 3rd can be found at http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ do you think Sony should do about this?

  20. IE is an inbuilt browser with the MS Windows, so I am not sure if you can remove IE completely. You can try a different browser, which wont harm your web browsing experience.

    It is true that removing IE from your windows OS cannot be done without causing other problems within the OS itself. IE shares many system files that are needed by the OS. If you were to remove IE completely you also will be removing important DLL files which windows still needs for other tasks. Also when removing IE you may break compatibility with some 3rd party applications that call IE directly as part of the application's functionality.(rather than launching default browser) In these cases your computer could become unstable or freeze due to the application waiting for a response from IE and never getting one. As has already been mentioned, setting Firefox as your default browser is a far better solution. You can easily remove any icons on your desktop and in your start menu to make IE look like it is gone, but having it there will save you a ton of hassle down the road.

    Using nLite or similar will work if you for some unknown reason you NEED to rid your system of IE, however the 3rd party applications that call IE directly will still crash or freeze.

    One other option could be to rid yourself of windows all together. Try one of the many free linux distros out there. This option may seem crazy but to be honest I have found that users who have a hate for Microsoft products all end up with linux eventually anyway. Maybe now would be a good time to learn linux. If you decide to try this route, I suggest Kubuntu as your linux choice. Kubuntu is built on Ubuntu and offers a very user friendly and easy to learn desktop. Just google for Kubuntu and see if you might like it! :)

  21. Hello.

    I just spent some time trying to google the proper driver for your machine. I am assuming according to the manufacturer specs for the Evo N800c that your sound hardware is an ADI Soundmax device. This device does not seem to currently have a device driver written for the linux OS. There may still be other options open to you however. Some generic linux drivers have been written to give at least basic functionality to most sound devices under a linux OS.

    Check out this link where some of the generic drivers are available. http://www.linux-drivers.org/audio.html

    If you decide to try one of these drivers be sure to read the instructions carefully as linux driver setup is somewhat more complicated than windows driver set up. Hope this gets it working for you :)

  22. Ok I am only a novice php programmer however I think I have a solution that can work for you.

    When setting up your DB connection settings (sometimes done in a file such as config.php or similar)you will have something like the following:

    $user=username;$pass=password;$host=localhost;$db=databasename;

    ok for this solution add additional variables for connecting to a second DB something like this:

    $db1user=username; // user for DB 1$db2user=username2; // user for DB 2$db1pass=password; // password for DB 1$db2pass=password2; // password for DB 2$host=localhost; // since both databases are on the same server this value will work for both$db1=databasename; // name of DB 1db2=databasename2 // name of DB 2

    When you fill in the fields of your client information form and click on submit, your script most likely passes the information you entered into your form to the next php page which has a mysql query that will enter the information into the DB. The query should look something similar to the following:

    $query=("INSERT INTO table values");$mysql_query=$query;

    Now when the information is passed to the page that houses this query, you can code a second submit button on this page. Label the button to say something like "add to subscribers". Now on this page you already have all the information from the form stored into $_POST or $_GET variables, you can use the data in the $_POST or $_GET variables to populate a second form on this page with the hidden attribute so the form will remain invisible yet still have the data to pass again and perform our second query which will add info to the second database. On the PHP page that this second submit button takes you to, remember to use the DB connection settings of the second DB and perform the same type of query as before but this time it adds to the other DB instead.

    I can invision this configuration in my head quite clearly but explaining it seems to be more difficult. I hope I have explained this well enough for you to understand the basic concept of how to I might approach this. Hmmm... if you don't follow, maybe I'll write a sample script for an example and share it here. :)
