A nice theme is a good start Pick a nice theme that suits your needs as a start. Some WordPress themes are simple and everything is in place, you get what you see and ready to post. I guess that's why you complain their "blog lookings". If you search carefully, you will find some themes are more flexible for re-design, or maybe we should say "customizing", depends on how much you would change. Get warmed up Try to play around several themes, you will start to get some basic idea on how wordpress works. As pyost said, better not to attack WordPress core, but there are a lot you can do without diving into the core. Choose the one suits your needs best If you have some experience on php codes, html and css, you can just browse through all the thems and pick the one you feel good, then, cusomize it as you wish; If you are not familiar to those stuffs, you can choose a theme comes with more theme options. Those thmes provide very detailed Option page, you can set your blog structures and styles without any coding experience. For example, Atahualpa is the most popular theme in the line of theme options--around 263 choices; sufussion is in the same category but more flexiable, its options available is not less than Atahualpa but takes a bit of time to read through the option page; hybrid is another great theme for heavy customizing with rich theme options. Remove stuffs you don't want The meta and blogroll are in widget area. Widgets are very convinient tools that comes with theme you choose, and after active the theme, you can go Darshboard / Apperence / Widget to add or remove widgets. After you remove the widgets, you will see your sidebar area is nearly empty, it's up to you to put whatever else there. As for the post page you dislike-- you can do it this way: 1. Go to Dashboard / Pages , create a new page, name is whatever title you like, let's say "Greatest Shop"; 2. Create another page, let's say... "Company News" For the 2 pages, uncheck the "Allow comments", uncheck the "Allow pinback, trackback"; 3. Go to Dashboard / Settings / Reading , Front Page displays, choose "A Static Page", then, choose "Greatest Shop" as front page, and "Company News" as post page; Then, save changes. Now, go to view your site, the front page is empty, no post. This is the very first step for CMS front page. If you want completely hide the posting page, you can go to your themes's menu setting, remove the "Company News" from the menu list, and you will see no post showing up on your site unless you manually type in url "mydomain.com/company-news" Now your site is empty, it's up to you to create... The template Template is the structure of the page. Most of the thems provides more than several template. With the option rich themes, you might find several template that best suit your idea. If that's not enough, you will need to create your own. The style You can use Firefox extension "Firebug" to observe your theme's css, then, change the css to your like. for example, if the theme shows in Firebug <div id="pagetitle"> bla bla</div>, you can change it in your style.css, something like this: #pagetitle {display:none} , then, your page title become invisible. The Child theme Better create a child theme to do all the editing. Because, once the theme updated, all your cusomizing job will be lost if you edit the original theme. The suggestions above just meant to providing a starting point for a CMS site. Hope it helps

Most Reliable Dns Host You Recommend Free DNS hosting
imjjss replied to imjjss's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Currently I am on another host. The DNS hosting started because I registered domain before found the website host. The domain registering require DNS nameserver, so I found DNS Park to host it before start building website. That's how it started.Later, I heard people saying it's better host DNS outside of web server. Because when web server goes down, as long as DNS server is still available, earch engines will not abandon the domain. So, I continue have the DNS hosted outside of web server. -
The Best Website That Pays Upfront
imjjss replied to Ahsaniqbalkmc's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Very interesting reading. I would also add my thoughts.I think, for working at home full time, we have to consider multi lines of business for 2 reasons. On one side, as they all say- never put all your eggs in one basket. As you said, English is not your primary language. So, your risk is bigger than those natives. Competition might be more fiercy because nowadays the U.S. economic is not in great shape, more people lost jobs, they will join you-- it's just an example, we never know what's the next play. So, I would say-try to find something else to work on while earning on articles. On the other side, earning on articles is not stable especially when you are not skilled in English. Even for skilled writters, there are months earn more and there are months earn less. So, if you build one or two more buiness generating some extra earning, they will compensate each other and make a stable situation in total.By the way, building your own website has more potential in long term. -
On free hosting, the max database space is normally around 50MB. I have no idea how this 50MB works. I plan my website to host a community and run multi services. Is 50 MB enough? If 50MB not enough, where I can get a reliable database free hosting service? By the way, I'm not a tech person. I know nothing about database stuffs, but I am a fast learner-- able to learn basical things. A bit complicated is ok, but not able to dive into tech issues too deep. So, what would you recommend?

How To Tell It's Astahost Or Trap17 about Astahosts free hosting plan
imjjss replied to imjjss's topic in General Discussion
on the "My Products and Services", it shows "Linux PHP-MySQL Hosting - Logic Plan - $1.95 / mo. - FREE SETUP!" with my domain, and price, billing cycle, next due. It doesn't mention the host.Maybe because when sign up I choosed to use my existing domain so that I don't have additional information about the host? -
So, If I have multi blogs installed as subdirectory, and their contents are not really related, then, it's not good for SEO , right?

I'm seeking for a WordPress plugin for creating and managing forms for CMS purpose. I figured out Cforms II and Contact Form 7 are the 2 most popular form plugins, but still can't decide which one to try, coz it takes a lot of learning curve to try those functions. Is any of you have tried them, please provide your opinion, thanks!

I banned their IP address in cpanel immedietely. they are from 2 IP addresses. After banned IP, new ones keep coming from other IP addresses, so I had to shut down "signup" and "create blogs" option. Thanks for the capcha suggestion, I added a "Hummanity" secrurity question and answer on register page. Now the robots stopped coming. But I'm thinking-- there are lots of robots keep trying to register everyday. It should comsume a lot of bandwidth or CPU resources on hosting side. That might make my blog slow down. Hope this is not true?

yesterday, I got 20 spammers registered on my site and each of them created a sub-blog. I deleted them, today, I got another 20 spammers and 20 new created sub-blogs. I have Akismet and Badbehavior plugin working on my Wordpress blog, those spammers didn't get caught. What else I should do to block spammer registering?

I am nearly finishing my blog design. I thought nobody knew my blog. But from the traffice chart, I see there are already a few visitors. I don't know how they find my site. When install WordPress, there's an option of "make your blog published to the world" (I don't remember the exactly words). Does it mean Wordpress automatically submit my blog to search engines already? Do I still need to submit my blog again?

I have multi forms on my blog. For each form, I added a convert button to convert text in textarea before submit button. So, there are 3 jobs-- get textarea value, calculate text, replace old text with new text. The calculation is done by myfunction(), the button is coded like this: <a onclick="myfunction()" class="button" href="java script:void(0)">Convert</a> When click, nothing happend. I consulted the progammer of the function, he said he couldn't make it work in his blog posts either. The only way he can make it work is to set a seperate blog with only one page to display this convert tool-- that's where I found this tool.Is it because WordPress block javascript inputing in posts? or any idea to solve the problem?Regards

This is my first success in trying to post. When I start a new topic, the posting form loaded with cursor flash a second on this content area. After Side Panel loaded, clicking this content area can't get cursor focuz in it. Anybody hit the same problem? What can I do to solve this? I make this post by chance, or by Toggle Side Panel, I don't know. Many times I tried Toggle Side Panel, it didn't work, but this time it works.
